Sequel’s Script Already Written?

February 18th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Sci-FiNow talked with Justin Chatwin (Goku) who spilled to them that the sequel to Dragonball Evolution has already been written.

Dragonball: Evolution, the first live-action adaptation of the popular manga, hasn’t even hit our screens yet, but the script for a proposed sequel has already been written, according to Justin Chatwin, who plays Goku in the upcoming film.

Speaking to SciFiNow last month, the 26-year-old actor said that he was signed on for potential sequels, and that he was excited about the prospect: “If there were to be a sequel I think it… well, I know that it would go to a really interesting place, because they already have the second script written.” When pressed for details, Chatwin revealed a little more about the direction of the celluloid version of the franchise. “It’s really, really cool. The second one goes more into the whole legacy and the genealogy of Dragonball. It goes more in-depth into a real Dragonball series, the kind of intergalactic world of Dragonball.”

dragonball.saiyanisland.com was tipped similar information earlier by a trusted scooper. The tentative title for this alleged script is Dragonball Reborn, but of course nothing has been green lit yet.

    I wonder when they will start shoot it and announce who is Vegeta. If it’s already written they must have someone in mind.

    @supaflyafro: Garlic Jr? 8O Really?

    ANYONE ELSE THINK THAT “DRAGON BALL: Z WARRIORS” WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER TITLE?

    If they do a trilogy the next movies should be, Vegeta, and then Frieza. They would be the only ones that work best as a hollywood movie no matter how much i’d like to see Cell.

    After this movie Gohan should be born and introduce Piccolo Jr. in the opening just like in the first episodes of Z with the arrival of raditz and so on with Vegeta. It serves as an amazing climactic battle.

    Have almost everyone die and theres your tagline for the next movie. Just like in Pirates 3 when they try to bring Sparrow back from the dead. And eventually let the final battle be the birth of the super saiyan.

    Now that’d be the best damn ending to any trilogy i’d have ever seen.

    Dragonball: Reborn? Okay I already didn’t like the feel of Dragonball: Evolution, so why Reborn? I mean I know it’s not official, but don’t you think they have these titles backward. Since this is the new Dragonball adaptation, THIS movie should be the one called Dragonball: Reborn (ew), then the sequel should be Dragonball: Evolution. Ah well… They do something.

    If anything it should be Dragonball 2(Z) or Dragonball: Millennium Z (lol that my fanfic title but STILL I think it’s kewl :D ).

    What would you like the title to be?

    I think you guys should understand that the word like “Evolution” and “Reborn” probably deals with the Movie so changing the title wouldn’t make much since, the name Reborn isn’t bad, I mean like most of you guys said, it probably deals with Piccolo Jr being born or Goku coming back stronger. I’m guessing they named this first movie Evolution because of Goku’s transformation to the oozaru or most likely a New Adaption on Dragonball. Also when Justin said “It goes more in-depth into a real Dragonball series, the kind of intergalactic world of Dragonball.”, I’m also thinking about Namek, but I hope to see more characters from the series, mostly Vegeta. Gohan maybe is gonna be in the movie, but I doubt I’m going to see Kid Gohan Fight some Saibamen, I hope to see Krillin in this one, With Hair or no Hair….or Nose lolz! :D Come on Krillin!

  10. February 18th, 2009 at 21:41 | #10

    @Rung: good point.

  11. February 18th, 2009 at 23:15 | #11

    lets see reborn = kid gohan, possibly bardock (flashback), raditz maybe, nappa, and VEGETA (I want james franco to be vegeta)

  12. February 18th, 2009 at 23:49 | #12

    @goku jr: james franco? hmm i would have went for like scott adkins or ray park

  13. February 19th, 2009 at 02:37 | #13

    well, lets wait and see how this movie does before we even begin to talk about a possible sequel. I mean a lot of things can still happen. I remember when “Masters of the Universe” came out there were plans for a sequel too, but it bombed so there was never a sequel. A fifth sequel was planned in Superman (Christopher Reeves version) was planned also using mutants, but that never happened after the 4th bombed. All im saying is lets wait to see how the first film pans out then see where it goes from there.

    to be honest, i know some had said tien should be back for the sequel, but he was never a major character in dragon ball or dragon ball z unless you wanna count that one sage he was in as a main bad guy, but since then he hasn’t been anything more than a supporting character along with chiaotzu. however, i have a feeling this weaver guy is going to replace krillin. heck i wouldn’t be surprised if they say krillin is his last name or something. or they’ll change it in the movie. however, i could be wrong though.

