Gabriela de la Garza Interview

September 17th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

It was just recently revealed that Mexican actress Gabriela de la Garza would have a small part in the film. We were curious about the role, so we asked her a few questions about it. Thanks to Sean for arranging the interview, and a big thank you to Gabriela for taking the time to answer the questions!

DBtheMovie: What is your characters role / purpose in the movie? How long were you on set?
Gabriela de la Garza: I am an Avatar, and I give information to other characters. I was only one day on set and one day for wardrobe and make-up design which is awesome.

DBtheMovie: Were you familiar with Dragonball before being cast?
A: I knew Dragon Ball Z from the Tv series and of course also knew the impact it has worldwide. Thats why despite of having a small role, I really was excited to do it. Is one of those experiences, full of fantasy, you dont have every day.

DBtheMovie: How was it like working with the director James Wong?
A: Working with James Wong was great. He is a very specific kind of person and he can really transmit the idea he has for every scene. He really cares about the details so I am sure the movie will be beyond extraordinary!

DBtheMovie: Where did you shoot your scenes?
A: I shot my scenes with a green screen at Estudios Churubusco.

DBtheMovie: Did you get to work with any of the cast?
A: I worked alone, I mean with no other member of the cast. I met Justin [Chatwin] while doing our make up and he is a very cool guy, He was exited to be working in Mexico. We had a nice talk.

DBtheMovie: And finally, do you think the fans of the show will be satisfied with this adaptation?
A: Be sure not only the fans, but everybody who sees the movie will be very, very pleased and satisfied with the result. I think the director, the cast, the production, everything is part of a huge success, and I am very proud to be part of it.

Ive been reading the comments on here for a long time and some people are just plain idiots. How about you give the movie a chance before you pass judgement on it yet? Nobody has seen it, so nobody can say it fails.

Just remember all the fuss caused by Casino Royale before it came out. Daniel Craig was widely criticised as James Bond, the fans complained about the changes that were being made to the bond universe, etc. Look how that turned out. Best Bond movie in a long time. Give the movie a chance to prove itself. That is all.

Isn’t it funny how many haters love to come here and bash the DB movie??? Come on guys, if you hate it so much, and if you seriously believe it will be a flop then why do you come back all the time just to say the exact same thing you’ve said for so long… I bet you love this adaptation so much you just want to deny it… Also don’t forget that movies audience don’t include die hard otakus only, the other 95% of the population who go to see movies don’t mind if it is 100% just like the original manga or anime story…

So calm down… If this movie has great special effects, a nice plot, with the dragonball characters it will be HUGE and there will be a franchise… The other 95% of the people don’t care if Piccolo is as green as in the anime, or if Goku is as strong as in the anime, or if Bulma has blue hair, or if Roshi isn’t bold… It is very likely that they haven’t even heard about Dragonball in their lifes…

If you are a true DB fan support this movie and maybe the next one will be more like the original, if you don’t support it, it will take at least a decade until any other company wants to pay for a movie, so if you are part of the group who wish that this movie fails then you will be in part responsable for taking this project away from the rest of the fans!

@Paco: “If you are a true DB fan support this movie and maybe the next one will be more like the original…”

 This is illogical. It won’t be like the original ever if Fox is the one doing it.

