Dragonball on Mexican TV

April 16th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

Dragonball was recently discussed on a Mexican TV show. It’s all in Spanish, but we’ve got a translation below.

Translation after the jump.

Here is a rough translation from craigdbfan:

The guy with the mustache talks about how he saw them filming a couple of scenes and saw the costumes and is also willing to say that around 70-80% of the film will be done in post-production (going to be heavy on special effects). He then states because of the fact they haven’t seen the finished product they’re not really sure what to make of the film. He states that there was a fan on the set who had many questions and one of his questions was when exactly does this take place within the Dragonball mythos. The man who is being interviewed then reveals that this takes place during the end of Dragonball and during the beginning of Dragonball Z ( Giving a reason as to why Goku is 18). He also talks about how 20th Century Fox didn’t ( and still doesn’t) want to release the least bit of information regarding the plot. He states that when he wanted to ask a question they would tell him to quiet down and not ask about anything about the film that would reveal to much. This is important he states that they might give a prologue during the beginning of the film showing Goku as a child he then says this is all speculation of course because 20th Century Fox wouldn’t release any information regarding the plot.

Nice even if the plot sucks we’ll still have some awesome visual effects. But still I hope the story is good.

Holyshit finally some news! But why can’t we get something like this in America? Damn Fox! why so serious?

Something just occured to me, Adam you said you didn’t think this would be like 300 with all the visual effects. Looks you’ve been proven wrong, and where did you get this at?

    April 16th, 2008 at 21:17 | #4

    I found this on YouTube.

  5. April 16th, 2008 at 21:17 | #5

@Sean: You realize 300 was all green / blue screen right? Dragonball will be shot with lots of scenery in Mexico.

@Adam: Yeah I know. But still how can it be 70 – 80% all visual effects? That’s insane, but it seems it will take longer than most of us thought. You got what you wanted Corey, here we come April 8, 2009…

@Craig: I knew that *cough* :) No really I figured it was you, you’ve done a good job helping us with the info, thanks alot.

id prefer a decent story with hardly any cgi rather than tons of cgi nd bad story

And by the way I’m trying this new website that translates video’s to other languages? It’s very frustrating, complicated shit… at least that’s what the host says :)

Wow, 70-80 percent of cgi effects.. Hmm, that is alot, but that doesnt necessarily mean the story will be bad. After all, if they truly are goin to be faithful the series, (visually) that percentage is about right.
Think about it, the flying, lighting effects for them power blasts and especially the incredibly fast speed they would have to move during a fight scene, theres alotta shit that needs to be done.
Im just glad we got some news, so thx to Craig and Adam, u guyz rock :D

@Hunt: Who said it was a bad story to begin with? Unless your just assuming, like alot of oher’s.

    April 16th, 2008 at 22:29 | #14

80 percent cgi? god i hope this isnt going to be a no dialogue cgi slugfest.which isnt always bad but dragonball was pretty well written and i hope it is in the movie also. thanks for the vid craig and adam

  15. April 16th, 2008 at 22:40 | #15

@dk318: I think he was exaggerating.

  16. April 16th, 2008 at 22:47 | #16

Interesting how Fox is so secretive about this project. Like Marsters said, anyone can go to a video store and pick up a season of the show. Or at the very least find it online.

Such is the way of the movie world I suppose.

“The man who is being interviewed then reveals that this takes place during the end of Dragonball and during the beginning of Dragonball Z”

Does this mean the sequel will be the Saiyan saga???? Wow, this is great news!! Coooool did he just say 70-80% cgi will be done during the post production?? Yippppppppy!! Ok Now I understand why Fox is treating Dragonball like Area 51. They don’t want people to see the dead Fulum Assassins. We already had a glipse of them!! Why you think Fox request the pictures to be removed. No one believes that I actually saw a Fulum assassin. Im not crazy!! I saw them! You believe me Sean? Don’t you? Im not crazy!!