    As for the sequel, i wouldn’t threat it. the title, Dragonball Reborn, probably refers to both Piccollo Jr.’s birth and the return of goku coming back stronger when getting resurrected. Heck if Nolan could pull off a kick ass movie introducing both joker and two face, then Im sure Wong can do both story arcs into one film.

  14. February 19th, 2009 at 03:13 | #14

    @goku jr. and keola

    I think Jet Li would be my choice for the perfect Vegeta. He makes a pretty good bad guy. just look at him in “The One” and the last mummy movie. Plus, he already knows martial arts, so they wouldn’t have to train him that much.

    As for Nappa and Raditz, thats a bit of a tough one. Well not for Nappa, i’d probably go with Goldberg the wrestler. He looks just like the character and plus it’s a small part that requires little acting so he’d be perfect for it.

    Now Raditz is a bit of a tough one though. I would say Mickey Rourke, but i think he’d be too buff since he just buffed up for “the wrestler.” so i think i’d probably pick Liev Schrieber to play him since he’s already has experience doing a bad guy role in the upcoming Wolverine flick.

    all i ask if dragonball reborn is made is that 1. they sort out piccolo junior, please dont mess him up with weird clothes, weird facial features cus lets face it king piccolo actually did look like a scarier version of piccolo junior and if thats anything to go by on marsters version of piccolo….he’s going to look so gay lol 2. chatwin take more of a grown up approach with goku as he matures a hella lot start of dbz and 3. they achieve the super sayian form we’re all waiting for, this could be the point they really kill the movie and we are relying on them to do it right…wats the bet they change it and his hair doesnt actually go blonde :( i got a scary feeling theyd leave it out cus looks too cheesy and jus power goku up hella lot to look super

    ei.. don’t forget about BROLY, he’s the only saiyan with gray hair at SSJ state. and only gets yellow when he becomes the LEGENDARY SUPER SAIYAN!!! PLEASE DON’T MESS UP WITH THE COSTUMES!!. AND USE “CAPSULES” in Bulma’s special items and only neede to click then BOOM!!! and not some kind of transformer style. OK????????

  17. February 19th, 2009 at 05:14 | #17

    He never mentioned planets he said the ‘intergalactic world of dragonball’ eg the part of dragonball that is further down he line eg all he meant by it was that (obviously) the sequel would be Z based and on that nothe theres 5 awesome sequels right there!

    DBMovie 2 – saiyan saga

    DBMovie 3 – frieza saga

    DBMovie 4 – android saga

    DBMovie 5 – cell saga

    DBMovie 6 – buu saga

    MY GOD I WOULD BUY THEM ALL INDIVIDUALLY AND THEN EVERY BOX SET AS THEY ARE RELEASED…. and i’m basing this 101% on the trailer for this movie alone

    so excited now.. also excited for download festival!

    February 19th, 2009 at 05:33 | #20

    im pretty sure he’s referring to namek. i doubt cell or majin buu will be in the movie. most likely frieza since he was the reason for the rebirth of super saiyans.

    February 19th, 2009 at 08:26 | #21

    @goku jr: james franco could vbery much be a good cast character. plus i also know that they could most likely have krillin with hair since master roshi and grandpa gohan did in this movie than they did in the anime and manga. i also wanna see goku do kaioken. wanna see if this justin chatwin character would actually bulk up. he would look a lot buff if he tried to improve on his triceps more than biceps

    Bullshit.

    I’m sticking to my guns here. The second movie (if made) will go all the way to the end of the Freeza saga. It makes zero sense to end at the end of the Vegeta Saga. “Intergalactic” means to me they are leaving Earth.

    It makes no “hollywood” sense to end at the Vegeta saga. Nothing romantic happens, nothing questlike happens, nothing non-fighting happens. There is one generic set, pretty much. Plotwise, there is a big fight. People train.

    Plus, this way we’d get to see the Cell Saga. ;) I live in hope.

  25. Patrick
    February 19th, 2009 at 10:25 | #25

    as much as I’d like to see a cell saga or preferably a cell games saga made into a movie,I’d be fine with them ending the trilogy with Frieza and Goku turning super saiyan. That would be pretty bad ass.

