When Goku and Bulma were looking for the Dragonballs the very first time they came across a village terrified of a monster that stole thier daughters. Goku volunteers to defeat the monster long story short its just Oolong chape shifter into a giant pig monster thing.

@ec: Have you seen the documentary of army warfare, there pretty much wrestling while standing instead of on the ground, including flip moves, mix that with kickboxing which is pretty much what the russians do, and that is dbz, now i don’t know what your guys deal with the one, and the matrix fight scenes are, but this much is true, in the forbiddin kingdom just like the scenes in dbe, they always think that doing some weired aerol attack with the fighter gliding his feet to the target is cool, now if i was some immature kid watchin the movie and saw that, i would just grab his foot really really fast and punch him in the balls, and call him an emo. Why not have goku as an asian kid around the same age of anikan in starwars, its not that he needs to have spiky hair, you guys are missing the whole point of the hairdo in dbz, which is why you guys would make terible literature critics, let alone be anyone who produced oscar movies, gokus hair is a symbol for what he is, an unkept dirty little monkey boy, even in the anime bulma says he has a beared, the hair cut has nothing to do with trying to impress girls in highschool like this emo kid with combed back hair spikey hair, a nice collar shirt, and in highschool, no goku is quite litteraly a monkey in the anime, thats why he has the unkept jungle hair and the long tail, duh. and because its an anime i think they should of had a kid like the one in indiana jones with long really shaggy unkept hair, and had a serious action complex the movie would have been great, they could worry about his eyes in latter serie years with a half asian half white guy, like the guy who played lui kane in mortal kombat. thats why i hate this movie, cuz its plane to see that the people who made it didn’t even look twice, to see what made dragonball dragonball, instead they just took some people who had the facial structures of the characters and threw makeup on them, while the script which should have been about a young boy meeting a young girl, going and saving the world like a cool fantasy movie. they made a highschool musical even if they only spend 5 min in highschool, it sets the setting for the whole movie. I wish i could really produce this movie, its my favorate cartoon, and it is not getting any justice, in fact its being raped.

guys i have just seen a television problem here in greece with trailers and reviews about the upcoming 2009 films! they didn t have the dragonball movie! wtf, is going on with fox? when the promotion is gonna begin?

i like the draft, highschool scens are fine, they seem funny and informative, i really like stuff between goku and gohan. and we havent seen a tail from goku in this movie, i think he grows snd keeps it once it turns into oozaru

i wonder if he even has a tail, that and his hair is what defines him from being a human or a sayian. Its not that i hate this movie, what really ticks me off, is that they munipulated everything to be set as american and didnt even change the first name that defines the dragonball universe so that others who want to stay true to the script in the near future, like me, cant attract the real db fans cause id have to name it completely something else. and fyi fish, its not the eyes that define his character, its his character which they have already failed to caputre, by school-a civilized i just want to be normal, kindof kid, fyi goku is not a kid who wants to be average n has no idea what the world is about thats what makes a character that you cant put your finger on cause something is alien about him and his grandpa knows why, clothing- middle class teenager with a plad shirt n polo underneath and jeans, hairstyle-greesed back spikes, role-the choosen teenager in school tryin to impress the girls. Thats like trying to take the jesus story and saying what if he had a brother and was in an army, it completely distorts the story, get what im saying. honestly I don’t know why the posters on here call themselves db fans when they completely overlook everything that is not db about this movie. I want them to stop production of it, so that real fans who intend on making the movie right, can use the name and attract all the real fans who know what the name dragonball is all about.

DBZ is the most popular of the series and they obviously wanted to hit the ground running. A lot of DBZ fans don’t like DB, they THINK it’s childish. So for sure, the target audience are the DBZ fans.

The sub title says it all, this was never gonna be a carbon copy. Personally myself….I don’t want to be watching a PG DB movie with a scruffy mop haired kid running around then flying on a cloud….it’s all well and good in a manga or an anime but…It’s just wrong for live action. Got bomb written all over it IMO.

I’m not saying Wong’s DB will be the best movie of the year but it will certainly make more money. As much as I’d like to believe they were solely thinking of us when developing the movie, it’s not true. Who, other than DB fans would go watch a lil kid fly on a cloud and do battle with a lil green guy, in a universe where canine’s run the world? Or how about a big green guy kickin’ the crap out of an 11, 12 yr old kid lol…Maybe that I wouldn’t mind seeing for helluba, but it’ll never happen.
The movie isn’t being made JUST for us.

