James Marsters at Dragon*Con
James Marsters (Piccolo) is attending Dragon*Con (August 29th-September 1st) this weekend, and while there isn’t a Dragonball panel, Marsters does have several Q&A sessions lined up.
A fan wrote a summary of today’s Q&A, and James happened to mention Dragonball. Nothing too new is revealed, but we’ll update this post throughout the weekend.
He was asked about what character he liked the most and what character he was most like. He said the guy from “P.S. I Love You†was most like him. Basically the character was down to earth – boring – (his words, not mine). The character he most liked was Piccolo. He said that with “Dragonball†he was more involved (he said he didn’t really offer a lot of ideas, etc. to the directors of “P.S. I Love You†and just wanted to do a good job unlike all the other stars of the show) and that he was constantly hashing things out with the director. He also mentioned that his stunt double did only one stunt for him and that the rest of the time he was the one making those leaps, etc. He mentioned that he was showing off for his girlfriend and the room kinda deflated. *grin* Then, after all that, he was like, “I liked Spike too.â€
He was asked how he prepared for Piccolo. He mentioned that he’d seen all the episodes with his son, sometimes more than once, that he liked the “message†of the show. That peaceful, humble men =/= weak. Said it was a good message for young men growing up in today’s world, especially in the US.
A little more to add:
He said that the most enjoyable show to shoot of all was DragonBall because he didn’t really have a stunt man and did 99% of the stunts himself and he was scared to death the entire time (he said he has a weird sense of fun
).
Geeks of Doom has more:
“I didn’t have to do very much research,†he said of the film. “I have a son, so I’ve probably watched every single episode of Dragon Ball.â€
The story was something Marsters really identified with, he said, adding that Goku’s nature to choose violence only as a last resort was a trait all young boys should be exposed to.
“Having said that, the hyper-violence of Dragon Ball has to be there, but in the right context,†he said. “I’ve had debates with my son about it.â€
Sounds to be good., can’t wait to see this movie..
Kageyama (singer for the the anime on the DB movie):
“Sina Entertainment
Animation Dragonball Z theme song singer Kageyama Hironobu, has already decided to go to Hong Kong for a concert world tour on the 7th of October with JAM Project members. Days ago when he went to Hong Kong to attend the “Hong Kong Animation Comic Game Festival”, he revealed he will investigate Hong Kong fans’ likings before decided to sing which songs. Regarding Dragonball being made into live action film, he blantly stated that the Kamesennin played by Chow Yunfat looked too young, and Kamesennin did not have hair, and he also revealed that Yunfat was very famous in Japan.”
Here’s another article about how Fox handles their movies:
http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=9945&count=0
I mean Kageyama is the singer for the original anime for the past 20 years and the rest is what he has to say about the DB movie.
@J: just another stupid who cant even use his brain to understand why they made master roshi the way they did him…
oh and its not going to ruin the movie having master roshi look younger
i don´t care if he sang or whatever he did for the anime
its good to know that chow yun fat is very famous in japan though
@J: about that article, fox made some really great movies, some of the best ever (star wars), we can only hope that dragonball is one of those great movies
@nanjirou: Why yes, they did make Star Wars, but the original trilogy came out long before Fox was run by that douche Tom Rothman.
I said it before and ill say it again, this movie sounds good man,I like how they made it,the stunts are great and the sound effects will be awesome.I dont care about cast either or how the story was made.MY PROBLEM WAS the Characters. What really got me MAD was that the original characters wont be in the movie thats what made this movie look bad. They should’ve put the original characters in it,I bet the movie will be better.I wanted Krillin,Tien and the midget guy named Chaos to be in the movie. They should at least put Krillin in school with Goku and both of them getting trained at the same time with Master Roshi, and after that put Lord Piccolo’s monsters to kill Krillin thats really a good idea. And about Tien and his midget friend Chaos they should’ve only put them in the Martial arts Tournament,or put them as friends with Yamcha helping Goku find the Dragonballs.Thats what they should’ve done.I wish they could change their mind and do that before the movie gets Release. But I bet it will be good anyways.
@J: old skinny fighting 100 year old guys isnt realistic.. manga is manga
@Clown Prince of Crime:
Krillin, Tien, and the others weren’t in Dragon Ball: Path to Power either. It was a re-imaging of Dragon Ball much like this Dragonball movie is, all it included was meeting Bulma, Master Roshi, Yamcha, Oblong, Android 8, and the villains, along the way Goku learned the Kamehameha and then at the end he made a wish. This film seems exactly the same, only live action and with Piccolo and Mai as the villains.
Krillin, Tien, etc aren’t necessary for re-imaging of the first series, but he plays a much bigger role in Z. They can introduce them in Z.
@J:
Damn man that article is scary. I hope that Rothman idiot doesnt sabotage Dragonball.
Damnit, Warner Bros should have taken the rights.
@grapes: wtf, nothing in db is realistic… thats not a good enough excuse
Meh- this arguement is sounding just as pathetic as politics. =/
@ROb: What? you are crazy and a BIG LIAR.Krillin been in Dragonball since episode 14 when he was a kid he was trained with Goku and Master Roshi. And tien and Chaos APPEARD IN EPISODE 82 he first met Goku in the forest at night.Because Tien was stealing and Goku tried to stop them, and they fought Tien beat Goku because Goku didnt had nothing to eat and was weak so Tien beat Goku at first. Then in episode 84 in The Martial arts Tournament everybody were getting ready to get in,Tien and Chaos appeard in the Tournament with their Master NAMED Suru who WAS Master Roshi’s old rival. Then in episode 101 Goku and Tien fought again in the Martial arts Tournament FINALS and Tien won by luck. After that they became friends and the whole crew got together in a Dinner. But Krillin didnt showed up in the dinner because he was KILLED by Lord Piccolo’s MONSTERS.AND all of this happened in the Dragonball series NOT Dragonball Z,so dont come at me like you some SMART ASS and think you know everything because I am a true Dragonball FAN and I know everything about Dragonball since I was 5 years old.You must be some new kid fan in Dragonball.
