Two New Scenes

Yahoo has two new clips from Dragonball: Evolution. The first is the full Chi-Chi vs. Chi-Chi fight, and the second is of when Goku meets Roshi for the first time.

I could cry … I love these new scenes, but i watched a german trailer of dbe a minute before (i am german) and i HATE the voice of goku. the kame-hame-ha sounds so cheap! Lucky you if you dont have to watch the german translation.

    March 8th, 2009 at 13:46 | #5

@john: I find it funny how everyone wishes Krillin was in the movie, yet those are the same people who mock his existance in Dragonball. His whole purpose in the entire series was a meat shield. His character was never even considered important until Frieza killed him causing Goku to enter Super Saiyan.

So Krillin/kurrin wasn’t important in the first two world tournament saga’s? Or his death which set off the king piccolo saga? Remember Goku risked his life trying to Avenge his best friend.

Kurrin wasn’t important during the saiyan-ginyu saga? Remember he was the only 100% earth fighter to survive.

from the 2nd season of DB to the very END of Z he’s probably one of the most important supporting characters, yamcha had very little role in the series beyond the 1st season of DB. So he dates bulma for a minute than she dumps him for vegeta whoop de doo.

    IMO This was amazing footage.
They were all in character and its meant to be frickin CHEESY/CORNY!!!! DB/Z always was for god sake!! have any of you haters/moaners actually watched/read the original?? geezus!!
really starting to get miffed off. This movie is more like the original than you give it credit for.
and if i have to say this one more time……CHATWIN IS GOKU!!!! He IS!!! He acts like him, he looks like him!! Goku DOES use some bad words in the orignal Dragonball and he DOES get aggressive and cocky!!! (not that hes saying a bad word here…could be “shoot”) As a kid he always thought he could beat anyone and anything!!! Geezus…..some of you OBVIOUSLY don’t know the original so just shut up, or at least watch/read he original Dragonball before you start judging and throwing insults.

Man, i fcuk-ing love Roshi

    March 8th, 2009 at 14:46 | #9

@Kaiju-Z: @chicagoboy888: Oh man you read me wrong. I clearly said he dies during the fight with Frieza not after. Think about. When Goku was struggling with Frieza with his Kamehameha wave and Frieza was charging agianst Frieza broke lose from the beam and drove Goku into the ground and a lava explosion killed Goku. Gohan sensed his dads power level disappeared all at once and went after Frieza. During the exchange between Gohan and Frieza the Earth Dragon finished the wish to revive all those who were killed by Frieza and that included the recently fallen Goku. In a flash and pillar of light Goku returns to the fight and tells Gohan to leave right away.

I’ll post a link to the video if you still believe you’re right even though you are clearly WRONG.

You might have to watch the one after that too to see what it is I am talking about. Just click the next episode link above the videos.

    March 8th, 2009 at 17:32 | #15

Alassandros: I’ve seen that episode before.
Goku didn’t die. There have been many moments in DBZ where one’s ki couldn’t be sensed, yet they were alive (like in the Buu saga, when Gohan was “supposedly dead”, yet he wasn’t). When one is knocked out in Dragonball, his ki is hard to sense, so Gohan couldn’t sense him well.

Goku already had died once on Earth, if you can remember that from the Saiyan saga. So the Earth dragonballs wouldn’t be able to work on him again. One cannot be revived twice with the Earth dragonballs. So yeah. He was alive.

    I’m definitely seeing this movie.
However, I am not without complaints:
    1. I know these are lesser fights in the movie, and are not that important to the story (hence them being posted on the internet early) But whoever was teaching the martial arts choreography to these people needs a roundhouse kick to the head
Jamie Chung’s form is totally sloppy and her blows seem to lack power, I feel like I could beat her.
Goku’s punches were all big wind-up punches. I understand the need for a dramatic punch, but it doesn’t have to be EVERY SINGLE punch.

