Sequel’s Script Already Written?
Sci-FiNow talked with Justin Chatwin (Goku) who spilled to them that the sequel to Dragonball Evolution has already been written.
Dragonball: Evolution, the first live-action adaptation of the popular manga, hasn’t even hit our screens yet, but the script for a proposed sequel has already been written, according to Justin Chatwin, who plays Goku in the upcoming film.
Speaking to SciFiNow last month, the 26-year-old actor said that he was signed on for potential sequels, and that he was excited about the prospect: “If there were to be a sequel I think it… well, I know that it would go to a really interesting place, because they already have the second script written.†When pressed for details, Chatwin revealed a little more about the direction of the celluloid version of the franchise. “It’s really, really cool. The second one goes more into the whole legacy and the genealogy of Dragonball. It goes more in-depth into a real Dragonball series, the kind of intergalactic world of Dragonball.â€
dragonball.saiyanisland.com was tipped similar information earlier by a trusted scooper. The tentative title for this alleged script is Dragonball Reborn, but of course nothing has been green lit yet.
@Greg: yeah they were good back in the 90’s and with today’s technology they would look even better.
@NickxCore:
Actually, it would make a good movie. You see they excluded Pilaf out of this movie, in fact, skipping over it completely. Of course they’ll take away his ability to turn people into chocolate. Having Babidi could actually work as a master for Buu since he’s so damn stupid. So it could actually work.
And yeah, maybe they should stop with the Cell Saga, but I would hate for it to end with Goku dead and Vegeta not EVER fighting again (or at least taking it seriously). So maybe they should just end it with the Buu saga either releasing it straight to DVD or to theaters, which ever is the best choice.
The only thing I can officially say they shouldn’t do is GT. That is where I definitely draw the line. You can’t have buff super-powerful warriors calling their opponent Baby. Especially not in a live action movie.
@gohan son: what kid from twilight?
@keola
at least jet li can act and has more screen presence. plus i think the dude playing yamcha for this film, is like in his mid to late 30’s i believe, so there goes that arguement over age right there. plus, toby maguire was like in his mid 20’s when he donned a 18 yr old spidey. Tom Welling is like in his late 20’s playing a 17 yr old kid in Smallville.
where as ray park, i know i’ll get a lot of flak for this, but lets face it, the damn extras in the movie had more lines than him in the first Star Wars prequel and you all know it. All that dude did was do a few lousy lines like yes master, then did a bunch of stunts with a lightsaber. and you all think he’s a the greatest actor in the world. first of all until he has a major role other than a supporting character like in X-Men and Star Wars where he actually acts, then i’ll believe it. if not we might as well say Pamela Anderson was great in Barb Wire if you guys are going to go off and say Ray Park is a great actor.
and before anyone says anything, i know ray is rumored to be iron fist in a movie, but lets face it. when the hell is that ever getting made? u ntil it does, i won’t consider him a great actor. sorry.
@steven: I never said he was a great actor he at least has some experience he has had an acting role where he had many lines of dialouge and he was quite decent but like I said he probally couldn’t do it because he is in the G.I JOE movies so either Scott Adkins or Jonathan Rhys Meyers would be good…..I know I’ll get flammed for this but we all know goku is not human right?and he can be either asian or european so wouldn’t it be best if they got another european (or white guy) for vegeta don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t mind an asian playing vegeta but wouldn’t it be less confusing for the non-fans if they got another white guy?……and joon park doesn’t look his age.
same here i reckon the next one should be called dragonballz and the one after that should be dragonballgt but im really hoping to see teen gohango up agaist cell but i doubt that will be in the 2nd one it wold prob be in the 3rd one , i heard on utube that the director says theyres 5 parts of dragonball (z) (gt) the first ones called dragonball evoulution but he didnyt say what the othr 4 are ! damn !!!
They shuld name the next one dragon ball z , not reborn or stuff its shuld be caled DBZ and it shuld be about all goku piccolo vs raditz then Vegeta and it shuld end on planet namek when goku is fighting frieza <it wuld be aryyyly long movie but it wuld be greate coz then the 3 one wuld be about cell or buu
@keola
don’t worry you make a lot of valid points. all i was saying is that age isn’t as big of a factor as you think. Hell a lot of actors throughout hollywood history have played roles that are not of their age group, so you shouldn’t discount the possibility of Jet Li over that little fact.