Dude why make a movie about dragonball for the so called “95 percent who don’t”
People have photoshopped images of rossum and master roshi (forgot actors name) and they look SWEET, it was unecessary to A) destroy the character’s personality (Goku is pure and innocent because he grew up in the WILDERNESS) not gossiping in High School.
Goku has a tail that’s very important in the series. Face it us “haters” KNOW THE TRUTH: that they made those changes to make more MONEY by making it more generic. They KNOW people know the dragonball name even if not big fans.
Lol if you are a fan and are excited you’re on denial, changes are for money. You didn’t see Lord of the Rings making huge changes right? NO only necessary ones, THAT WAS a TRUE adaptation.
I love DragonBall and i was soooo excited (and i didnt mind chatwit or chatwick playing goku, he DOES look like him,) but when they destoyed the character and left the clothes and his name (high school thing), and removed the CHARACTER WHO PROMPTED THE ANGER NEEDED FOR A SUPER SAIYAN (remember this might be a trilogy, SSJ? they kill weaver? lol…).
Why is Piccolo NOT looking like a Namek, forget the green (big deal anyways), he looks NOTHING like a Namek, Namekians are not monstrous.
The Truth is DragonBall would have never been made, had it not been a success literary in all continents. They would not make the money back (over 100 million) if it was made for fans or if made like this but for a US release anyways.
They made a cash-cow and duped people are gonna pay 8-10 dollars to defend their previous position in this movie.
As for me i’ll see anything DB/Z related……….but that’s why we have Pirated movie version and eventually DVD rips :D sry FOX……….
this is like the 2001 version of the Hulk…………it will suck……and hopefully like 5 -6 years laters someone will make a GOOD version of the movie….
Oh and Akira Torimaya fit THE ENTIRE DRAGONBALL SAGA into a movie called PATH to POWER (less than 2 hours movie).
So if the storyline fits in a movie (DB: Path to power), and a guy took a BOOK from tolkein and made it true to the book, can’t FOX do a Dragonball movie, true to the actual story, within the time constrains of a movie? YES THEY CAN, but they just want cash……..go ahead defend it, in the end I will see it for free, FOX will make money, and the only one to loose here is well the guys defending it lol

    @Rammstein:
Why are you here? We dont come on your gay porn forums and tell you how much we hate gay porn. @SSJfrank:
Path to power is a cartoon and it only covers some of dragonball.
When creating a book to movie is much easier than creating anime/cartoon or tv series to movie. And LOTR’s wern’t that close to the books at all so you prob havnt even read the books.
Dragonball as is wont work on the big screen it will come acroos lame even though it is a great anime. It needs to have changes.

Again guys… If you are hating this project so badly why keep do you keep reading the posts and entering this website??? Do you really believe they could fit the entire Dragon Ball saga (not Z or GT) in a less than 2 and half hour movie and include all the characters and still make it easy to understand for the audience who don’t know anything about dragon ball???

My point is if this movie sucks there will be no franchise and there will be no other chance to have it in a live action film… Maybe in a decade some rich Japanese producers might be interested… But want to know why it may flop??? DB fans are so HARD TO PLEASE and they want it all PERFECT that it wouldn’t even matter if Akira Toriyama himself made the script, many would still be bashing and hating it…

Fox has good movies, and bad movies too, but why are you up to critisizing if we haven’t even seen the trailer!. After the trailer, then maybe, we could start really critisizing!.

About Piccolo’s color, it may look greener, but who knows… And just wait for the special effects.

About Goku being in High School, well Gohan was in High School, so what if Goku went to High School, is that really THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF DRAGONBALL??? or if ROSHI ISN’T BOLD???… Come on!

If they had made Goku a girl, or without any special powers and transformed him into a GI-Joe character then maybe I would be bashing with you… But I believed they had respected DB’s essence!

com’on guy’s you need to be greatful for the fact their even coming out with a dragonball live action movie. Because honestly we’re lucky that the dragonball fanchise is even being reborn like it is. This is a new oppertunity for the dragonball franchise to continue living on.

  24. September 19th, 2008 at 07:51 | #24

I know you all remember when we were all younger we use to wish and pray that they would ever come out with a dragonball live action movie. Now it is finally happening and almost everybody(mainly DBZ fan) is being ungreatful. It does’nt matter if you love dragonball the way it is because it won’t if dragonball is forgotten by everybody(even some fans) for the fact that it is so old. WE NEED SOME NEW FORM OF DRAGONBALL BECAUSE HONESTLY DRAGONBALL IS NEARLY EXTINCT ALREADY. OTHER ANIMES LIKE BLEACH AND NARUTO ARE ALREADY OUTSHINNING DRAGONBALL WITH NEWER AND BETTER EPISODES. THIS PROBABLY THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE DRAGONBALL FRANCHISE. THIS COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO A NEW DRAGONBALL SERIES IN THE FUTURE, SO BE GREATFUL DBZ FANS.

