Dragonball at Brand Licensing Europe

September 25th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

We just got confirmation from FOX that they “will be presenting the movie during Brand Licensing” in London. What exactly they will be showing hasn’t been revealed, though there is plenty of speculation. All we know for certain is that Dragonball will be presented.

A forum member posted that a video game, manga, and animated show based on the movie was announced in the 2009 Fox prospectus, but this is only a rumor.

The film is in final stages, 90 minutes long, likely PG-13, first in an on-going series. Major video game adaptation out next year, leading comic book company publishing new manga series based on movie. New animated television series in development.

Regardless, we should know what truly is in development soon. The expo takes place October 1st-2nd, and the official website can be found here.

    HHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WAS FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I am truly disapointed with the running time. You’d think that with all the time before release daythey would try to insert as much material as they could

  3. September 25th, 2008 at 20:46 | #3

90 minutes isn’t bad at all.

  4. September 25th, 2008 at 20:48 | #4

    90 minutes isn’t confirmed, though it’s realistic…

1 and 1/2 for a fox movie is actually pretty good. We’re lucky it’s that long to be honest.

And personally, as much as I would like a 2-hour DB film, I’d rather save that for the second or third, where there’s more plot and fights to cover.

    Video Game and manga- awesome

Cartoon Series- also cool, but I wonder, will it be an american-made series, or something from Bird Studios?

    September 25th, 2008 at 20:51 | #6

@dukemon22: I agree with the run time. It is not bad, it is actually ok, but for the hype and all I just wished it was longer 1:20 would be perfect for me.

“New animated television series in development.”

8O That has got to be the single dumbest idea I have heard.

  8. September 25th, 2008 at 20:57 | #8

    Guys. It says rumor.

    September 25th, 2008 at 20:57 | #9

Hmm…lately some of the news is a little bit disappointing but now i guess im good because now that i think about it i guess im excited because im looking for something new in the dragonball universe and this is exactly it. I just hope that the performance of each actor is deasant and well i think chatwin is good goku, and well if the rumor is true than to me a 90 minute movie is good as long as it is pg-13, well just have to wait and see. Hopefully the animated series, if made is made by a decent company hopefully japanese based. Not like the clone wars i thought that was terrible, the cartoon series that is.

    September 25th, 2008 at 20:59 | #10

wow that sounds horrible. not the movie, but all of the following.

”Major video game adaptation out next year, leading comic book company publishing new manga series based on movie. New animated television series in development.”

i f’ing knew they’d turn this into its own animated series…….dont like the idea of that at all or anything that was stated above.

regardless of that crappy stuff there. Heres hoping we get to see some footage/trailer next wednesday/thursday on oct 1st or 2nd

Is FOX gonna FINALLY deliver something to us? lol

    “new animation series in development”

does that mean that anime series will make a comeback????

  13. josh1122
    September 25th, 2008 at 21:01 | #13

@jesusjuice: no, it means it will be a crappy american made cartoon(yes im american but i hate our cartoons) based on the DB storyline from the movie.

  14. SomeOne
    September 25th, 2008 at 21:02 | #14

    @Devilman:
Agreed. No one can replace the original. I bet that it wont be anime either. I bet that it will be one of those cartoons where the characters are all squared and stuff. I hate that look.

  15. September 25th, 2008 at 21:03 | #15

Ha, can’t wait till the first and second, hopefully we’ll get a trailer.

    September 25th, 2008 at 21:03 | #16

Wow, I’m disappointed in the run time, it should be longer then that. Oh, and what about this new animated series, is it even going to be Japanese animated? You should all know that if they want to do it right, they need Akira Toriyamas aid and true japanese art style. I guess we’ll see what happens. Only time will tell, I’m a true long time fan that would like to just have them show as much respect to the original as possible. I’m sure this movie is going to be tight. It should be considering the budget and stuff. I’m looking forward to it, hopefully it turns out tight. I’m pretty sad though to see that sayajins don’t have tails and Lord Piccolo isn’t green, aren’t al namiks green? Hopefully the sequel Dragon Ball Z will be more true to the original.

  17. September 25th, 2008 at 21:04 | #17

And here we begin a WHOLE new tirade of 200 comments of “how DARE they do anything new with MY favorite series!”

Get over it. They’re allowed to do whatever they want. We might finally somehow get some movie footage out of this in one way or another.

    September 25th, 2008 at 21:12 | #22

WOW!! I am beyond ecstatic about this news! Sure more than half of the piss poor whiners on here are going to complain ooohhh noooo….booohhhooooo they’re going to ruin dragonball!!!! listen!!! if you are a TRUE fan then nothing can ever ruin dragonball for you. The more publicity this movie gets the better.

  23. josh1122
    September 25th, 2008 at 21:13 | #23

@Seattle Ivory: It’s not a movie, its a short anime film and as far as i know its only one and so far only for Japan. But I’m sure youll see it subbed and spread all over online when it arrives

    @SomeOneWhoEmulates: It’s Fox. You thought it’d be longer? =/

  26. josh1122
    September 25th, 2008 at 21:17 | #26

@kaiokenx10: Well I’m not whining. I don’t like the idea of a crappy animated series based on the movie/comic book based on it. But doesn’t ruin the DB franchise for me. Won’t ruin the movie for me either because I’m not even bothering with the animated series/comic book.

I’ll just pretend they never happened and ill be content with just the movie lol.

90 minutes is decent, id rather it be at least over 2hrs but oh well, save the 2nd movie DBZ for 2hrs or more. God knows we want a long fight with Goku vs Vegeta if hes in the DBZ related movie :)

  27. September 25th, 2008 at 21:19 | #27

    @jesusjuice:

It would be soo coul that you took a picture of that poster ;)

    September 25th, 2008 at 21:20 | #28

Many of you aren’t paying attention that Adam clearly stated that the “video game, manga, and animated show based on the movie ” is still a rumor. A lot of you are acting as if it were fact. So its fine to express your opinions as long as your aware that its still just a rumor (So there’s no reason to start bashing Fox or whoever for these “supposed” developments).

    September 25th, 2008 at 21:21 | #29

90 mins is probaly about right for a 100 million budget. It costs more for a longer movie believe it or not.

  30. September 25th, 2008 at 21:26 | #30

I hope someone from London go to the licensing expo anda can tell us what will be showing there of the movie, and pics :D

    September 25th, 2008 at 21:26 | #31

@Craig: lol no shit. it was stated above and by adam himself. That’s why I stated above ”and yeah im aware that its a rumor like adam says. just a really really really bad one if true” :P

but i agree, its a rumor. which I think the video game portion and series based on the movie is true. just seems like it would be

lol I love it. A movie based on an animated series, to have an animated series made based off the movie… wait, wtf?
Personally, if one truly is made, it’s by people who at least try to mimic japanimation in america. the Avatar series is a good example. It could also work if it’s not a series, but more of a “Years between Dragonball and Dragonball 2″ thing. Someone suggested the red ribbon army? A Oren Ishii animation segment from kill bill type is what I mean.

If there is indeed a new animated series, it’ll probably take place between the first and second film (kinda like what they did with “Spider-Man: The New Animated Series”).

But I would DEFINETLY buy the manga and game.

  46. September 25th, 2008 at 22:03 | #46

The new serie based on the movie would be something like this.

Goku the unpopular kid of the school is in love with chichi his friend of all his life, soon they meet a popular girl called bulma. They star an adventure to find the seven dragon balls and blahblah xD

I’m not against a new animated series, but what will it be about? Goku’s descendants, remake of the original? why don’t they just retool samurai girl into dragonball the series? Have all the cast do a live action show. Make it so numba one!