Hell, the Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman, had him playing a high graduate even though he was like in his mid 30’s at the time. Thats all i was saying.

sorry typo. lol.
@steven: oh I see sorry I kinda got mixed up.
it would be good if they do it about planet vageta they shud show a bit about broly because they did try to kill him cuz he was too powerful and when goku was born it shows broly next to him
itz just a thought tho ……. i reail wish it could happen
reborn?
sounds more like a reboot than a sequel
but why would u try to reboot before the movie even comes out. its definitely a sequel. im just hoping it will have the terminator effect. where the sequel is better than the first.
Dragonball Evolution sequels will be FAR BETTER than Dragonball Evolution it’s self , that’s a fact. That’s all i’m saying… Expect a great improvement for the sequels
Everyone makes fairly good points but personally i think Jet Li (with the poorer english) is quite a fair point, and we all know vegeta has guite a rugged and sturdy voice which i don’t think Jet Li can fulfill.
I think Cell saga would be a good place to end it, realistically buu saga gets a little outta hand and to have the special effects for the millions of times he is blown up and put together is kinda ridiulous. If they did for some reason do Buu saga its kinda long an dragged out and if goku is resureccted people will thinkg “oh gheez they are just repeating old material” whether or not it was in the anime.
well everything sound good.. so far…please fix those graphic… specially the Kamehameha , kai blast make look look more realy to the cartoon iiight, n i think Jason is a little too small to play grown up Goku. . I’m guessing the first one was made toward little kids right… now upgrade to grown up make the movie longer, and one thing i did not see a litter of blood on any of the characters….lol
If (and I do mean “IFâ€) this movie ever gets made for a theatrical release, this will be the perfect opportunity to start over from scratch and do the series as well as the fans some justice. I’m talking total RETCON here. Replace the role of Goku and go with someone a little more credible. He doesn’t necessarily have to be established or well known for that matter, but at least “credible†for the character. That kid with the funny hair-do just wasn’t cutting it. He looked like someone who had a bad day at the hair dresser and should have asked for a refund. I’m not sure at this point who would be better in the role of Goku, but Jonathan Rhys Myers would be the ultimate actor to play Vegeta. Who else could possibly pull off that aristocratic, arrogant, and insufferable attitude like he can, yet still come off as sympathetic and utterly entertaining (ie. The Tudors)?
Part two is where you learn from the mistakes of the past people and realize that this movie is all about the fans, and as fans we simply ask for one thing and one thing only: stop trying to bring the cheesiness from the cartoon (which was cute and endearing) to the big screen and give us a story that is plausible and has depth. It’s not just about the fights (although they make Dragonball what it is). It’s also about the heart of the character and how he struggles with maintaining his innocence and carefree nature in the face of true evil while coming into the powers of a demi-god. The episodes when Frieza wounded Picolo and killed Krillin, were the best scenes in the whole saga because we felt Goku struggle with that desperation, hatred, and rage as he was faced with hopelessness. When he finally did transform…CLASSIC! Give us that type of movie instead of trying to pander to promoting toys and other whack commercialism. Take a cue from the Wachowski brothers and the success they had with “The Matrixâ€. A film that initially had no big promotional advertising but turned out to be an awesome story and instant cult classic. One could see the passion that went into that movie before they lost their minds hollywood-style and totally screwed the pooch with the other two. Fans would love to see that same passion develop into a trilogy based on Dragonball Z as we see Goku finally fulfill his destiny and become a Super Saiyan. Stop trying to cram the entire series into a 2 hour frame and spread it out like Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings. Or maybe they should hire him to write the next script so it would really be worth seeing.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again… This movie can be brought to the big screen and done right. The technology exists to bring every awesome fight scene and every awesome transformation to reality. It would just take an amazing set of writers and a passionate director to give it life. The question though is “Do you continue to churn out garbage just for the sake of a check, or do you put a little thought and effort into this next project and see it become (in the words of Barney Stinson…) AWESOME?!â€
@revolutionary fan
They should call dbz and just have tha frieza/cell saga, coz its not too long and it would be sik to see goku go Super saiyan. But then again maybe they should leave it at the first one coz that failed miserably, and theres no point in denying it. 3 movies Dragonball/Z/GT evolution, period, no spin offs or anything. and they should get jason statham to play goku when he turns SSJ1.
