Chris Sabat is Not Voicing Shenron

December 23rd, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

shenronKyle Hebert confirms via his blog that Christopher Sabat (the voice of Vegeta, Piccolo, and more in DBZ) will not be voicing Shenron in the live action movie, despite being listed on IMDB and other sites.

I ran into good ol’ Chris Sabat (DBZ director, voice of Vegeta, Yamcha, Piccolo, Mr. Pop, Shenron, etc) while I was recording at Funimation today and asked him since his name is listed on the movie’s credits on IMDB and numerous message boards have been buzzing about this for months. The answer, I was told, is no.

Who do you want to voice Shenron? Discuss on the forums!

I dont care really, shenron doesnt have a lot of screen time anyway (i guess) so its all OK. It would be a fan-service only, but not mandatory

@jroc da kid: The reason why they didnt make Master Roshi bald was because when he was bald in TPOTC. The people in Japan or China thought it was racist or stereotypical that a chinese/japanese old man was bald with a beard/mustache. So they chose not to make him bald with a beard. Maybe he’ll be bald in the next movie…..

    @lilb0y09:

I don`t beliebe in that reason, Japanese people, people around the world knows that Master Roshi has that details (bald, beard/mustache) and the censorship was in China, because the character from POTC reflected a negative image about chinese and singapur people (bald, with scars, evil). But Roshi is Good, he`s an adorable old man and of course, I DON`T REMEMBER THAT MASTER ROSHI FROM THE ANIME HAD BEEN CENSORED IN CHINA.

They’ll just use some good old actor for that role. If he does a good job I really don’t mind, but then again they could’ve think of Sabat’s performance in the anime

ugh… next person who says vin diesel gets hacked…
that guy has the acting talent of a rock.
as for chrissy, i always liked him as Vegeta, since that’s rly the only character that i insanely care about in dbz.
i think the movie will be fine (not great since it lacks the concrete balance of dysfunction brought to Z from Vegeta), as long as you pessimists stop trying to convince everyone that “it wil suk”, since you really have no basis behind your shat-theory.
they are trying to make it look “do-able” by today’s standards, not merely MIMIC the anime like most japanese live action films. so it won’t look like a carbon copy of a cartoon. if they wanted that, they’d go to Pixar.
and they just might give shenron to james marsters, since any kind of budget isn’t great these days.

In my opinion this movies is walkink the path to be a crap bacause is a bad adaptation of the anime and with the characters …………. why the main character, goku, looks more like one of HEROES instead of dragon ball? I don’t like to see this movie, it’s better if someone make another saga of the anime instead of this movie

This movie is the biggest joke about the Dragon Ball.

Frankly, after the movie being released, the number of fan suicides will increase drastically. I just wanna thx the fox for this uncool joke. And i thought that the DB movie would be directed by the wachowski brother, but no, it’s worst director ever the one who ruined Dead or Alive.

I don’t know what’s going on, but i think american are underestimating this japanese franchise. As if it’s not at the same level as Batman. But let the box office make them see what they’ve committed.
It remind a certain movie… hmmm street fighter maybe…

    FROM A FAN.

Maybe what this means is that they are taking the voice clips from the anime and just putting it into the movie.

  16. December 29th, 2008 at 00:00 | #16

i would not be mad if the person playin goku would have been gohan because he looks exactly like em if they had made goku look different and the kamehameha, i think the movie would have been a bit better and the way they fight in the anime is fast not like jackie chan or jet li i mean there great in all but just not for db u know what i mean, also the hits that the characters throw had to make a lot of impact u know cuz goku ’s powerful and does anyone know if they show that goku came from planet vegeta because thats a big part of this show

To be fair people need to remember that for one this movie is based on dragonball not dragonball Z, so anything to do with planet vegeta is completely irrelivent. the way they fight in Z is completely irrelivent. none of this is really discovered until the first saga of Z which this movie doesn’t even touch upon. tired of people saying omg why can’t they fly and omg where is vegeta, and most of all OMG why is piccolo evil they ruined it!
try actually knowing that there is more out there than Z before you start making crazy judgments about things they have left out that shouldn’t even be there

@jroc da kid: Are you sure she has blue hair?? How do you know it hasn’t been a wig all along? It kind of looks like a wig in the Anime to me. If it’s not a wig, how do you know that it isn’t blue to represent a coal black hair color? Haven’t you ever seen coal black hair? It has an amazing blue coloration to it. As for Piccolo’s coloration. You can’t tell me that after being cooped up all winter your color doesn’t fade some too! Besides Dende explained that the sun was very important to a Namek’s health. Why isn’t Kurilin or Krillin as some spell it, not shown? Well one of King Piccolo’s children kills him. I love springing that on the “true fan” proclaimers  around the net.
By the way, how do we know that Master Roshi didn’t keep his head shaved? Krillin did.

Here’s the real truth of it. Those that insist on coming to places like this to run it down, where the majority want to see a live action “Dragon ball”, are tolerant of change, not prejudge mental, are free of racial hang ups, unashamed that they like the show, and would recommend it to people that would never normally see it, aren’t really fans of the show or the property. I think your broken and need help. Why, you ask? Because you have the dreaded syndrome that unconsciously asks, “Why can’t everyone be more like me?” But really that doesn’t work either look at “Star Trek” TOS episode 20 “The Alternative Factor” yep I’m so like you I’ve become you, so now you want to kill me. :P

Wouldn’t it be such a laugh if someone like joe pasquale did the voice on shenron? Especially as everyone would be waiting for a deep voice, then you get a high pitched, comical genius throwing out lines.

Would never happen, but still you could imagine it =]

it doesn’t matter to me who does the voice as long they have a deep menacing voice. Besides, about the Shenron being hidden by clouds thing, the person saw the movie before they finished all the effects, so they more than likely fixed that by now and he’ll be shown.

I know exactly who should voice for Shenron.

Peter Cullen, the original voice of Optimus Pirime from the G1 series and the new movies.

Don’t believe me? Just picture Shenron saying “Your wish… is granted” in Peter’s voice.