Otherwise, loving this. Can’t wait for the relaese

  18. March 8th, 2009 at 20:21 | #18

@J: Yeah, I’m disappointed in Fox for not listening to the Producer.

So he’s doing the shadow Crane attack, that’s cool. I’ll go with it.

About the super fast arms, I don’t know if I mentioned that, but I do like that because it was in the series. I’m not too keen on Chow Yun Fat’s performance but really excited for Marster’s Piccolo.

“Hell even during his fight with Frieza he dies in molten lava(only to be revived very shortly after by the Earth Dragonballs) so that tells you he isn’t really immune to fire until much, much, MUCH later.”

Goku didn’t die after he beat Frieza. He found a space pod and got to Yadrat.

Actually it depends on whose perspective you look at it. Many fans prefer the Frieza ending as it was originally supposed to end there. Most fans say it should have ended there. I do somewhat agree, but I do like Cell. lol.
I’m not saying anything bad about you just pointing to the fact that it really is a matter of opinion.

Do you really want to see characters moving at nearly who knows how fast past the speed of sound, not light since Goku only managed that through Instant Teleportation. We would be just like the spectators watching the fights thinking its a bunch of smoke and mirrors not being able to follow their movements with our eyes. I’d say they are moving at a relatively good pace but good enough for us to catch the action.

  23. john
    March 8th, 2009 at 23:45 | #23

Um no, Goku didn’t die in the middle of his fight with freeza. He just took a quick break and conceled his energy (characters did that many times during the series) Like other posters said, the earth dragon cant grant the same wish more than once. Had he of died there he couldn’t of been revived.

I love how people are critical of the movie not sticking closer to the anime/manga yet they themselves obviously dont know the series all that well.

Goku swore, got cocky, aggressive all the time during the actual series. Maybe not in the FUNI dubs but the early FUNI dubs made goku sound like a retarded captain america wanna be.

the female acting in this movie is probably an upgrade from the original Anime. In DB when bulma wasn’t getting naked (fortunately she got naked a lot) she was easilly the most obnoxious character. Chungs a decent actor and she’s easy on the eye’s.

People take this movie way to seriously and forget that it’s not mean’t to be taken seriously. It was never produced to be a serious Oscar worthy film. It’s just meant to be an entertaining pop-corn flick.

Also the movie was never intended to be 100% like the Anime it was just meant to be an adaptation BASED ON the Anime. I like how this film has a very dragon ball-ish sense of humor (minus the crude humor of course)

I started watching dragon ball over 10 years ago. I’m glad some people had the balls to try and make this movie work. I think the best thing for all the diehards would to be to just try and forget everything you know about DB well in the theatre and just try and enjoy it as something different.

I’m sure in the end we’ll still wish a few things where different but that’s most movies.

  24. Alassandros
    March 9th, 2009 at 00:22 | #24

@Kaiju-Z: Oh wow you’re right, but I do believe he did die because Gohan sensed his power die out and since Frieza couldn’t power levels it wouldn’t make sense to conceal his power level and with less than 5 minutes left I doubt he was taking a break. Considering the fact that no one said anything about him hiding and settled on him dying I’m going to assume it so.

You are completely right about the Earth Dragonballs. Shenron can’t bring back someone twice and there is only really one explaination and that’s: Goku did die however considering that the episode was NON CANON it had a major plot hole as does many non canon stories. Perhaps we’re both right.

But nevertheless the point was at that time in the story fire was a threat to Goku so walking through it wouldn’t be a smart choice.

And I would love to hear about you’re take on my question about Cell and a Oozaru like transformation in the Full moon light.

  25. Alassandros
    March 9th, 2009 at 00:31 | #25

@Kaiju-Z: You have a good point about the knocked out Gohan thing but do you really think Goku being knocked out in lava would leave much?

Bottom line I just think it was the production company slip up. They, just as I, forgot about the Earth’s Dragonballs limit on revival.