Clown Prince of Crime: youy are not understanding what Rob meant. He was talking about the dragonball film “Path to Power” NOT the dragonball series! This live action film should be compared to that, not the series. If you compare it to the series you will definately find major differences(ofcourse) as the series was tens of hours long!:!:
DUDE clown prince what ever , he was talking about the PATH TO POWER MOVIE made by the PEOPLE WHO DID GT, they made like a short little movie telling the tale of goku they pretty much covered all the episodes from beguing to the end of the RRA saga but they cut out alot of the story it was the basic idea of how goku came to be….
@decaDBZ: @Walsh: OK I understand now I thought he was talking about the Series my bad rob.I still think my idea is better.
I hate the people who made GT… it would have probably been better if Akira Toriyama did GT himself instead of letting those loonies make it all weird and junk.
*has a grudge against them for killing off Piccolo*
<<;; *innocent whistle.*
Yeah true they should do GT over again with 200 episodes with a totally differemt story new villains and more fun it will be good.
@CAT: yeah, well Toriyama is doing away with the entire GT storyline by making his own sequel. It’s called Dragon Ball Online.
@grapes: It never was supposed to be. BTW, Roshi’s muscles get enormous when he goes max power.
@JoseMP: oh, hehe. Well in the case of the director of Babylon AD, I believe he was the one who chose Fox to help him with the movie. Turns out they weren’t much of a help at all. As for Wolverine, well I guess you can apply that to the entire Dragon Ball movie. Remember what Marsters said about the ‘young and beautiful’ Piccolo? My guess is that’s just one of many, many things Fox is doing with this movie.
@Clown Prince of Crime:
Yeah, but Dragon Ball: Path to Power proves that a re-imaging of Dragon Ball does not need Krillin or Tien.
They could, however, be introduced in a sequel
I had an idea of how it could work in a sequel. Instead of meeting up at Kame island like they did in the start of Dragon Ball Z they meet up at the World Martial Arts Tournament and Goku has a brief rivalry with Master Roshi’s newest student Krillin and maybe Tien. They could grow bond and respect each other through rivalries and respecting Goku’s power. Raditz kidnaps Gohan at the Martial Arts tournament and the rest is exactly like Z. Krillin and Yamcha get training from Kami, but on the way there they meet Tien who wants to train with them, they all climb the tower and get training from Kami and Goku trains with King Kai. Gohan trains with Piccolo, but instead of just ditching him and teaches the audience more about ki energy and teaches Gohan how to use ki energy, etc.
The point is, Tien and Krillin aren’t needed for a re-imaging for Dragon Ball, but it would be a real let down if they weren’t in a re-imaging of Z.
@ROb: True to that, but I still think my idea is good putting Krillin in school with Goku and both of them getting trained with Master Roshi, and after that put one Lord Piccolo’s monsters to kill Krillin thats really a good idea. But I do like yours I just hope Dragonball Z ends up better and hope it gets a good Vegeta and a good Napa.I think Bill Goldberg should be Napa he really matches to him.
Ok so, completely unrelated but I was just watching “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” and was surprised to see that Jamie Chung is in it. She actually has a very small role, but she’s wearing lingerie and that’s all that matters.
@J: Dragon Ball Online is just a video game for the PC, 360 and PS3 (maybe). Toriyama is making a new DBZ manga, the true sequel to DBZ and the anime should be aired sometime in 2010 since the manga is still in progress. Unfortunately people say it will only air on the FUNimation channel.
Oh btw its called Dragon Ball Returns
@Clown Prince of Crime: Your ideas suck…like…in all honesty. Thats why they hired James Wong to adapt Dragonball and not you, because you would make a sequel to The Magic Begins. People say it every day on this site, its an ADAPTION. Things have to be changed for a realistic tone. Unless your the director, and you feel that some guy with 3 eyes and an albino midget would win this movie a golden globe, I’m happy with the changes
I know you are just voicing your opinion, its just there is no reason for you to get all fussy about it. If you want to see Tien and Chiaotzu, go watch the show. And lmao!! You call yourself “A True Fan” of Dragonball? I have seen maybe about 3 episodes and I know his name is Chiaotzu not Chaos.
I just want to see Emmy Rossum in a bunny suit. That’s all I really want, what I really really want.
@AwesomeGuy: uh where did you hear this?
@Tommy: You can kiss my ass you pussy. You lucky you in the internet talking shit but I swear ill beat the crap out of you if I catch you in real life. The name of the midget guy IS CHAOS in spanish you dumb ass.Is different names in every different language like Tien in spanish and Japenise is Tenchin han, something like that, and Chi-Chi’s name in spanish is Milk and I seen all the episodes from Dragonball to Dragonball Z and GT so I dont know what you are talking about.
@AwesomeGuy: Where did you heard this man?Are you for real?
wat the fuk is going on, i want 2 hear better news
who agrees that the end of the trailer, should be a black screen with just the audio of ka-me-ha-me……