    Unlike most people, I actually believe “Dragonball Evolution” is an excellent title. Sure at first i was like ‘huh? What’s wrong with just Dragonball” but I realised the intended use of “Evolution”. It refers to how the legend of DB has been adapted for live action and I believe that atleast 90% of the changes were neccessary to “evolve” DB from anime/manga to live action: Goku going to High school; no krillen, tien or chiaotzu; Bulma not having blue hair (Come on now, we all know which kinds of people have blue hair in real life, haters must just stop being rediculous!). I definately believe that “Dragonball Evolution” should remain the main title for this possible franchise. This aint DB, DBZ or DBGT its DBE!!!!!! Hence, I think the title of the next movie should either be “Dragonball Evolution: The Saiyans” or “Dragonball: The Evolution of The Saiyans” think about it, on a deeper level. “Evolution” would not only refer to the evolution of the legend this time, It would also directly refer to The few remaining Saiyans- How, firstly, they must adapt to their new surroundings on planet Earth and also how the Saiyans, ultimately, evolve themselves from a race of mercenaries to a race of heroes! Come on, you know that would be slick (That was for you Fox) But right now, I can’t for DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION” (Rule playing in the background, haha) :mrgreen:

    True, SSJ is more climatic than SSJ2 from a figurative standpoint (even though the anime scene with the specially made music for SSJ2 is so amazingly awesome). That said, given the large role they seem to be giving characters like Bulma and Chichi, having the Vegeta saga be one movie (where auxiliary characters basically do not much of anything) seems like it wouldn’t work out so well. But, who knows? There will probably be tons of alterations regardless of what they do, so we might see elements of different sagas popping up.

    February 19th, 2009 at 15:33 | #31

    The movie is going to rake in some serious cash overseas, and will probably do decent here in the US… Fox knows this, thats why the sequel has already been written… Notice they said sequel, so it wont be anything about the Saiyans… More then likely it will be a continuation involving Raditz, Vegeta, and Nappa… They have to accelerate the time frame in these movies so I dont know how they would portray that but I think the logical step is to show Goku taking his destiny a step further, becoming even stronger, and finally in the third movie (i hope) adapting Frieza into the enemy Goku fights and Goku’s transformation into SSJ1… That would be awesome to see on the big screen.

  32. February 19th, 2009 at 17:09 | #32

    @steven: yeah Jet Li is good in terms of martial arts but his english isn’t good and he’s old vegeta is not that much older than goku so either Scott Adkins or Ray Park(maybe not ray park because he’s in the G.I. Joe movies) because they can both do martial arts and they can act somewhat hell even Johnathan Rhys Meyers would be good for vegeta(in terms of acting)

    @Osiris: Nathan Jones is good but I doubt he would do it because he would probally be tied up with the Tekken movies so goldberg is the next best thing.

  33. Greg
    February 19th, 2009 at 19:32 | #33

    @keola

    i totally agree with you on nappa, nathan jones is perfect, he’s a giant 6′11 360lbs

    if not him maybe the guy who played jason in the movie derek mears, not as tall or big 6′5 ?lbs but would still tower over chatwin and whoever they would get to play vegeta

    http://www.imdb.com/media/rm434735872/tt0758746

    i can’t thin of anyone good for vegeta or krillin

  34. February 19th, 2009 at 19:43 | #34

    @Greg: ah yes Derek Mears would be good as well….I stick with what I said about who I would pick for vegeta….krillin? maybe Ernie Reyes Jr.

  35. Greg
    February 19th, 2009 at 19:48 | #35

    @keola

    i don’t know ernie reyes jr might be to sweet to play krillin…lol

  36. Greg
    February 19th, 2009 at 19:54 | #36

    @keola

    i could see how you would like scott adkins, but he is just as tall as chatwin, which in light of other changes wouldn’t be that big, but hopefully they would somehow make him look a lil shorter than chatwin, cuz i think goku should be taller than vegeta its just sweet looking when they stand off

  37. Greg
    February 19th, 2009 at 20:00 | #37

    @maiki

    you make an excellent point. i hope they aren’t so wrapped up in keeping emmy rossum, jamie chung, joon park and chow yun fat in big roles that they change how the fight should be against the saiyans. i mean if they have bulma, chi chi, or master roshi helping in the fight against the saiyans. i will be so disappointed. i think yamcha should still die as should tien and chao tsu and piccolo. it would be sweet to have gohan fighting but i don’t know how it would work. but man it would be awesome and i hope they give piccolo his purple suit and gohan wears the same one.

  38. February 19th, 2009 at 20:23 | #38

    @Jay:

    Thats waay to many movies don’t ya think? It’ll be better to combine the movies because I’m pretty sure they’ll start running out of ideas for the fight scenes because we would have probably seen them all by the third movie (if they went in your direction). I think it should be more like…

    Dragonball 2(Z)- The Saiyan Saga/Frieza Saga (It would be a LONG movie, but the longer, the better.)
    Dragonball 3(?)- The Android/Cell Saga (This would also be a long movie, but not as long as the previous but would still cover the story well.)
    Dragonball 4(?)- The Buu Saga (This would be of course the final movie. The story would be told rather well I think, although we might see some major changes like the Fusion Dance, Great Saiyaman, Majin Buu, etc. The recreation of the final fight with Kid Buu and the Spirit Bomb would be great to see on the big screen. Also the very ending (which is ten years later) would introduce Uub and we’ll get to see the fight between them, then Goku leaves to train him and the story is over.)

