Is Roshi Perverted?
The french magazine Cine Live ran an article on Dragonball, which has several revealing quotes from the executive producer Tim Van Rellim and director James Wong. Perhaps the most notable revelation is from Wong, who comments on a certain perverted turtle hermit.
Is Roshi true to the manga character? “Yes, somewhat,” said director James Wong. “We kept his main features, like his humor. But in the manga Roshi is a true sexual pervert, which wouldn’t work in a family film. So we removed that part of the character.”
“I discovered that Dragonball had such a rich universe that it would take several films to cover all of its treasures. My goal with this movie is not to convince existing fans that Dragonball is great, they already know this, but to give a new audience. More adults, as I was a neophyte myself before discovering the manga!”
And Tim Van Rellim gave some insight into what the set picture /Film posted was for.
“Here, we can build a large [volcano], including the decoration of the volcano where the hero must take one of seven Dragon Balls.” The crater is impressive, gigantic artificial arena. “By day, the volcano is nothing. But at night, the lighting for the scene takes it to another dimension.” And that’s not counting the digital special effects that will fill the green screen with lava.

even thought it pisses me off the movie isn’t complete shit. i see what there doing and understand it better now and im just glad to know that it could be much much worse. Im gonna give it a chance and see it atleast once.

The Japanese audience isnt too happy about this either, and thats their main audience right?…I mean if they are always advertising in Jump magazine quite a lot more than any american outlet i have seen.
And its not the roshi thing that pisses me off the most, the fact that the trailer makes it look like another generic kung fu movie made by so n so and not something actual fans of the series who havent watched/read dragon ball for a while would recognise right away….really just look at it…and i mean LOOK AT IT
Im kina double sided I love dragon ball dragon ball z gt and af and ive been waiting since for ever to see it in a non animation set (then again ive been waiting for ever to get casted as kid buu) any way i do want dragon ball to be a little more hard core like when buu blows up the whole d*%&n planet! But still so long as it has a faithful dragon ball story line and some kick A$$ fights im sure ill manage with the oh so many inacreases

Whose idea was it to THINK dragonball should be a “family” film. The cartoon is in no way family-esque. Don’t want to be a hater, but I think that is a stupid move. Hope it doesn’t work, they messed up the story.

This movie looks to be crap…goku is white, piccolo is a dehydrated alien, and roshi isnt the pervert we all know and love…how did this script even make it to the producers..I mean come on…I hope im not disappointed when i see this, but i most likely will be from the look of that trailer…maybe im speaking to soon but it looks like theyve ruined Dragon Ball for the future generations..just ruined it….

Do you see what was on the back of the Manga like the rating? It said FOR TEENS. But the director said his movie was going to be a family film so I guess his movie will be PG. But dragonball was NEVER a family show get it straight LADY.
@Jose Carlos: Um… Dragonball is a family show. It was rated PG here in the U.S. and was in Shonen Jump magazine (Shonen translates into “boy” in Japanese).

i dont want to sound like a hater but im hoping this movie comes out more than good, only because its DRAGONBALL Z!!!!! i’m watching the teasers over and over again and still im thinking this is going to turn out bad. example : its dragonball why is goku grown up??? I have this sudden gut feeling that this totally awsome concept is foing to turn into the sequal to first power rangers movie…. dang i really had my hopes up. the trailer was really lame. Like Jackie Chan’s The Tuxedo lame. if you know what i mean. I mean seriously, as an aspiring filmamker i could go all day about how adapting something like this would have to take extra love an care…kinda like 300 and watchmen, and batman, you know other wise it’s going to turn into this super crappy familly film that fox just had to make in order to keep the rights to it…it makes me sad to see people throw cool ideas away and delude them…

but the whole reason this movie was going to be live action is because the fans wanted it to be real but now the movie is going to be made for people who dont know about dbz and if they know that dbz exists they still havent seen the anime and all its cool action and adventer so it sucks that wong isnt trying to make the movie as close as he can get it to the anime OH AND IF WONG SEES THIS I WANT HIM TO KNOW THAT ALOT OF PEEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE MAD IF THE MOVIE DOSNT GET CLOSE TO THE ANIME THAT MEANS THAT IF THEY GET MAD MONEY GETS LOSED AND THATS THE TRUTH
