Justin and Emmy Interview
Justin Chatwin (Goku) and Emmy Rossum (Bulma) were interviewed by Sankei Shinbun, a Japanese newspaper. We’re once again provided with a translation.
“There are a lot of Dragonball fans all over the world. I was always thinking what the fans were thinking, I felt responsibility,” said Chatwin, who was chosen as Goku, with a serious face.
“He totally devoted himself to practice the role, so when he stepped into a dangerous area, no one could approach him,” said Rossum. Chatwin responded with a joke, “I was thinking it was my mission to fight against the bad guys of Mexico City.”
“Dragonball” tends to be thought of “for kids,” but Chatwin says “the movie is the story of Goku coming to be a warrior. It will be enjoyable for both children and adults, even non-fans.” Rossum adds, “The movie is also devoted to the adult fans who grew up with Dragonball.”
orale!!!
Second!
woohoo
lol jk. This interview shows how much he took the role seriously
Lol, Chatwin is full of win
i love that. how he took the role seriously and felt like he could take on anyone including the dodgy guys in mexico. chatwin is gunna nail it, sweet!!!
Thanks for the update, it’s little but it’s still good.
i think we all know that chatwin would make a better adult gohan then young adult goku.
i’m still gonna see and love this movie when it comes out.
Awesome! I like this interview more than the others.

Chatwin: This is my Serious Face
not really anything we haven’t read before. But any news is good news
Thanks Adam. Appreciated.
I like that he said that the adult fans will like it and it’s not just a “kid” thing.
chatwin would make a perfect gohan but he is goku and im ready for this movie so bring it on
This u guys shows his seriousness for this role! And it’s for the fans
That is awesome.
*Imagines*
Lady: Do You know where…
Justin: DYE SAIBAMAN! KIAOKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lady: OH SHI-!
@Inu:
i second that
I don’t care what anyone says. Chatwin, IS Goku. Whenever I see him Goku just pops up in my mind. Glad to know he worked hard on it. And what a relief knowing that this movie wasn’t only intended for kids
everyone is all syked out about justin chatwin being goku…..I must admit….I still dont feel he was the best choice…every movie he’s been in he’s been the quiet EMO kid…He’s never shown us his goofy/funny side in any movie he’s done….as a matter of fact….he has barely even smiled….ever…..even in allllll the pictures you see of him offset…and i’m not talking about those half smiles or “look at me im sexy smile”….im talking a BIG ASS LOOK AT ME IM GOKU SMILE!!…..overall its just a “meh” for me with him being goku…gotta agree he would’ve made a better adult gohan…….Anywho back to why i started typing in the first place….I AM SUPER STOKED TO SEE JAMES MARSTERS AS PICCOLO!!!!!!! TO ME PICCOLO IS 10x COOLER THAN GOKU ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
@RJ: lol haha
I have no doubt, Chatwin is Goku!!
Woah…I know IMDB isn’t that reliable but it says that Ron Relman (Hellboy) was offered Piccolo’s role but turned it out, and they were considering Tom Welling (Smallville) for Goku before Chatwin auditioned. What a trip. And Some guy from Heroes tried out for Yamcha but didn’t get the part.
Yeah chatwin is going to be awesome goku and Kaiokin I dont really seeing it being chatwins fault in those movies he had an emo look. He didnt direct the movie he didnt come up with story line he just acted and if you or anyone thinks he looks emo so far in DB then your idiots thats to put it nice. Aslong as he can have funny moments and add the funny side to goku I have no doubt he has the alwaya ready to fight goku down I think he’s a great actor he just needed the opprutunity to prove himself and in DBE he will prove that.
Tom welling is Clark kent! He will always be known as Clark kent. Justin was chosen for a reason and even after he says how dedicated he was u all are still talking as if he was not good enough! We seen few scenes of goku in the movie and u can’t decide whether he was a good goku or not. Just wait till the film to place judgements on him, but by other casts reaction to his enthusiasm in his role he did really good
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1956628/
this guy did stunts in DBE, i wonder whose stunt double he was?
CHATWIN is the BEST GOKU there is!!
Chatwin was born to be GOKU.
I like how Mr. Chatwin said….
“It will be enjoyable for both children and adults, even non-fans.†-GOkU
LOL…more like “This is my serious face”
J/K. Awesome interview. I’m getting pumped!! And i hope this thread doesn’t get haters talking crap and then fans talking crap back until it all becomes a giant crapfest. PlZ!!!
Mr Chatwin… we as fans, put our faith in you. Do not let us down.
