First Dragonball Review?
Aint it Cool News reader Don sent in a review for a supposed early cut of the film. It contains spoilers if legitimate, but honestly it sounds like something anyone could have made up.
I am a huge fan of your site and constantly visit here but this will be my first time emailing you about something. I love geek movies because there is nothing better than a well made geek movie. Well after watching the 95-100 minutes (excluding credits) of the movie i say this movie was solid. Ya you heard that right. I simply love the anime but I was very very nervous about it being made by fox. After all the studio has been making nothing but shit lately. Another reason why I was worried about this movie is that the director is James Wong who made final destination 1 & 3 and The one starring Jet Li. What I watched had unfinished sfx and with no scoring done yet. Also… they will be adding one or two scenes which will be shot sometime end of october.
Now let me list the positives of this movie
1) Action – I wasn’t expecting the action scenes to be as awesome as they were. Simply put the best thing about this movie. The last action scene of Goku vs. Picollo are simply amazing and when picollo takes out his huge fucking ass sword with weird rectangle shape tablet attached it at the tip of sword and slamming it on goku was fucking awesome. Lot of blowing shit up, super cool flying scenes, awesome ki blasts. This fight scene was around 13-15 minutes long. There are other small action scenes that are fun and entertaining with slo mo but nowhere as good as the picollo vs. goku scene.2) James Marsters as Picollo was awesome. He was perfect as picollo. Very mean and a villain that makes you say fuck ya kick all their asses. Oh and Picollo transforms into a light greenish color picollo towards the end of the movie.
3) Justin Chatwin as Goku. This guy surprised me a lot. I really didn’t like him when they casted him as goku but he did a damn good job in the acting department and he nailed the KAMEHAMEHA line.
4) Oozaru – the giant monkey is in the movie. Goku turns into a 8-9 feet tall giant baboon when he looks at the moon. It was awesome looking though a bit CGI. Maybe they will fix it later.
5) Emmy Rossum as Bulma- She was really really good in this role. I liked how she never acted like a wimpy girl and eventhough she knows she can’t win against the evil forces yet she kicks ass. A strong female role I will say.
6) Fullum Assasins – I thought adding these monsters were bad idea but they were pretty damn cool and there was an enitre scene where Goku and his friends fight these monsters and that fight scene was pretty damn good.
7) Joon Park as Yamcha was pretty cool. His acting was spot on like the character and they showed some cool fighting techniques of his. The fight scene between him and goku was good.
Negatives
1) Story – Dragonball fans will be dissapointed with some of the changes they have made with stories and characters etc. Krillin isn’t in the movie, Tien isn’t in the movie too. High school setting for the first 22-23 minutes was so not needed but ah well typical hollywood garbage of adding bullshit like that.
2) Jamie Chung as Chi Chi – Ya this was another casting i didn’t like and my worst fears came true. Her acting is as bad as Jessica Alba’s in F4 movies but thankfully her screentime isn’t that big. I really wished they could have tried harded to find someone else. I hope for sequel she can improve if there is one of course.
3) Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi – I was dissapointed with this. I wanted the fucking perverted roshi who fucking grabs breasts and asses like in the anime but alas all of that is fucking gone. Also he acted like Mr. Kesuke Miyagi. You know what I mean. The lines he spoke were fine but I felt he was uncomfortable in the movie. Very dissapointed.
4) Shenron the dragon – Ah another huge dissapointment. This is like sentinel in X3 all over again. FUCK FUCK FUCK you fox. So ya they get all the dragonballs and the dragon appears but the dragon is hiding behind fucking clouds and you only see his shadow. The voice of the dragon was provided by none other than Christopher Sabat who provided the voice for the dragon in the american version of the anime. When the dragon spoke it was chilling but damnit it was hiding behind clouds. One can hope they will fix this but chances of that are very slim.
5) Eriko Tamura as Mai was underused character and frankly speaking if that is what their intention was to underuse her then they might as well have not added this character and just added more picollo. Her moments were cool and she basically was there to show her nice boobies but ya she was kinda wasted.
Overall, I would give the movie a 6.5/10 simply because i was expecting disaster but it turned out better. The positives I mentioned coupled with some cool funny goku moments like eating a massive turkey etc. were hilarious. If only Master Roshi was perverted and Shenron was visible I would have given this 9 but ah well they messed up there. Hopefully they will fix shenron as they still have 5 months to movie’s release but if not then well fuck you to fox and james wong. But in all seriousness I am glad it aint the disaster I thought it would be. Hopefully you guys will post this. Thank You.

I know the Ki blast are gonna be good and the fighting at least decent.
but there have been and WILL be many good movies with flying energy blasting characters.
I wanna see the atmosphere, attributes, personalities of Dragonball in unison with the superficial stuff.

