Dragonball’s Producer Speaks (SPOILERS)

April 15th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

Tim Van Rellim, Dragonball’s executive producer, recently spoke to a Durango newspaper, where he reveals MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS on the film.

Tim Van Rellim reveals that Goku dies in the beginning of the second part of Dragonball

At least that’s what recently commented Tim Van Rellim, producer of Dragon Ball, in an exclusive chat in el Siglo of Durango, in which he spelled out precisely the death of the protagonist will be the beginning of the second part of the story, it it is also very likely to be recorded in Durango.

“Durango has been a phenomenal place to record. We had many sets and the truth never felt paparazzis or harassment of the press and elsewhere and in other productions. It is a very quiet place, we were treated very well, “he said.

The producer of the film confessed that three movies are scheduled for history, the second of which is in the process of planning. “It is not yet confirmed, but it is more than likely that the costs billed in this city will bring us back.”

Another source of production reported that the blue skies of Durango is another very important reason. “In New Zealand there are very similar skies, but the sets are infested with Power Rangers.”

“Dragon Ball was an experience. We are very happy to have held only time we plan. There were not many setbacks, as only surprises when we were recording in Mexiquillo, but those are go with the job. ”

AT END OF YEAR PREMIERE PRODUCTION OF THE SECOND PART

When asked how long until the second part begins, the producer said he hoped to resume his post at the end of this year.

PREMIERES: Summer or October?

“We hurried, and the premiere will [hopefully] be in the summer or October at the latest.” (?)

It is now expected, because the following projects come with more purpose, i.e. with more shooting interiors than field. I hope to be back over here, we tried really hard [and it's been] incredible. ”

The behavior of the members of the cast, the producer said that he noticed them excited, but that it would not deliver trials of its performance before the cameras.

“That it is up to the director. I saw them many times and could only say wonderful things from them, “he concluded.

The translation isn’t perfect, but we can see sequels are clearly in the works.

@Karai: It just means they haven’t decided what exact date to delay it, if at all.

@Adam: Yeah, but if the theater is told as soon as possible, they’ll start moving things around just so they can get Dragon Ball in. If the date is changed after they did all that work, the theaters will have to push everything they did back and they’ll be pissed. 20th Century Fox won’t be liked by all theaters if that happens.

It’s clear that Karai doesn’t know what she’s talking about :)

She said 20th century Fox won’t be liked by the theaters lol, ha, ha, ha…. You got to be kidding me!! Fox is the one spending around 100,000,000 million making the movie. I say Fox needs to take there time. They just need to put the promotion out if they decide to put it out early. I still think Dragonball will be out 2009.

Mexico’s April Fool’s is in December. It can either be old information or new. Sean, I meant this summer or October. That’s what the bascially the producer said.

Fox still hasn’t confirmed with the theaters that the date has been moved. I wish Fox would catch there shit and fix everything already. As it is, someone might get an ulcer. lol

i just wanted to point out that goku did die when piccolo and him were facing off against raditz in the early part of the series. so goku could die at the beggining of the sequel if they’re planning to do one on the saiyan saga after they get done with king piccolo.

That doesnt look like a catfish to me t looks like an actual Namek O.O Could that be a CG-render of what Marster’s makeup should be like in the movie?O.o

    April 21st, 2008 at 22:30 | #33

i think it’s a good idea to have goku die because that gives the rest of the cast a reason to summon Shenron (and i think CGI Shenron would look absolutely amazing, and it’s not like they could do him any other way) and Piccolo will sommon the dragon in dragonball 1 probably because he wants immortality just like every other villain of the DB sagas.
Jeff the DBZ kid whiz has spoken.

  36. May 12th, 2008 at 20:35 | #36

    An explanaition for Goku’s death?:

He dies because Piccolo kills him and Raditz, which would be the beggining of the saiyan saga.

Less CGI more latex, blood, and fist:

I’m kind of sad this movie isn’t more of a really gory sort of cartoony b- movie like Nightmare on Elm Street meets Howard the Duck meets Terminator brought to life in a beautifull 2010 neo 80s 50s ultra heavy metal rubber action way.

In the recent set pictures from Durango, I was happy to see Bulma’s costume and especially her hair. The leather and the spandex in the photos so far kind of make me excited in 2 ways. The first it kind of reminds me of karate kid mixed with of course dragonball. The second I just like to see women in leather and spandex.

On the more realistic side the photos also kind of look like high school musical mixed with final destination. I KNOW this movie WILL become like a mix of the two with the sort of lets make CGI emotional with the video game morality zietgiest leftover from LOTR, Spiderman, Star Wars 1-3 and the recent foray of superhero films like superman. All of these aforementioned movies hugely iconic bearing a lot of hopes for moviegoers and all were, for the exception of a few scenes of crazy CGI action, exceptional let downs.

It would be awesome if they relied as heavily on live action stuff as they could and then just tinged it with CGI where they hadto to make it just realistic enough.