@that guy: From the looks of him, I would say he was yamchas stunt double. I know he’s black but he has the same body style and kinda looks like Joon Park in a way.
Aww..
Some of those comments make the Great Vegeta want to cry.
regarding the plot and storyline…i really don’t know in what percentage does the movie target the adult group….Being 21 and having most of my friends over 22 i have to say that a story with a ‘highschool’ plot isn’t something that really brings out enthusiasm if u get what i mean….this thing has become stereotipical and it seems lots of movies tend to use it…..unless they want to draw a crowd of highschool fans…besides the gohan going to school episodes…dagonball before that had almost nothing to do with highschools…it was about adventure and survival…just remember the bunch of scenes with goku fishing…hunting..surviving..etc…furthermore i doubt that besides grownups who grew up watching db and those who will go with their kid to the movie…there will not be any other adults going to see it. This is a movie that based on the plot will bring a lot of old fans to the screen who will enjoy it or be dissapointed, lot of kids because it’san action movie…and a whole lot of highschool kids. There are a lot of countries over the world were young people never heard of db or they have only a vague impression of it so when the highschool kid sees the trailers…’kid from school…doesn’t fit in…has super powers…fights evil..saves world’…cooooooool i’ve got to see this… This is what fox is trying to catch
ps….i’m not a hater…i love dragonball and dragonballz…and i’m actually looking forward to the movie…i just don’t think so that getting an adult crowd is a goal of this movie….and let’s face it…the only action movies that have really hit it big time were those which tried to do this…highschool plot isn’t a good recipy for this….you need a plot that has deep sentimental values(not romantic rubbish)…themes that really make you think and contemplate….and if you come to think about it dragonball and goku have these themes…you just have to use them…goku is more than superman or a superhero…throughout the episodes we see that goku is a complex character with the greatest human values that a gould person could have…let’s hope the directors considered this…..and we will see the funny and happy goku…who respects life and every other human being…who is actually a great role model…..
Lets just hope this fufills all aspirations we have for a Dragonball Movie, and does not epicly fail.
also in regards to b, i also hoped it would of been set like goku fishing or doin something incredible like catching a gigantic fish and saying “its nothing really just a small one” or something along those lines. i was also looking forward to seeing the Dragonball Universe on the big screen dinosaurs , aliens, hybrids and animal people [oolong] and all.
But all i can hope for now is that they stay true in most parts to the Legend that is Dragonball. /sighz
@b: if you know so much about marketing movies, why arnt you rich
@that guy: actually i don’t know much about marketing movies….but i do know some about marketing and i know a lot about what peolpe in my agegroup ore above expect from a good movie…
ps: i’m not gonna be personal with anyone…all i did was post my opinion about the movie…so i would respect if you’ve got some problems with what i said …post your own opinions and debate them as a normal person…attacking me shows only that you’ve got no other better thing to think of besides attacking my person…if u have different views…i will repect them and i could probably debate them…but will not attack one’s person
@Vegeta: I remember the first time that I cried when I saw Dragonball Z.
It was when Vegeta died by the hands of Freeza. I remember it like it was yesterday, I remember those last few words the Prince of all Saiyans said….
“He took me from my Father when I was just a little boy. He made me do whatever he wanted and said he would Kill my father, if I didn’t! I did everything he asked, but he killed him anyways”
-Vegeta
When he said that, I was like WHOA!!
Vegeta did alot of Evil things to us on the planet Earth, but when I heard Vegeta pouring his heart out to us on the screen, I felt his pain!
I FELT HIS PAIN!!!!
I began to understand why he is the way he is. I felt sorry for him for the first time. Watching Freeza strike him across his heart with that Laser Beam made me want to cry. Seeing Goku humble himself and comfort Vegeta through his dieing hour made me see how good of a person Goku is. This is why im so excited to see Chatwin bring Goku to life. Goku is my favorite superhero!!
Alot of people think Justin Chatwin has big shoes to fill, but I don’t!!
I think Justin Chatwin is born to be GOKU.
When I saw him in the “Invisible” he reminded me so much of Goku. We are Blessed to have him!
Chatwin always puts on his Gameface when he acts, but I don’t think he has to for Dragonball, because he looks and acts so much like Goku!!
Chatwin even thinks like Goku off camera
Read what he says
“I was thinking it was my mission to fight against the bad guys of Mexico City”
Nice interview. I like how Chatwin says he was in-character when going out to the dangerous places of Mexico city!
can you imagine in the second movie, if the actor playing Vegeta will be acting like Vegeta, even off camera?????? …sweet