    After that I, and I’m sure a lot of people would be pleased with the movie franchise. After that I’ll be completely satisfied. I’d be okay if they made Dragonball GT but it would have to be a straight to DVD movie unless they ABSOLUTELY feel comfortable with it. I dunno exactly how that is going to play out if they did since Goku was a 18 in the first movie, so wishing him to be a kid would be… Awkward in a way.

    But yeah. I think the movie series should move that way. This way we’ll have four good, and possibly long movies to live with. Hopefully they won’t over do it.

  39. February 19th, 2009 at 20:30 | #39

    @Greg: yeah i know Ernie Reyes Jr. isn’t the best choice but he really could pull it off he’s a martial artist,he’s not that tall,and he’s an actor….yeah scott is to tall but he could pull off the attitude same with Johnathan Rhys Meyers and ray park is kinda short but like I said he would probally be to busy with G.I. Joe same with Nathan Jones and Tekken.

  40. February 19th, 2009 at 20:32 | #40

    @G: You make a strong point I think this movie will do great overseas as well.

  41. Greg
    February 19th, 2009 at 20:48 | #41

    @keola

    yea e.r. jr would be great in the respect of martial arts and if he could pull off acting like he did in surf ninjas or ninja turtles 2 secret of the ooze as keno then i am sold, but still he is so good he might be unbelievable as a goofy best friend side kick for justin chatwin. although i think chatwin will do a good job as goku. man speaking of ninja turtles i wish the new one was live action i wasn’t a big fan of how they resembled frogs.

    @awesome guy the 4th movie would be sweet and you know to see goku go supersaiyan blond and blue eyes. i hope chatwin gets progressively bigger throughout sequels. like muscle size he could be bigger to look a little more like goku

    i’m probably super late but has anyone seen this before, and is this for real?

    Dragonball Reborn eh??
    well seeing as the Saiyans were nearly exterminated, this movie can introduce the saiyans,thus reincarnating the Saiyan idealogy and lust for battle,etc.
    the the other mythological world, I think he might be talking about planet Namek?? I dont see Fox using Frieza as a villan though…as awesome as he is, they would have to make some prettyepic special effects,costume changes, and a good story to follow along.
    the reborn concept can be applied to the dragonballs on planet Namek also,seeing as they are the origin of Earths Dragonballs.
    hopefully they will stay somewhat true to the story and turn Piccolo good in the 2nd movie and introduce the Saiyans,resulting in the death of Piccolo and thus the Earths Dragonballs are relinquished of their powers…or something similar to that…please…please

    Or I could be completely wrong and they could ditch the Saiyan concept, kill Piccolo off in this movie,introduce more random characters,travel to some mythological world we dont know about…and overall shit on all my hopes and dreams for the upcoming franchise.

    February 19th, 2009 at 22:10 | #44

    @awesomeguy
    as much as I respect your hopes for the upcoming franchise,I have to disagree with the Buu Saga making a good movie.
    I mean, a pink regenerating fighting blob controlled by a little wizard midget?? not to mention Buu turns his enemies into chocolates.
    I love the Buu Saga, but im sure Fox will think their viewers will despise the movie if they stay true to that saga,they would completely,utterly,butcher that movie…probably making uu go straight to Uub.

    If anything I want them to stop at the Cell Saga…thats drawing the line imo

  45. R3
    February 19th, 2009 at 22:56 | #45

    If it is green-lit, I think they should definitely introduce Goku’s heritage as a Saiyan as well as bring Vegeta into the cast. I think a second film should focus on the Saiyan attack on Earth, and then ‘cliff hang’ into a third sequel about planet Namek.

    If they scrap the “Super Saiyan” saga idea then I will personally find the writer(s) responsible and hit them with an iron rake. :twisted:

  46. February 19th, 2009 at 23:03 | #46

    @Greg: yeah I know what you mean there was a rumor that they were gonna re-make all the live action ones.

  47. February 19th, 2009 at 23:05 | #47

    @NickxCore: yeah I agree they shouldn’t do buu if anything just stop with cell.

  48. February 19th, 2009 at 23:13 | #48