@goku34: I speak on behalve of all the real dbz fans, if something was made in stone, then reproduced in paper, its said to be an immitation but never the original story, even if it has a little word difference, but when something is made with a little distortion of narration the story dosent hold up in its literary elements, thus it is not the same story and the title should not be applied, if you clam to truely love dragonball then you wont take any distortions as a supplement of the original. If I was the maker of this movie, just like that lawfirm case of bratz against barbie( I am not a fan but this is just an example), I would sue fox for all it has, for trying to emulate a lesser crapier story of my work of art for trying to get rich off of cheeply broadcasting my work. its another thing if they sold it as a more real form of my work, cuz that would be flatering, but this is just another example of being jewed, sorry for useing that word but its true. I guess my new name for all these db fan wanna bes is the db clueless post original fans or dbcpo fans, you know the fans that only like the db univers after it has been distorted and referbished to tell a more relating anglo saxon story of the original instead of all things asian(anime).

You know, whenever i think about the Anime, it seems like a completely different world than the movie, like the two are seperate universe, but I don’t have a problem with calling Chatwin Goku. It just feels right. In fact, sometimes, when I think about Dragonball, I don’t even really remember the Anime. It seems like Goku has always been this White kid with spiky hair who went to Highschool. And sometimes, when I look at a picture of Anime Goku, I think, “Wait. This guy’s not Goku, Chatwin’s Goku.” So it feels like Chatwin and Goku are two seperate person, but they’re actually the same guy. Weird, I know. Anyone else feel like this?

@Devilman: Dude I completely agree, things cant be the exact same they just cant. And in all honesty iam glad its not, I love DBZ and its the best for what it is, but it just cant work on the big screen.

I personaly will be first in line at the local theatre on April 8th, dang its so close.

first of all you guys suck, and im not just saying that cuz your all gaining up on me, im saying it cuz you guys are actually falling for this movie, which is a reincarnation of both the forbidding kingdom, and power rangers, and if you say that they couldnt make the movie exactly like db or better, then I guess the whole starwars saga and superman saga was impossible. That same outlook was what bush developed the economy and his reign over, thats why america is falling behind just as this movie will. Im just waiting for the principles of obama to kick in and rekindle both the entertainment industry as well as mainstreet.

what are you talking about star wars was a original movie it isnt based off of anything, and spiderman is very different from the comics.

starwars was based off legends , king arther,samuris, westerns ect pretty much george took all childhood heroic icons and merged it into a space opera then went down hill after jedi.

When the film got to the blood and guts, this big strapping guy went into a seizure and passed out. It was so bad, the class was evacuated, ambulance, the whole Magilla. I later heard that the guy had had a truck tire blowout near him, and he had suffered head trauma, years before this classroom incident. Kind of like a ticking time bomb.

@GutterBall: Several possibilities come to mind. First, the publication on the net might interfere with contractual agreements with fanzines or other news outlets respecting exclusivity. Two, the theatrical cut may not be finalized. Sometimes movies go into extended audience testing. If their is internal conflict on what to leave in or leave out that could hold up promotion. One thing I have to say about the critics, they in my opinion, know something of Fox’s troubles. It’s well known they haven’t had a movie break $100Mil. domestically in quite awhile. Having spent $100 million, I would at least want to double my money on a world wide release of any kind. Personally, I didn’t like how they handled “The Day The Earth Stood Still” and have yet, bothered to see it. Reports are that it cost around 80 million to make and has made over 200 million world wide thus far. Not bad for a similar beloved property that a number of people on the net despised even the idea of a remake. Don’t think “DBE” has anything to worry about. Everyone wants to forget their troubles these days. For the next couple of years, making a movie, may actually be the easiest way to make a buck..

@haqq: Um Jesus had brothers. They were step brothers but brothers all the same. While I’m talking Christianity, why don’t you visit a couple of sites of different denominations and talk to them about different versions of the Bible? You’ll get ears and eyes full. Look at the upside, maybe we’ll get the Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John versions of “Dragon Ball?” Those 4 books about Jesus, have pretty much the same story. Why do you think they were all included in the Bible? Shouldn’t one have been enough?

Let me ask you a question haqq, where is the fun in your idealized “Dragon Ball” movie?? Why couldn’t I just go buy the Anime? Why would I want to see your idealized movie? I already own it! I own a few dozen movies and have one, maybe two remakes. I think I’m the average consumer. The ones I own both versions of, are different enough and fun enough to make me want to own them. If your not like that, that’s OK, but It’s not superior in my eyes and I don’t see a compelling reason to change my mind about that.

I remember in the English dub he said something like, quote; ” I haven’t done this in a long time.” Then he split the energy into two and formed a Kamehameha from each hand!

i think fox is crazy but still, after looking at the new trailor i think itll be a 7/10ish, i reckon if you are a true dragonball fan you will probably still enjoy it reguardles of the things that theyve done to the story, its sad to see a classic cartoon of my age group being ripped apart as “some hollywood fatcat” sees fit, but at the same time itll still be a nice movie i think. as much as i enjoyed foxes movies in the past im wondering weither they are being to controling in the way they make movies now, is it really neccessary to change things as much as they do, seems to me if they were good at doing there jobs they could make anything into an awesome thing to watch, oh well my 2c i guess
