    I see too many ppl complaining about ratings… who cares its a PG movie.. just because of a rating doesnt mean its still a lame movie.. if it was PG-13 ppl where gonna be ‘ooohh ahhh bla bla bla’ and yet the movie is still the same… PPL get over it, this movie is supposed to be accessable for everyone and not to please the fans with lame-ass ratings…

    @Inu:
    If they rate the next one if it happens from the box office success rated R, that is ridiculous. They won’t get children to watch that kind of rating. That won’t be right. :x

    Look this is a smart move for fox, look at star wars films (except episode 3) they were violent, and arms got chopped off and stuff, and those were awesome movies, now dragonball: reborn will probably get a pg-13 rating because of vegeta and some other stuff. Just leave rated pg-13 or R to the death note remake next year (for you who didn’t know) 8)

    Anyone who doesnt agree with this rating needs to reconsider and “think”, Dragonball(especially) in america has never been anything but PG. If it was rated anything over that of PG it wouldnt have been shown on cartoon network or any other younger veiwing channels for kids to watch.
    And even it was, it would say “veiwer disgression is advied”…which it doesnt.
    The rating is actually very acccurate.

    Plus even though the rating is PG im sure we will still see some action that’s close to, or is that of PG-13 material.

    8)

    I’m glad its a PG, i mean there are going to be kids who want to watch this film!! i remember when spiderman came out it was a 12, and there was uproar by parents who had kids who wanted to see the film, so they invented the rating 12A (UK equivelent of the US PG-13). I want to take my little brother to see this hes very excited about watching it! so the fact that it is a PG doesn’t bother me much, and James Wong said he wanted a wider audience, Parents are more likely to take there younger ones to a PG than a PG-13/12A…

    PG? What?! Hopefully it has enough action in it. PG-13 would be the best for this type of movie.

    You’re absolutely right there. People need to accept a PG rated film like this. Besides there are a lot of PG blockbuster movies out there.

    you guys, 80 minutes isn’t really a bad thing
    i mean
    some really great movies were 80 minutes
    toy story was only 70 minutes
    enough said

    well maybe not the best example since that was an animated movie, but it was still a great movie nonetheless
    As long as the fight between piccolo and goku is around 15 minutes, i’ll be just fine

  23. February 19th, 2009 at 17:00 | #23

    @dlo2010: it’s 100 minutes not 80.

    honest id like to see some sci-fi movies that are rated R or worse, chronicles of riddick could have been one, but honestly Aeon Flux should deffenitly been one, with intense sexual content and voulger made up language and intense mental dementia.

  25. dlo2010
    February 19th, 2009 at 20:57 | #25

    @KEOLA:
    really?
    there have been a lot of guys around here saying it was 80
    but just in case it was, i was just trying to prove a point anyway
    but thats cool
    100 minutes is good
    more piccolo and gaku action

  26. February 19th, 2009 at 23:01 | #26

    @dlo2010: yeah it’s supposed to be 100 unless they cut out some stuff.

    February 19th, 2009 at 23:58 | #27

    I thought id have some thoughts on this rating. Now, movies like Star Wars are fine for a PG rating. violent enough, has great action, an impressive story, engaging characters, and was made for everyone to discover and get in on, even younger audiences. It has enough as a movie for casual movie goers, but a lot more content for Sci-Fi geeks who dig deeper. Also, this was an american made film, not Japanese.

    Now, with DB/Z. Its a different story. DB/Z is not, nor has ever been family oriented, at all. More than likely this rating is to get kids to drag their parents to go see it, thus drumming up the box office sales. DB/Z has always been more for hardcore action fans and just the whole universe Toriyama created, even if the storys arent the most impressive, it was always the journey of the hero that kept our attentions I think, and left that feeling of “Where does it go from here?”. Also, it’s a Japanese franchise, not many moms and dads I know are into anime. I dont think mom ran home after work to catch the latest episode of Dragonball Z.

    Which is why I think it was a mistake to make this a family oriented film to begin with, having the casual viewer in mind. Because for the hardcore fans(like me, and many others), a PG rating is blasphemy considering most of the DBZ movies are pretty much PG-13(maybe even rated R material) and were just not meant to ever be a family affair. Its an action series, with lots of violence and kickass characters, what? Is Vegeta supposed to hug his enemies?

    Making this movie a PG rating is a huge mistake I think. For example look at past movies like Freddy vs. Jason, and AVP. PG-13 movies……….and look what happened, considering these sequals were to movies that were originally rated R. Need I say more? So…….yeah, the rating makes me not too crazy about the content of the film. Sure Star Wars has had some pretty graphic stuff for a PG movie, but considering the amount to which the DB movie has been pretty much labeled as a family film really leaves me to think that it might not be all it can be. Or just isnt at all.

    And since they had to re-shoot the final battle between Piccolo and Goku, and now it has a PG rating…..something doesnt sit right with me on that. Call me a hater like usual. But somethings not right.