    AN IMAGE:

Lastly, the movie would start with an anthropomorphic dog in a trenchcoat. (Mcgrough? thief futuristic Mcrough P.I. from Dragonball) He would be examining a dragonball he found in sort of a first scene never happened James Bond type thing. He would be in a bar then King piccolo finds him and punches a gory ditch into his animatronic face then he’d fly wire fu style breaking glass across the futuristic bar in Satan city.

King Piccolo wouldn’t kill CGI people in sloppy mass production but a carefully coreographed mess of individual humans and antrhopomorphic animals one after another with hugely cartoony gory results with super flashy beams and punches resulting in nauseating latex flesh, and red syrup. Dragonball was more about the lowflying, gunslinging, spaceship running across the walls basic wire fu dynamics wich is why I think this movie would be so good if it were all just low tech with some CGI exhaggerations here and there.

    WHAT IF?:

That’s the dragonball that would certainly become a wierd cult movie but also engraving itself into atleast a niche, however small it may be. But the dragonball movie could be huge with a certain take achieving the likes of a sort of freaky mix between Batman karate kid and the wierd cartoony massive Hindu vedic like foray that is dragonball. This movie if done the right way could be as big as the Karate Kid series or dare I say the batman series. Our cultural DNA is too important to be throwing it away on CGI dollars for quick fixes.

But if all goes according to plan I would equate the viewing experienc of the new Dragonball movie to eating a bowl of ice cream.

here is a thought….I dont think any one wants to see this movie if it isent going to be as good as say….IRON MAN, or BATMAN. It even said something bout Freddy on ELM ST…..in its day that movie was ahead of its time with graphics and the story line….even though that is hard to say with a straight face. lol     If their isent a 100% garrentee that this movie is going to be a block buster hit “THEN DONT MAKE IT!”.  I don’t want to see cheesy wire flying…I want superman/matrix flying. They don’t have the budget?….THEN DON’T MAKE IT. Personaly I liked CGI effects when thier used right. I want some more actors I recognize then just Goku. They cant get more names on thier roster?….THEN DON’T MAKE IT. Who doesen’t want to see Weisly Snipes play piccholo????    My point is none of the fans of dragon ballz want to be dissapointed by this movie at all. Ever since I was a little boy I knew this anime had potential to out shine any special effects movie on the market. I don’t want a bunch of cheesy acting by a bunch of no named, talentless, crap on my dream actors in this movie that I personally have looked forward to for a long, long time. After all the dedication by us fans, we deserve alot better.    All I’m saying is that we want this movie to be nothing but great. We want a promise its going to be as good like, say batman or superman or final destination. Please for the love of god, if the movie isen’t going to be nothing but perfect and mindblowingly amazing THEN DONT MAKE IT. they need to keep in mind that those movies they decided to spit out in our e-mails were ALL BLOCK BUSTERS. pulling in hundreds of millions in just a few weeks. Is this DBZ movie going to be the same as these other movies, like death note or is it going to explode on the big screen??? give us a real answer. We deserve better then cheesy wire flying, and I think everyone would agree.

    @Maddog_killa23

Justin Chatwin is not the only big name actor doing this movie. They also have Chow Yun-Fat (Master Roshi/Turtle Hermit), Emmy Rossum (Bulma), Randall Duk Kim (Grandpa Gohan), as well as Ernie Hudson(Master Mutaito(Roshi’s Sensei)). This film has a pretty big budget approx. $100,000,000 and from production pictures I’ve seen they plan on using CGI for a lot more things than you might think. As for Wesley Snipes as Piccolo I personally don’t see that working at all he doesn’t have the right look, mind you I believe they might have found someone better than James Masters (From Buffy The Vampire Slayer).

As for the release date it’s clearly labeled on many websites(including highly credible ones) as April 8th, 2009. My thoughts on the “summer or October” release is for Dragonball Z. Also about the whole protagonist dying off it’s Goku if you have ever seen the series you would know that he dies in Episode 4 while pinning Raditz so Piccolo can get a clear shot with his ‘Special Beam Cannon’. That would not be a dissapointment to me in any way as there would be no other way for him to learn both Kaoken and Spirit Bomb techniques he learns from King Kai. Both of which are very much essential to keep true to the anime story line(Saiya-jin Saga, Frieza Saga, and Buu Sagas). I also hope just to do justice to the series that they will do more than 3 movies because in 3 movies theres only so much that can be covered (e.g. King Piccolo Saga, Saiya-jin Saga, and Frieza Saga) which wouldn’t even cover HALF the series. Figure 291 Episodes (276 released in US other 15 supposedly coming out in Uncut Season Boxsets) and the Frieza Saga ends with Episode 91 – Namek’s Explosion – Goku’s End. My only irk with this movie is that it would seem Krillin is not included he may seem like a needless character to some but he’s essential to the story who else would Goku train with at Master Roshi’s? How else would he get off the Spirit Bomb that annihilates Vegeta? And How else would he become enraged enough to become a Super Saiya-jin? They even included Yamcha who’s only role really was as the desert bandit which to my knowledge they skip completely over that part of the series.