Ur crazy corey…. fullumn assasins??? HAHAHA< did u make that up in ur dreams. LOL
Oh sorry it took me a long while to respond, but corey, i think i did mention something about transformers having a teaser… but do u remember the teaser itself??? It was earth transforming into the words transformers then transforming into 7.4.7… I dont think i would want a teaser like that from dragonball, it doesnt give u a sense of anything, besides the date it comes out…

PS. I was kiddin about the fullum assasins, yeah i saw em too…..lol

I think this movie will be excellent, i find it VERY hard to believe otherwise especially making a movie based on a premade story.

That’s gonna be freakin sick when the trailer comes out, i want it to be a surprise but i want one very soon

(Main guy talking)-we wont know, like i was saying, we saw lots of sets and lots and the wardrobe design but im assuming that 70-80 percent of the movie will be in post production. Its clearly lots of special effects, so we didnt get a very clear view of how thats gonna turn out, now, im not a fan of dragon ball, for those that are there was a guy who went with us to the set visit who is a big fan of dragon ball , he would always be asking lots of questions like “well, which part of the mythology is the movie coming from?” even he didnt leave very convinced
you know how theres three parts to dragon ball?
    dragonball dragonballZ and dragonball gt.
so in this movie there basically taking part the end of dragon ball when goku grows up
and a little bit of the beginning of dragonballZ

(dude with long hair)-This kind of makes it easier for the filmakers because when adapting this anime to a live action film ,one of the problems is, how do we make this kid look like “dragonball”(goku) from the series so when you use him as an adult it takes away a lot of problems for the filmakers.

(Main guy)-they also didnt want to reveal too much to us about the movie/story
like its common now with these huge franchise movies
we’d ask a question like ” oh this is gonna be about…?”
    everyone would stay quiet
and say “were not allowed to talk about that, were not allowed to say what its about”
were assuming that theres gonna be a prolouge at the beginning of the film, were we’ll see him as a kid , but its just an assumption we really know nothing about the film

    ….

You guys do realise that the person saying 70-80% of post-production, DOES NOT WORK ON THE FILM. He saw the set, and gave a rough estimate.

I don’t think its 70-80% anyway…definatley not 80%. If it was 80% we would have seen WAY more bluescreen on the set leaks we’ve seen.

I think it would be around 50% bluescreen.

I think a prologue would be perfect. It will show the story behind Goku and how/why he was put on Earth to prevent any confusion. Kinda like how 300 showed the story behind Spartans and Leonidas.

AND THEY ARE NOT SURE HOW THE MOVIE IS GOONA TURN OUT TO BE SINCE HE MOVIE IS ABOUT 80% SPECIAL EFFECTS. AND ITS BEGINNING TOWARDS THE END OF DRAGONBALL AND LEADING TO DRAGONBALL Z

    April 17th, 2008 at 12:47 | #33

its not gonna be 80% cgi
i belive he wanted to say 80% of the scenes have some sort of cgi on them, those are completely different things
from the pics we ve seen we know by now its practically impossible for it to be 80% cgi

I have to agree, this guy Luis Arieta seems like a pretty cool actor, and might I add he looks really hot XD

  43. April 17th, 2008 at 16:27 | #43

Whoaaaaaa I just saw the Youtube video with weaver and Im surprised!! I must admit, he is a very good actor. I like when he screamed out “What do you mean who” the other actor looked scared when he said that. If his acting is that good in Dragonball I’ll be very pleased. He knows how to get emotional very quick. Hey Maybe you should make a post of that video Boss, theres alot of people who never seen Luis Arrieta act. Some people might change there minds after watching it

this is probably a stupid question, but if they said Goku will be killed in the movie, that doesn’t mean he’ll be forever gone from the movie series right? I mean,he is the main character of the series, and yes i know he dies a couple times in the actual show, and i was thinking Fox was gonna be doing something similar to that. You know have him killed but not be gone.

    Ya 70-80% is just nonsense.

I am waiting for the teaser trailer.