  26. September 19th, 2008 at 08:15 | #26

For those people that said Goku is stupid and has no form of education you need to get up on your DBZ history class because it’s a fact that he recieve some form of education from master roshi. If truly watch every episode of dragonball including the lost ones you would know that Goku received a decent a level of education when he was getting trained by master roshi. You’ll also find out that goku is not stupid or retarted like what most people think he is, but he’s actually pretty smart if look at how he’s always figuring out a solution for every new problem he encounters. So Goku is not retarted or stupid like must of these dragonball uneducated fans think he is, Goku maybe goofy at sometimes but when it’s time to get serious he’s not stupid or retarted but pretty intellegent. You can also receive this knowlegde about Goku from wikipedia.org or dragonball.wikia.com which both prove and support my statements on Goku. :D

    September 19th, 2008 at 09:18 | #27

He’s going to be green? Wow! Some of you guys are really in denial. Especially after being shown the photo of Chatwin summoning Shenron to resurrect Muten Roshi. You only get 1 wish per year, remember? That photo looks like it was taken immediately after the fight with Nosferatu…err Piccolo.

@Paco: I don’t care if Gohan went to high school. This movie is about Goku, not Gohan. They may be father and son, but they are two very different people who grew up in very different ways, so you and everyone else saying the same thing can quit using the Buu saga as a cop-out.

BTW, when was the last time Fox had a good movie? The last one I remember was Revenge of the Sith and that was over 3 years ago. Fox sucks.

  28. September 19th, 2008 at 09:41 | #28

One more thing, Dragonball is not pure fantasy like most people think. It’s a mixture of fantasy and reality put together in one world. Also some people say the Dragonball world is not the same as our world, actually they are wrong because there were a few ocassion where they showed an American flag on one of the Dragonball episodes and Goku made a reference to Isaac Newton. We also cannot forget the 12th Dragonball Z movie: Fusion Reborn where janemba broke the barrier between life and death and we witnissed Adolf Hitler and his army attack the city which is an indication of Dragonball being way after World War 2. Before people start saying that man and his army is not Hitler and his army, it actually is Hitler because in the Japanese original audio it is stated by goten or trunks that it was Hitler. The only reason you might not hear them say Adolf Hitler in the English Audio is because America does not wan’t a cartoon to remind the JEWS of Hitler or offend them. So far that shows that dragonball in a way is far after prehistoric times. Even though from time to time we may see dinosaurs and talking animals that could be a result of a futuristic expriement of hybrid and genetically MODIFIED ANIMALS and CLONED DINOSAURS. Just look at Juarasic Park and that probably can explain how we see dinosaurs in Dragonball’s futuristic world. All I’am trying to say is some of the stuff in dragonball is possible in real life if not now then in the future, which is the time period that the dragonball world is in. You can call the dragonball college professer. 8)

to everyone that has been dumping on the movie (yet AGAIN without needing to be prompted *sigh*) Be greatful they are even attempting a db movie. if you aren’t greatful then what are you doing here? If your goal is to whine about it enough that the movie will stop it from being made, then boy are you ever off. If that is what you are trying to do here, then you are on the wrong site. Write to fox, go on their site, but I guarantee they will not pull an ENTIRE movie out of the cutting room because a group of ppl write them and say they hate it. In the end all you are doing is incurring the wrath of fans of the movie and of the series together and aggravating them. So therefore if you can’t post anything nice, then GO AWAY!

@Goku3000: “WE NEED SOME NEW FORM OF DRAGONBALL BECAUSE HONESTLY DRAGONBALL IS NEARLY EXTINCT ALREADY. ”

We probably need a new LOTR, Star Trek and Star wars as well. What about a new Spider-Man? Smallville is good so we need a new Spider-Man to compete with that…

YOU ARE NOT A FAN! Fox employee, give up trying to pass as a fan. What you say makes no sense and an outright offense to anybody that enjoys Dragon Ball. A new Dragon Ball?

Well, if Akira did it himself it could even be good. But definitely not some clueless American studio.

@Goku3000: “Goku maybe goofy at sometimes but when it’s time to get serious he’s not stupid or retarted but pretty intellegent.”

