James Marsters pointed out that the movie is based on “Dragon Ball” rather than “Dragon Ball Z” and that his character Lord Piccolo is a powerful, muscular villain rather than a decrepit old man. Another difference, he said, is that the film does not feature Lord Piccolo’s superpower ability of dismembering himself.

LOL. well that explains why piccolo looked strong and green in the beginning of the game when i played it.

and they changed his color from white face to green, cuz he never transforms.

and lord piccolo never regenerates. but anyway. there will be a piccolo jr, cuz lord piccolo dies. he doesnt become good. when james marsters said thats a long journey to become good, i guess he meant that it spanned the 3 sequels.

how comes people we have not seen and heard from our main man Stephen Chow. is he still the producer for this movie or not.

James Marsters does look like Rick Astley i bet when people watch this movie in the cinema and getting ready to see Dragonball. the first thing that pops up on the big screen is “Rickrolled”. remember this Dragonball Evolution is coming out in France on April 1st they will get the first attack of “Rickrolled” LOL

I like the comments that wong and the cast made with this conference. I could imagine it would be hard to condense a 16 book manga series into a little over an hour and a half and that’s why the screwed up changes (like highschool for example) were needed for continuity and realism.
I saw earlier that someone thought that the series started when goku was 14, no James Marsters had it right, he really was 7 years old when he met Bulma (who was 15, almost 10 years his senior) When Goku entered his first martial arts tournament with Krillin; Krillin was 14 and Goku was 13 (to quote the show: “Oh man, not only is he better than me, he’s younger too!”) When Goku fought Piccolo Jr. he was 19. So really when this movie takes place in the dragonball universe it kinda pans out.
but back to the conference, I think its kinda cute how Justin chatwin didn’t think he could pull it off, but really Goku was a bit of a skinny guy up until training with king kai, so really he fits the description perfectly and had no need to be so worried. :D
What I’m worried about is how they are going to end up handling Z, that was a 26 book manga and if they had trouble with the 16… 8O

some of you guys when quoting about Dragonball anime series you keep on calling Piccolo, Lord Piccolo. his actually King Piccolo in the series. dont confuse Lord Piccolo from Dragonball Evolution with King Piccolo from Dragonball anime does not seem right at all.

    @ kaiokenx10

Just to let you know, citing the existence of some conveniently unverifiable friends of yours of different races and sexual preferences doesn’t make you any less a racist or a homophobe. That’s not to say that you are, but if all you can do to refute the claims is to trot out nonsense like that, maybe you need to do some introspection. :P

  21. CyberMonkey
    February 18th, 2009 at 12:12 | #21

Oops. What I meant to say was this:

“Just to let you know, citing the conveniently unverifiable existence of some friends of yours of different races and sexual preferences doesn’t make you any less a racist or a homophobe.”

Basically what I’m getting at is that if you say something that comes across racist or homophobic, then it doesn’t matter whether or not you have friends who run the spectrum of colors and preferences covered in whatever stupid slurs you decide to post, because you’re still an idiot. In fact it’s arguable that you’re an even bigger idiot for thinking it’s alright to say that shit just ’cause you have friends and you ignorantly think all your bases are covered. Nor is there any point in using unverifiable information to defend yourself from whatever fallout may come of your stupidity if you decide to flap your gums like a inbred redneck trash, because all we have to go on is the word of a racist homophobe, and you’ll forgive us if that’s not enough.

That’s not to say that you engage in that sort of behavior, but eh, it’s something to think about just the same. :P

masters did get one thng wrong goku is 12 years old and fights giants all the time and is infact 19 atthe end of the piccolo saga.

  27. February 18th, 2009 at 16:36 | #27

@Adam: Nobody addressed you, Canadian. Shouldn’t you be busy celebrating Chatwin getting a shot at sequels? But really…you want to put money on what you just said? A little quick cash would be nice.

In the comic book series, “Goku is 7 years old and fighting midgets all the time,” said Marsters

-Okay, thanks for confirming that you never actually looked into the source material other than casually watching some episodes with your son. Anyone who really read the manga would know Goku is 12 at the start of Dragon Ball.

The AP is also completely ignorant based on their description.

By “dismembering,” does he mean regenerating? Was hoping for that, but oh well. Maybe they’re saving it for the sequel…

    February 18th, 2009 at 18:21 | #29

Yes, Goku is 12 at the beginning of DB. Well, he is when he enters his first tournament. He says 14, at the beginning. BUT, when he enters the tournament, he says 12, and tells Bulma that he couldn’t count when they first met.

So, at the youngest he could be, I would say 10. But I don’t think two years, or even a year passes, between the beginning of the Manga, and the tournament.

SOMEBODY FIND THAT FOOTAGE OF THE MOVIE THEY SHOWED!!

  31. February 18th, 2009 at 20:34 | #31

@J (亀): he didn’t know his own age cause he didn’t know how to count well at least that’s what he said to bulma when he was entering the world martial arts tournament and he was the very least 15 when he met king piccolo and 18 when he met piccolo jr.

  32. February 18th, 2009 at 21:18 | #32

oh i forgot to add that he said he was 12 at the time.

@Team Venture: yeah he was(or is) a big music star in korea.

    coooll!!!

  37. February 19th, 2009 at 14:46 | #37

@KEOLA: No. At the time he didn’t know how to count he said he was 14. When he learned how to count he found out he was 12 or what he said, I think it was “whatever number comes after 11″. That’s why Bulma was so grossed out when he walked in the room while she was taking a bath and told her he was 14 (which would have been 2 years younger than her).

Also, why is Rossum saying Bulma will throw teenage tantrums in the movie? Is she being depicted as being younger than or the same age as Goku? If so, are they going to try to pass the 39 year-old Joon Park off as a teenager?

“’I also love the comic books, but the manga is very long. There’s no way to put all that in one movie,’ said director James Wong.” … THEN, why not make more than one movie to cover the whole series?

  39. February 19th, 2009 at 17:16 | #39

@J (亀): Bulma and Yamcha are in their 20’s in this movie because if I remember correctly aren’t they just a little bit older than goku like 4-5 years(please correct me if I’m wrong) it’s in their character profile goku is 18 so is chi chi bulma and yamcha are their 20’s piccolo is ancient master roshi…well I can’t remember what they put master mutatio is in 60’s or 70’s and granpa gohan is mid 60’s early 70’s
