Budget Revealed? And More Sequel Talk
A newspaper in Chile ran an article on Dragonball: Evolution, and in it the budget of the movie was unveiled. According to the paper, the production budget was only 45 million, much less than the previous $100 million estimates. What this means is the film has already made about half its budget back in Asia alone.
There’s really no doubt now that the film will be profitable, and so sequels are a definite possibility. IGN spoke with Justin Chatwin (Goku) and James Marsters (Piccolo) who were incredibly enthusiastic about the idea… Marsters even wants 6 more films!
He went on: “All I know is I’ve been signed to three movies, but I would like to make five — seven of them. You could just pretty much paint by numbers using the wealth of source material to easily get the seven films. There’s that much there.”
Meanwhile, Chatwin is also obviously thinking about Dragonball as a series of movies, with the actor seeing Evolution as an introduction piece to the wider universe.
He said: “There’s a whole generation of kids waiting to be introduced to Dragonball, so this first movie is really important for that. I mean the main plot is the battle between Piccolo and Goku, but this first film still serves to introduce the characters and where they’re from and what they’re deals are. And so to cover that ground really takes up most of the first movie.”He goes on: “I know what they have in store for the second one and it’s really cool! It’s more in the vein of the Dragonball saga… it goes into other places, there’s other characters, other fighters and there’s a lot of action that is just really awesome.
“It actually goes more into Dragon Ball Z land and it’s just really exciting. It goes into the whole legend of Dragonball. I cant really say more than that, but it made me think this is a cool franchise to be a part off because there’s so much we haven’t shown yet.”
i liked the first movie, it wasnt word for word from dragonball but who cares, thiers plenty room to improve. the original cast is fine. who cares if master roshi isnt like 70.
just hope they make the next movie longer and definetly with longer fights. MUCH LONGER FIGHTS and a better looking dragon. which was one let down i had, the dragon looked well detaild, just very small
I think that the dragon ball movie was one of the worst movie ’s ever made none of the charcter’s had a clue on what type of franschise they was getting into dbz is the greatest anime ever made the first mistake was getting the wrong guy too play goku . they portayed goku in the wrong way come on people he was shot by a bullet if they are going too do another one they really should get somebody too play goku beside that justin guy he really made goku look bad not in a good way he was terrible i hope they can get some real fighter’s too play some of the people the right way . If you are going too try a bring something too life do it with feeling’s. if you rate this movie 1-10 i would give it a 0 that’s how bad it really suck’s i know every dbz thing there is too know i have been too japan and seen how big it is over there. i really think they should let a whole different casts be in the new one if not then leave dbz alone i really thought that this was going too be the movie of the year i was sooooo! WRONG it really was a let down
Sure, more budget will make the sfx better and movie longer, but without the familiar persona, the characters and movie becomes foreign and the essence of that greatness is lost. We the people cherish our memories — especially when it comes to something we love (most people who watch this film are fans of DB, so its okay go with the anime) We’d rather watch something and say “cool! they actually have the hair!” or “haha, that’s so bulma/goku/etc”. I can say almost all of DB fans have been desperate to see someone make this. so its rather really surprising how this mega franchise had so many who already knew about it, yet, the majority disprove of it, and even boycotted it. So, good luck with the next one. I hope it’ll be better.
Good luck!
#804 YES!! WIN!! EPIC!!
but srs:
gonna have to try harder next time buddy. also:
they want to make it moar realistic and stuff. no. gotta have fireballs, super fast fighting (Eg: blurred arms), various aliens, super fast running…
FLYING!! i means seriously. there was no flying until the end.
gotta tell everyone that goku is a saiyan, that piccolo is a namekian, tell everyone about king kai, about chi-chi’s dad, about bulma’s company, etc.
I swear, I hate the fact that the film industry is afraid of making films that are longer than 2.5 hrs.
I would welcome a 5 hour long film that you are supposed to watch as 2 parts.
what is wrong with that? do it!!