This guy is fake, there are videos to the movie already showing Shenron’s full body ready to take a wish, shows him flying through the air and everything, I’m surprised none of you took time to search and see them on Myspace, Youtube and whatnot.

That would be stupid if they didnt show shenron considering they had a decent dragon design in “dragon wars”. yes, I know the movie sucked but the dragon was awesome.

Not having Krillin was a big mistake, not having Tien is still forgivable. And I still believe that the High School scene is nothing but a waste of time and it’s gonna cost the movie a lot of fans and many thumbs down.

I just found out about this movie tonight and saw the trailer. I’ve read through everyone’s comment but know one seemed to mention that Piccolo is not even green?!?!?!WTF?!?!?!?! And I think Goku look’s kinda gay. Wtf is up with da hair?! I’ve heard nothing about Krillin being in the movie either? Yamcha is a main caracter? What about Tien? This guy is a fake. His comments don’t sound like anyone from the production would leak as a marketing trick. Also, the whole production is under NDA of course and no employees would risk his/her own job for leaking some info like this.
Don’t trust this review. And the reshoots are going to be huge compared to what they want you to believe. Reshoots are needed when the first beta cuts of the movie have been assembled and a selected audience given score shows some flaws that need reshooting. The movie release is still far away and they have plenty of time to reshoot almost the whole movie with all new scenes for replacement.
The final movie will be a lot different thank any possible leaks anyway. And if they change a lot of scenes that means that the CGI will need to be different and need tweaking at the very least so another 4-6 months delay is always possible.
Don’t know whether to believe this review or not. Most of the Negatives are exactly what I’ve been saying and the positives-the major one being Piccolo…well, if he does turn ‘light green’ then thats an improvement. BUT.
This is not a movie about Dragonball, this is a movie that uses names, settings and devices of Dragonball and sticks in their own storyline.

All I am saying with this is that movies like: Double Dragon, Resident Evil, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter-where all the story is ‘an adaption’ of the ‘title’ never EVER prove to to be an overall sucess.
Oh and one more thing, the issue about the Kamehameha being done correctly, lets hope that its “Ka Me Ha Me Ha” instead of “Kame Ha Meha”.

LOLOL i dont visit the site for like a day n so much updates. this review cant be reliable as ppl b4 me have said, but sounds like it has a few ounces of truth most likely, ie the shenron hiding behind clouds and the whole high school parts. I’m looking forward to everything about this movie but what I’m mostly excited about is the fight between Goku and Piccolo. If this movie review is fake (I believe it is) then I hope that one thing is true about it and that is the fight scene is 13-15 minutes long as is as exciting as what Don makes it out to be.

Hey guys, huge DB fan. Looking over the reviews and all that. The movie isnt aimed for just us that look at the anime. Its aiming for everyone, so it would seem obivous that they would change it a bit. As long as they dont change the story line, im happy.
As Oozaru beeing only 8 or 9 feet sounds crap, i would expect it would be twice that.But hey you dont get everything you want, in the end we are just going to have to wait and see what happens.

Hi all db fan, i know a lot of people give a lot of comment and respond especially after watching the leaked teaser trailer.Then we all know that the upcoming trailer will soon publish on December 2008, so what we have to do is to wait for the trailer and the movie. Damn, I really hope the part about Shenron behind the clouds is false, because that would suck.
And as for Goku turning into an 8 Foot Ape…..Uggghhhh, I was expecting him to be a bit bigger.
All in all, I’ll give this review a 5/10, because some of it sounds believable, but other parts sound like this person just made it up/I don’t to believe is true.
I think the reviewer is being generous, simply because, as he said, he was expecting a complete disaster.
I wouldn’t doubt if it was a bit of a reaction-gauge leak also.
The Shenron thing though…why go to the trouble of the huge budget, hiring the voice actor, and then not even show the possibly most impressive thing about this film?

How in the hell can you have a Dragonball movie with out Shinron visable, or Krilin, or even Tien for that matter. How in the hell can you not have at least krilin in the movie. He has been in almost every episode since the 4th episode of dragonball. And then to make a dragonball movie with out being able to see shinron is almost not worth paying the money at the theater. Never-the-less I will be there on opening day, with low expectations.

Nowhere in my post did I say that swearing destroys credibility. If you’ll read more carefully, you’ll see that I said he sounds like a 12-year-old. People who consistently say “FUCK YA KICKASS YAAAAA” or similarly adolescent-inspired phrases are oftentimes morons, retards or children. All three of which are not very credible sources. Imagine that.
i think… some director will wake up and do a remake on the movie, like how they did on the hulk.. the hulk on the first one look so peacefull…. and not enough rage…
so hopefully some one will do a remake and make it even better.. to where theyll add krillin.. make master roshi a” a perveted old man”… and goku…. um… be goku… and a monkey should look like a monkey.. not a monster who look like it came out of the toilet…..