Cool looks pretty good. The people who say this movie sucks will see it if they truly like dragonball as much as they say they do they will see it. Also i don’t like how the people don’t think the movie isn’t good because of small details like his hair or the high school. Yeah the high school is not a big deal it a small detail they added. I gurantee it will be like spider-man he wasn’t in high shcool when he was bit and noone complained. The high school part will be five minutes then they will never mention it ever again so don’t complain about that part its not a big deal. The people who are complaining or saying it will suck don’t know anything about Dragonball. Listen to the reasons why and it can easily be disproven. They say Bulma doesn’t have guns but she shot goku with one and the mystics legend is true its in the show. Also Krillin isn’t a big character in this saga he dies before they even know about King Piccolo i just read the manga of the saga again a few days ago so stop complaining about no Krillin. Thanks for reading i know its long

for all those people who are complaining about the movie..stop. Its a anime show turned into a movie, how good would youu have expected it to be. I think they did a great job of tryiing to make it like the cartoon.

Please guys, give the movie a break! If you go to see it expecting it to be exactly like the cartoon yeah you might be disappointed. But can you imagine if it was exactly like the cartoon :? …it would probably be extremely stupid. So, come on, try and enjoy it for the movie version of a fun silly cartoon instead of bitching about how much it’s going to suck for not be exactly the same.

    March 12th, 2009 at 06:03 | #47

This movie in going to blow. It won’t even come close to how good the anime is. If only it could be recreated like The Lord of The Rings was. Now that was upscale blockbuster film making. This definitely looks like a B movie. If your a real fan of DBZ you wouldn’t be happy with a mediocre live action film of this great anime. I believe it deserves top notch treatment which isn’t the case with this flick. I just feel if your going to make a live action flick out of a great anime DO IT RIGHT!!!! Although I think it will suck I will wait for a torrent to come out cause I damn sure ain’t paying for this. Won’t be holding my breath either.

  48. notfordbmovie
    March 12th, 2009 at 19:37 | #48

WOAH. This seriously sucks. This movie looks so lame. How does this capture the fighting style of Dragonball, or even remotely look like Dragonball? Goku took like a minute to jump through the fire, and the whole thing was really lame in terms of a fight sequence. There was nothing clever about it at all, it was just stright up cliche kung fu with the clone fight and then the guy getting tricked by the bad guy.

I hope this movie fails badly now, and I mean BADLY. Hanna Montanna better sweep this movie under the rug. I can’t beleive im saying this, but this movie just needs to die. It looks like such an underrealised film.

The fights just look terrible. I could swear they were using some sort of cheap, cliche film making technique with wires and suspended cables? Not to mention out of place slow motion and horrible coreography. The stunt team for the Matrix did this? Wow, they need a new line of work pronto.

  49. notfordbmovie
    March 12th, 2009 at 19:45 | #49

    @Mianus:

Agreed. The fast hand motion went Dragonball for like 2 seconds, then the rest was just awful. Poorly put together, the dialogue is horrendous, and the scene of Goku raising up with the stupid air blast was really dumb. And the look on Roshis face was just uncalled for. This movie is just unimpressive so far, I have yet to be impressed.

Chances are, these scenes were getting are probably the worst of the film. They look like it. Im guessing the only scene in the movie that’s obviosuly the best is Goku vs. Piccolo. But even then, this whole movie is just probably just garbage. It just does not look good.

  50. March 13th, 2009 at 03:10 | #50

Why didnt they just started this film with Goku been a kid?
With King Piccolo saga? They just should’ve started him as a kid with King Piccolo saga. And put Krillen when ever Goku trains with Master Roshi. Then kill Krillen and Roshi and have a final battle between Goku and King Piccolo. Then after Goku kills King Piccolo he should wish Krillen and Master Roshi back. Then Goku gets train by Kami and return 3 years later to the martial arts tournament (as justin chatwing) to fight Piccolo jr. What is so hard to do that in a movie?
