Fox is Planning a “Weaver” Origin Spin-off
This was a surprising bit of news I received from a Fox representative. Apparently, Fox is so sure the first movie will be successful that they’re already planning a Weaver (Luis Arretia) television spin-off.
“The anime was pretty good, but it wasn’t great. Weaver, a new character made by our marketing team, is a different kind of super hero. When we set out to create this new character, we made it our top priority to make a character that we felt everyone would be able to relate to, and we think we’ve been very successful in that regard.”
“He’s a nerd, but he also has super strength. He’s not good with the ladies, but that all changes when he’s bitten by a radioactive dragon. I don’t want to give anything away, but he plays a huge part in the first movie, and maybe in the sequels as well. The first movie ends with a huge cliffhanger, but it’s a surprise that the fans will have to wait for, and we don’t think they’ll be disappointed. Oh, hell, I’ll tell you: Weaver is Goku’s father.
“Dragonball Origins: Weaver,” airs on the Fox television network May 4th, 2009. Fox also hinted at further projects with other movie-made characters.

I was hoping this was true. I really like the ideas for the movie characters, even moreso than the originals. They just have that mainstream feel where you can relate to them more. Let’s petition for a Weaver movie!
hahaha “radio active dragon” obviously aint true….especially the part where they say weaver is goku’s father……1. the whole spin off thing kinda dumb and 2. Bardock was goku’s father but nice try

At first I thought it was real until I read the part “he was bitten by a radioactive dragon…” thats when I realized this was Aprils fool.

Sounds good enough to me, but they wouldn’t go so far as change Bardock. Besides, Weaver is already known as some nerd in high school at the same time as Goku.

*never really liked it* I don’t normally watch tv anyways. But that would get me watching. Dragonball: Origins sounds like something that would be used to set up the story of the Namekian saga. Explaining how the saiyans lived and died.

That right there could cause the film to tank even if everything else turns out awesome. They don’t seem to know how “territorial” anime fans are.
Hell, cartoon fans in general. I’d like to see them try and “make up” a new thundercat or something. I’m already a little worried they’re going to turn dragonball into some high school drama. I hope for their sake they don’t try and make up a new character. They’re already on thin ice as it is.
I’m sorry but it’s really hard for me to see Emmy as Bulma.
I’m already going to have a hard enough time dealing with the fact that we won’t see Vegeta AND Sean won’t be Goku.
I know it would be a long shot for him to be Goku in the movie anyway but in my mind, he’s as close as it get’s to the real thing.

I think James will do a brilliant job though.

Stick to the anime/manga. It’s simple. Personally, I think they’ve already screwed up enough. Goku? In high school? H*** no. Oh, **** no. Alas, I suppose us fans will have to just take what we’ve got.
Sigh, why didn’t FOX just put Akira Toriyama in charge of the movie?