Not at all. Goku is “slow”, and euphemism for not very bright. He never had a formal education and all he does is to train and fight.

Check the episode when Chi-chi is trying to matriculate Gohan in school, and they make an interview with the parents. They will ask Goku about his hobbies, and Goku has no idea what to answer. So Chi-chi tell him to say that he enjoys reading books, in order to look “smart”.

Or even the end of DB GT. After Goku stops watching Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr, the narrator says it. “Goku was not very smart, but he was … something about great guy …”.

Stop it. Just say the movie is completely different, Goku is a completely different chracter and everything else. Stop trying to pretend the movie is actually what you see on the series because ANY FAN will know you are lying.

So what? They made reference to Hitler as well! When the dead ressurect and they need to fight all the bad guys again there is Hitler there leading a column of tanks!

That’s a completely ficticious world. It’s passed nowhere. It has ingredients of Asian culture (chinese, japanese, etc), it has stuff based on western culture, it has dinosaurs and animals that talk, it has aliens, etc. It’s not the past, it’s not the future, it’s a completely different place.

Are you saying that the martial arts tournament is inspired in America!? WTF! Nothing there is even remotely American.

Stop it. Fox employee, give up. The movie will suck, it is completely different in everything. Even Piccolo is not green.

@Goku3000: The same way LOTR has aspects that are based on middle ages, Dragon Ball has aspects that based on real life.

But that doesn’t mean that LOTR story is on our world, the same way that doesn’t mean that Dragon Ball is on our world. Both stories are on different universes, with a lot of fantasy and magic.

Imagine the following idea: You know, a guy coming from a planet called Krypton is not “American” enough, the average joe will never relate to that. Let’s make it more realistic. Let’s say he came from California. Yes, the superman came from California. And his father, Jor-el, didn’t die. He was killed by Lex Luthor, so now Kal-el has a reason to wish revenge. So we make a movie about Kal-el seeking revenge against the evil Lex Luthor for killing his Californian father.

What about that? Does it sound real enough?

Now imagine how Dragon Ball fans feel by seeing similar things being done to an already fantastic and magic story.

    Rammstein

There is a different between being “smart” and being intelligent. Goku definately shows great intelligence when the situation demands it. He isn’t “smart”, of course he isn’t, to be smart you need to be well educated academically, which goku is not. He is however, very wise when fighting his opponents. He always knows the best thing to do in tricky situations, factoring everyones safety into the equation.

I think this movie is going to be amazing! Even if it is FAR worse than it could potentially have been, to me, it will still be AWESOME. I would even be incredibly excited if they were merely producing one single fight scene, even if the characters were unknown/invented, providing that modern special effects were used.

All the “haters” are just pessimists, and they are probably the same in all aspects of their lives, always looking on the bad side of things. So don’t worry about them FANS, they have problems with their outlook on live, hopefully they can change someday… :-)

I’am not going to waist my time arguing with Rammstein because he is Probably a Warner Bros Employee. My main point is if you watch DRAGONBALL not DRAGONBALL Z you will find out that Goku received some degree of education just go look up SON GOKU on wikipedia and you will see what I’am taking about. Because honestly if you were a real fan of the DRAGONBALL FRANCHISE PERIOD (NOT JUST DRAGONBALL Z BUT THE WHOLE FRANCHISE) you would know this because you would researched every authentic peice of dragonball material their is until you would eventially found out that Goku recieved some form of education. IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE THEN GO ON WIKIPEDIA!!!. Jeez I’am tired of arguing with uneducated dragonball fans. No OFFENSE to the ones who’s knowledge is limited about the series.

Pardon me, I meant to say go to WIKIPEDIA and look up DRAGONBALL. I’am sorry for the minor mistake I made, But I still think Rammstein and the rest of the dragonball movie bashers are truly Warner Bros Employees posing as fans.

Rammstein, I think goku3000 is right, you may just be a warner bros employee. Perhaps thats why you are always saying others are fox employees, becuase you think there are others like you on the other side…
I can’t think of any other reason why you would constantly come on here to talk shit about the film. Perhaps you have an incredibly boring life, and want to make others feel as bad as you do? I don’t know… :?:
