lol, Inuyasha as Goku…or is it Inu Yasha…Inu-Yahsha? Anyway, Chatwin said he wasn’t much of a DB fan but got the role because it was like playing Superman and that he was also happy to play in a movie with someone from Ghostbusters, which he is also a fan of. That’s what he said in that magazine on db la pelicula website or whatever it’s called. No surprise there.

@DPA: for all we know, he could be just transforming to ozaru, and his eyes can turn red later,,, you only see a split of a second there, so…

    and it looks quite promising

.. Why aren’t they using the real voices? :| They have them all right there, I haven’t heard of anything happening to Miss Nozawa or anyone else. It doesn’t make sense. At least they’ve got one Dragonball VA in the narrator….

I wish they would use the original seiyu from the series, but they probably didn’t want to do it.

I’m REALLY glad they aren’t using the voice actor from the Japanese anime for Goku, his (her?) voice is really high pitched.

  20. February 2nd, 2009 at 21:33 | #20

@Velasa: Like Gaijin said, most of them probably don’t want anything to do with this movie and rightly so.

  23. February 2nd, 2009 at 23:15 | #23

I think Aya Hirano’s best known as Haruhi Suzumiya from, well, Haruhi Suzumiya!

@Velasa: It’s possible they were busy with other commitments. Surely that was the case with some of them. More questions for future threads. Kind of interesting that they tapped all Anime talent. Would have loved to have sat in on that casting session just to hear the tonal efforts to balance the voice with the characters.

While the absence of Masako Nozawa is no doubt a blow for longtime fans, I’m not at all surprised that shes not on board given her reaction to the film. Besides, this is a new take on the story, so its only fitting that they have a mostly brand new cast.

    So many famous dubbers!!!!

I’m sad to see that the originals are not there… Of course, they are getting old. Toshiro Furukawa can’t really sound like Piccolo anymore, his voice got too raspy. He would have done fine for Old Piccolo, but not if they were planning on turning him young again like in the original story. It really makes me sad…

Haha Kappei Yamaguchi also does L from Death Note. He’s awesome!

@ImpulseKid86: I don’t remember hearing comment from her… where could I find that?

The thing I was looking most forward to on this movie would have been watching it in Japanese with the real cast, so hearing thisis a pretty heavy disapointment.

And Takashidaimao- o_o What? I never heard that either- that breaks my damn heard, I adore that man’s voice…. I don’t remember if Pic had any lines in the new DB special that came out a few months ago, but if he did nothing struck me as off….

How is the voice of Hochu Ôtsuka? I was hoping Jouji “George” Nakata as Piccolo

    @ Velasa

I read a report on Daizenshuu EX about the Jump Festa and Japan’s reaction to the movie. Piccolo got laughed at, as did the scene of Goku prepping the Kamehameha.

As for Nozawa herself, she thought it was odd that “Goku is a hunk and Yamcha is a bumpkin”, when it “should be the other way around”. She also talked smack about the English pronounciation of Kamehameha, saying that in Japan they emphasize either the first Ka or the last Ha, but in America they emphasize the first Me which “just makes it sound way off”.

However, she was pleased that Japan was getting the film first because “Dragon Ball belongs to Japan”

    There’s a narrator? This is certainly new…

I hope it’s doesn’t dictate EVERY event in the film though.
