Joon Park Interview
The Korean website Star News interviewed Joon Park (Yamcha) today, and we’ve got a translation.
I always wanted to be a Hollywood actor, because I’m not good at the Korean language for acting in a Korean movie.
Dragonball was my third audition in Hollywood. I went to the audition, and I was called up from the director to come audition again. When I went to audition again, there were actors who were well known in the U.S., so I had to fight them. I thought “Not a chance,” because I’m “God” in Korea, but a “shit” in the U.S. (laugh)
I entered the audition wearing a hat and shorts, and as soon as the director looked at me, he said “You are Yamcha.” I still can’t believe it. I won’t appear the first 25% of the movie, but I will later on.
I met Chow Yun-Fat for the first time when we traveled by helicopter. He was indeed a kind person. He was very friendly.
It isn’t easy to make a comic into a movie. It could have became too childish. So we were trying to maintain a middle ground. There will be a lot of CG in the movie. This is a family movie, so the shooting set was a very family-like atmosphere. “Speed Racer” was a very technical set, “Dragonball” set’s atmosphere was kind of like inviting staff to your home and having a barbecue.
Details of the movie are still a secret. It will be released on March 14th next year in South Korea and Japan for the first time in the world. Toys and video games will be released in the near future. My toys too. (laugh)

This is good! Well I found the way of Joon’s audition and him getting selected for Yamcha’s role pretty much interesting. But he looks kinda old for Yamcha, doesn’t he? Yamcha is supposed to be someone who is in his early 20’s. But Joon looks as if he is in his late 30’s.

Its Simple. The movie is FOX’s way to CAPITALIZE on the DB franchize by making a movie that will attract kids (”family movie”).
ALLLLLLL of the adaptations are to make….MONEY. and easy money too. What you thought this was LORD of the Rings? hahahha, no that was a REAL adaptation.
WHY?!! change the general atmosphere, attitudes, scenery, characteristics, and essense of everything in dragon ball except for the names, attacks, and 2 or 3 ITEMS???
The changes where unecessary…….watch the last DB animated film (Path to Power) it’s basically the manga in a movie abriged form……yeah away with the BS.
Cmon guys the movie is an INSULT. They had the ability but chose a generic high school hero movie for money.
It’s the 21st century…….FUCK 20th century FOX, get with the program it’s the 21st century………………you can TORRENT the movie when it comes out
but please MAKE THIS MOVIE FAIL AT THE BOX OFFICE……..they have a plan of worldwide release so the idea is to avoid sequels, because they WILL make the 100 million back, it will not fail fiscally.
IF and only IF it fails…….all i can say is two things: The Hulk (eric bana….failure) The incredible Hulk ( Edward Norton…cool)…………a DECENT movie depends on the failure of CRAP.
On the PLUS side……..it MAY come out on JAPAN first
meaning it will give plenty of time for evil TORRENTS to fly around and make it fail.
The movie will be on the ‘net the next day and un-subtitled by some IRC team in like 3 lol
Either way, ill wait for the movie to come out and sneak in to the theater (well my friend works there, so that technically isnt sneaking) and THEN i will TORRENT it.
