Dragonball at Comic-Con?

According to TheHollywoodNews.com, Fox will be promoting Dragonball later this week at Comic-Con in San Diego.

I’ve got to admit, I know nothing about this movie, except the fact that Fox are taking it to Comic Con later this week, so expect some more promo stuff to pop up online later.

/Film also seems convinced that Fox will be promoting Dragonball there as well.

I’m sure Fox will launch some new marketing materials later this week at Comic Con.

If anyone is attending Comic-Con, feel free to send us anything you may find.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Dragonball had no presence at the event.

Discuss on our forums.

    sweet maybe we will see a teaser soon, or even the grande unveiling on lord piccolo, it will be intresting to see.

    i had a nightmare about the movie last night, piccolo was red and looked like satan and the make-up was so bad it looked like a halloween mask with red face paint and gokus transformation was a spiky green lego alien, the only good part was that i was playing vegeta in the next film, i would say it was triggerd from my mate telling me he could see my “vegeta style” receding hair line earlier that day :twisted:

  6. July 21st, 2008 at 15:34 | #6

    I hope to god the trailer will be one of the things they show.

  7. July 21st, 2008 at 15:34 | #7

    What happend with the banner? and what s that white thing to the left of “Dragonball” O_O

    I feel this movie is on the wrong way with its low-quality posters, and “artistic”pics. I can t imagine this poor campaign on a batman movie.

    I used to go to Comic-Con every year, but lately tickets have been harder to get and they sell out REALLY fast. :| I didn’t bother going this year because I thought they weren’t going to promote Dragonball . . . I feel like kicking myself. :x

    Fox’s official line-up for Comic Con. If they’re not even promoting Wolverine, they’re obviously not going to promote DB which doesn’t come out until after Wolverine is released.

  13. July 21st, 2008 at 16:02 | #13

    @J: Perhaps it’s a surprise? :P

    @Adam: I was just putting that out there. I know they do surprises for E3 but I don’t know much about surprises for Comic-Con. TBH I’ve only watched part of CC last year so I don’t know much about it, sorry.

    Sweet, maybe they’ll even the show the trailer there.

    Geez, look at all the comments on the /film article. I don’t think some of those people know what the word “adaption” means.

  17. J
    July 21st, 2008 at 16:17 | #17

    @That Dragonball Guy: Well now they’re saying ‘based on’ instead of adaptation since it’s pretty loosely related to the source. I guess that’s appropriate, I want to see a trailer first though but I’m willing to wait a long time for that.

    This has me very confused, especially since, as J posted, neither DB nor Wolverine are in the line up for Fox. O_O It’s interesting that the Hollywood Reporter said that . . . but still doesn’t seem very likely. I dunno. I sure won’t be complaining if it turns out true. XD

    There better be something. What the hell is fox thinking by being so low-key on this major MAJOR adaptation of the MOST popular anime of all time. Let me reiterate. MOST POPULAR ANIME OF ALL TIME. We should have gotten a teaser a month ago but they’re being stupid. God, throw us a bone here. some of us have been waiting decades for this.

    my sentiments exactly.
    fox has really been effin’ this one up. then again, they might have been running into cgi issues with that company that did 300.

    hey the only live televised coverige of everything happening at comic con is Attack of the show. If anything happens they will surely show it, most likely even before it pops up on the internet. I know some people here dont watch tv but I’m just putting that out there

  32. Michael Bay
    July 21st, 2008 at 19:05 | #32

    It really does seem as though fox is underestimating the box office potential of Dragonball. Even if the movie it’s self isn’t great, if they do a good job at marketing this film ( which they haven’t so far ) then it could stand to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars. As someone else said, this is THE MOST POPULAR ANIME OF ALL FREAK”N TIME!!, without question. Even if you’re not a fan, if you disagree with the fact that dragonball is insanely popular, you obviously haven’t done your research. Fox needs to get off their ass, hire some of the top marketers in the industry ( like say- the people behind the dark knight web campaign? ) and start trying to make this movie look appealing. Even if the movie’s crap, with good marketing you have every chance of convincing people otherwise- just look at spiderman 3. It just makes me angry that it really seems like they are putting very little effort into what could potentiallly turn into a mammoth franchise.

    I had a dream about a DB movie awhile ago. It was right after the very first Cloverfield trailer came out. The one where they didnt show anything, just people running and the city blowing up. I dreamed that the trailer went on to show an oazuro attacking a city and piccolo showing up to take him out. It was a great dream.

    @Michael Bay: thats exactly how i feel,.. this movie could be insanely popular with the right promotion, fox are missing out on something huge by not promoting it. hopefully they´ll start this week at comic con
    i want to believe they didn´t already start promoting because they have so much faith in the movie, that they don´t think it needs promotion 9,10 months before hitting theaters.. i mean, how could they put 100 million and not have faith in it?
    @pikkoro26: f**k off
    sorry about that adam

    July 21st, 2008 at 23:58 | #43

    @nanjirou: They haven’t started promoting Wolverine yet, either (to my knowledge, at least; I admit I’m not really following that movie) . . . and that one is coming out before DB. I don’t doubt that DB will get hyped up (Fox is good at that) when the time is right. I still think it’s a bit too early, though . . . at least for anything major.

  44. Novashinron
    July 22nd, 2008 at 02:05 | #44

    @Moi: actually DB comes out first now they moved the Wolverine movie back to 5-1-09. but i see what your saying… we are all just hoping for a teaser though something to get us even more excited about the movie.

  45. LiamDowler
    July 22nd, 2008 at 03:19 | #45

    i think they might screen the teaser at comic-con
    it makes sense them not releasing it yet, maybe waiting until comic-con :lol:

  46. That Dragonball Guy
    July 22nd, 2008 at 13:09 | #46

    @Michael Bay:

    Spider-Man 3 was the third installment of a great franchise, while Dragonball is the first live-action movie in the series (Not counting that Magic Begins thing). Plus, Spider-Man has been around America for more then 50 years, and everyone has grown up with it.

    Along with that, I also think the general public here is more open to the idea. When the average guy that doesn’t know what it is hears about it, he thinks “Well, that sounds alright. Guy gets bit by a biologically enhanced spider, then swings around and fights crime.” When it’s Dragonball, he thinks “WTF.” Who wouldn’t, especially once you hear about a pink fat thing that turns people into cookies.

    The goal of most movies is to atleast make the budget back. Since Dragonball is so popular in Japan, they’d think the chance of a succesfull gross would be higher there. Obviously, there will be more promotion in Japan. I could be wrong, but so far, it’s been all in Japan. Nothing here.

    I have a bad feeling that the marketing/promotion of this movie in the U.S. will be a giant blast of special beam shit. It’s dumb though, because with the right marketing, this movie could do well at this Box-Office.