    @KEOLA: Yeah, then we’ll get “DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION UNRATED ON DVD!” SEE THE SCENES TOO SHOCKING FOR THEATERS, LIKE GOKU EATING TWO DRUMSTICKS!

  29. February 20th, 2009 at 01:12 | #29

    @notfordbmovie: FVJ was rated R and we don’t know if they did cut out stuff and a pg rating is not that bad I mean c’mon not to many kids can watch a pg13 movie and they made this movie for everyone not just the fans everyone kids,teens, and adults.

    February 20th, 2009 at 01:13 | #30

    You know… I don’t know about some of you… but when I first watched Dragonball/Z, I was 6, and became a hardcore fan at around 10 or so. Oh, sure, it was the slightly watered down version, with less blood, no swearing… but I think I’ll survive if the film has neither, as long as the movie is entertaining.
    At the end of the day, this is still a film for kids and adults… and we are guaranteed INTENSE action sequences and SOME swearing.

    February 20th, 2009 at 10:14 | #31

    @Saber: dude i think freddy vs jason is a pretty strong comparison, oh and i’m ok with PG but i wanted PG13 so much (12 for me in u.k) :roll:

    Why do people want an R rated movie out of this? Idk. Maybe I remember the fact that I grew up with this anime when I was idk…A KID? The show appeared on Cartoon channels. The show was intended for adolescents, why do some of you think since you are all grown up now that the movie has to be an all grown up movie? The only real diff between the english dub and japanese dub was the fact the english dub took away the swearing. There wasn’t even that much swearing. The fact its PG doesn’t bother me at all. There have been a lot of violent PG movies.

    February 21st, 2009 at 13:46 | #34

    @notfordbmovie: LOL did you say R rated material for the DBZ specials? Thats funny. Ya know, I love this whole “hardcore fan debate”. “Because for the hardcore fans(like me, and many others), a PG rating is blasphemy” Roflcopter. I dont find the PG rating blasphemy. Its based on an anime, that was shown on children’s cartoon channels, then digitally remastered and put into boxed sets claiming to be “uncut”. I would watch DB/DBZ with my whole family. In fact, Dragonball is PG material. Dragonball Z would be considered PG-13 material. Ya know what really kills me? When people say that ALL hardcore fans must think alike on something, or else they aren’t a hardcore fan. For example, I own every Dragonball related video game ever created, I own every copy of the manga, I own every season digitally remastered on DVD (except for 8. Haven’t got the money yet), I own a billion toys Dragonball-related (Thats right… Toys…Toys are intended for kids, correct?), I own COLORING BOOKS of Dragonball Z, I am currently working on a Goku costume, and I watch a LOT of Dragonball each month. However, I am not bothered by the PG rating and I think this movie will be amazing. So wait, I’m not a hardcore fan? Jeez. I wonder what a real hardcore fan is then.

  35. February 21st, 2009 at 20:53 | #35

    The guys that are ad about this rating is fuckin stupid. I bet half of u guys havent even watched Dragonball not Dragonball z.. pg rating is perfect for dragonball maybe pg 13 would have been a lil better but its fine. Now in the sequel which should be DRAGONBALL Z IT SHOULD BE MOST DEF RATED R

    @Ricky:
    This is a family film not a only adult movie. How can you think of that. The film makers wants this movie for kids and adults. You need to think a little better than saying the next one rated R. That would be ridiculous.

  41. Hitokiri_Battosai
    February 26th, 2009 at 14:25 | #41

    Look, i know its been said before, but dragonball is definately pg. there was really not that much violence. I only hope it does well enough to do DBZ, which definately needs to be made pg-13. An R rating? BS! No one would see it. Im a pretty hardcore fan, been there since age 5, still, pg is fine.

    Btw, nice comment SS4 pikachu.. i agree.

  42. Ricky
    February 26th, 2009 at 21:55 | #42

    Excuse me guys I meant pg 13..but it really doesn’t matter. What matters is the fuckin retards who say dragonball shouldn’t be pg. Are fuckin dumb and probably never seen one show of dragonball.

  43. whitney
    February 27th, 2009 at 11:56 | #43

    I think this is a suitable rating considering the fact that Dragon ball wasn’t that hardcore when it came to fighting. Now when they make the sequel that had better get a little higher rating because it is a bit more intense. The fight with Vegeta and Napa where Tien’s arm got torn off or where Goku and Radditz both got hit with Piccolo’s energy beam through the stomach might be a bit too much for someone under the age of ten.

    February 27th, 2009 at 18:41 | #44

    guys, dragonball was a kids show, and you watched it when you were kids. now, you’re grown up, and you’re getting made because it’s PG. you gotta realize that dragonball isn’t gonna grow with you, it was and always will be a kids show. :wink:

    DBZ…now THATS a different story
