They never come right out and say that namecks are plant people.... BUT they DO live on a world with THREE suns.. and dont really need to eat solid food un less they have to.. Dende gives Gohan, Krillin and Bulma a break down of this at one point where they first meet. So im assuming they are some kind of instect or bug or, mollusk aliens that have the ablitiy to photo synthaize food.. if they choos to.. or like our friend Piccolo does, eat solid food on occasion. That being said.. i agreed with most of the other people here that have said this.. you stick a plant or a thing that has cloraphyill in it in the dark and guess what.. they turn yellow... Being as how our buddy here was stuck in a prayer urn for 2000 years.. he didnt have a chance to do either.. eat or photosyntasize in which case.. poor dude's gonna be yellow.
