James Marsters Total Sci-Fi Interview
James Marsters (Piccolo) was recently interviewed by Total Sci-Fi, where he briefly mentioned his work on Dragonball. Thanks to Karen for the link.
How was it filming Dragonball in the extensive Piccolo make-up?
The first time we did the make-up, it took 17 hours, so four hours seemed like nothing. My costume looked great, but I couldn’t breathe in it.
Any surprises in doing a big budget movie?
I suspect it’s going to turn out really well, but so much is done in post-production, it’s difficult to gauge. In Durango, they wanted Piccolo to be more beautiful, and I wanted him to be old, decrepit and ugly. There are no mirrors in prison. [The character has been in prison for two thousand years.]
The character started out looking young and beautiful. I went to the make-up artist and said, ‘The producers want the character to be beautiful, but the producers ain’t here. And we’re going to put back with paint what they took away with the sculpt [prosthetics make-up].’ The director agreed with me. I would rather have been fired than mess up Piccolo.
Will fans of the Dragonball and Dragonball Z series like the movie?
There have been some changes, but it’s true to the heart of Dragonball.

Anyways, Marsters is definitely commited to this role, and understands the character. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out when this movie rolls into theatres.
These interviews are nice though, to help pass the time for the trailer.

Just the commitment of the actors to thier character and trying their hardest to stay true to that character should be enough for all these so called “fans” who do nothing but bash this movie, rather than support it, and wait to see the masterpiece that this can, and probably will, become!!
If these people were true fans of the series, they would not be boycotting and bashing.. They think that this movie is ruining this series.. But it’s their attitudes that ruin it..
Not much we haven’t heard before, but whatever. I’m guessing there’s going to be a lot of fx work for the fights and all that. 17 hours? Vegita! that can’t be right… when did the man sleep?

i wonder if there will be a dragonball the movie video game… i mean all the spider man movies got their own game, same with xmen..hulk.. even transformers . that would be so kickass a realistic looking action/RPG dragonball game . i wonder what the toy marketing will be like! ill surely collect some of the action figures

I think I’d go crazy if I had to sit in one place for 17 freakin’ hours. Other than that, he said the exact same thing in another interview. I like that he didn’t say “yeah, the fans will love it!”

I would go crazy to if I had to sit 17 hours, I can’t even sit still for 1/4 of that time.

Trailer’s not coming with TDK. They released a list already of what will be shown with it I’m pretty sure. It’s gonna be Terminator 4, Watchmen, and Body of Lies.

@Anonymous: Dude, there’s definently going to be more than just 3 trailers! No movie that I have ever watched at the theatre has ever had below at least 5 trailers. There were just naming big movies, not saying Dragonball isn’t, but what if they’re keeping it a secret? I don’t know why they would do that, but who knows

You’re better off sticking with Burst Limit than any movie based game. Not that the movie based game will be bad, but why play a game featuring only a few characters when you can play Burst Limit and have a cornucopia of others?

@pr0digy: IS BURST LIMIT WORTH GETTING, I already got all the other dbz games….Is it better, different, worth buying….Also check out MORTAL VS DC ….thats gonna be an awsome fighting classic game
yeah i found out about mortal kombat vs DC about a month ago or so..
burst limit is a good game.i wouldnt recommend it unless you’re gonna play online a lot.. the story mode is way too easy & short.. i beat the game in 3 hours the day it came out.. but dont get me wrong its an awesome game. definetly an improvement since the budokai games..the best thing about burst limit is that EVERY single character has different fighting styles and plenty of attacks to choose from. the graphics are nice looks just like the anime but in 2d. the only thing burst limit is missing is more playable characters & more storyline movie cut-scenes. if it had that it would be flawlessly perfect
Did you guys notice that in his last Interview James Marsters said “That Piccolo just floats in the sky starring at his feet and pays no attention to the beautiful scenery. because he is so hellbent on revenge (Not the exact quote but whatevs)” To me that totally describes When Piccolo is in deep thought. I know this movie is gonna rock! I thought since day one Chatwin was a good Goku and Marsters was a good Piccolo (a little short for Piccolo, but he has similar traits to his face). I just hope that the last scene in the movie you see the evil Piccolo spit out regular Piccolo.
