i thought they did great wit the movie,,im not sayn the movie is a must see or Oscar worthy but for a first DBZ movie it showed alot of promise and was actually better than what i would have expected,,,that bein saidl,,it was good cuz of the way they told the story,,,givin you the highlights and important info of the Anime but still keepin it fresh,,,if they would have started the story since Dragon Ball since he was a little kid it wouod have been boring,,,even though he fought King Piccolo when he was a little kid not a teenager like in this movie ,,,,but not a big deal,,,because now in the sequel they will be able to move faster with the storyline of the anime,,,in the next movie comes Raditz and hopefully Vegeta and Nappa too even though it should be Tein i dont think they;ll waste their time on a movie just about the tournaments and Tien,,,get them outta the way…..i wanna see the Frezer saga or movie, one of my personal favorties,,,just cuz Goku turns super sayin for the first time lol,,,The Majin Buu one would be a cool movie too

I think the Film critic in the Mirror newspaper was being way too harsh and idiotic as he rated Dragonball Evolution extremely low. Darn it!

After seeing it, at long last, I can honestly say I ENJOYED it. True, it was a bit short, but I enjoyed it never-the-less. I do hope the sequel is truly well green-lit.

Ok Let me say that you guys are certainly painting a great picture on how the second one should be but cm’on you know that fox will turn there back and do the same they did with the first movie and just wont give a F@@K, I’m not expecting too much just being cautious, I wont be able to take another blow like what they did with DBE……I’m just hoping they would stick to the anime How difficult could it be there’s nothing wrong with cloning the series just this time it’s real people….My take on things 8O Vegeta is their (fox) biggest challenge to perfect and cast correctly…….Only this will wipe some dirt off DBZ that they are responsible for  now.

The movie wasn’t like I expected it would be. The characters didn’t even look like the real characters and all the characters weren’t there. Goku didnt go to skool first of all and second his grampa died from him being squished be the monkey not by the house crashing on him.

  10. May 23rd, 2009 at 10:53 | #10

this movie was xcellent so awesome in part they should give goku the tale of ozaru nd give him the flyin nimbous.bring in krillin, lanch, paru,ox
 king, goku’s fatherdarock, and bother raditz let those be the badguys. let roshi have a love intrest like launch. please call the movie dragoball resurection.

and the best…a yellow kame hame ha… …always yellow xD

I heard they’ll make a second movie…I liked this one and i’ll see the second one too! 8)
Hope the 11.6.09 comes fast…because in switzerland the movie comes to theatres then! 8O it have should started at the 9.4.09 but they let me make wait so much longer

    @darius_luckeharlem
I don’t like transformers at all and Michael Bay is a really really bad director who doesn’t know a think about editing and whose action sequences mainly involve overdone effects and a really shaky camera (which is always kicked punched and tortured to death).
His movies are only popular because of many easily amused people by “big and dumb” films like Armageddon.

I am not comparing the two movies, as production-wise DBE is a joke next to Transformers, but I had a lot more fun watching the former than the latter.

Good examples of a serious take on a not so serious theme are the two recent batman movies. It would have been great if someone was able to do something similar with dragonball, but that’s just wistful thinking now.

I do agree that the movie should have catered for older ppl as well, as most DBZ fans around the world are well over their 20’s.

I think that this movie was terrible. None of the characters were prpoperly portrayed, Goku is a fun loving small kid who is always hungry, not a faggy teen who is obsessed with a girl, in the anime goku wasnt even that interested in girls, and he didn’t have a tail! Bulma didnt have a tail, yamcha wasnt afraid of girls, Roshi was the closest to his character but not nearly as perverted, but roshi was younger than grandpa gohan how can that be if he trained him. If a sequal was to be made they should make the characters closer to who they really are. follow their personality. And where was krillen! GIVE GOKU A TAIL FOR GOD SAKES!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and also the guy that played Goku needs to pack on some muscle, if he is gunna stay a teen, this is the guy who works out every day! I don’t think that the film makers even tried! X ( terrible performence i give it a -38 out of 10

Dam this movie had a great potential to be a very good movie.I had neva herd of the director and he turned dragonball to a shitty ass movie. The cast didnt even fit to the role of the characters.Hopefully they reboot it or if they make a sequel make it more dark and not childish

@bababui: If you’re going to rant at length that ‘nerds and losers’ might like this movie although you thought it a poor production, you might want to invest some time in remembering your Jr. High School-level grammar and running the spell checker.

ALRIGT LISTEN UP, I LOVE THE DRAGONBALL SERIES AND I THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS ALRIGHT BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A WHOLE LOT BETTER. NOW I HERD THAT THE DIRECTOR OF THE MOVIE NEVER REALLY WATCHED DRAGONBALL AND WASNT REALLY A BIG FAN. IF THATS TRUE THATS PROBABLY Y THE MOVIE SUCKED. AND Y WOULD THEY NOT HAVE A CHINESSE PERSON AS GOKU. EVERY ONE IS CHINESS EXCEPT FOR BULMA AND GOKU. I THINK THEY NEED TO RE MAKE THE DRAGONBALL MOVIE AND THIS TIME GET MICHEAL BAY ALL OVER IT. P.S. I WAS KIDDING I DIDNT THINK THE MOVIE WAS ALRIGHT I THOUGHT IT SUCKED. I WAS VERY DISAPOINTED

    I thought it was brilliant ;) ;)
It wasnt as good as the series, and i think it kinda enhanced the plot when you knew what was going on from the anime but still, my friend had never even heard of it before i took her to see it and she LOVED it.. honestly, loved it. I loved it too but i am a die hard fannnn. So her loving it means more than me cause i would love it whatever it was likeeee. But yeah anyway, even though it was pretty cheesy, the casting was okayy the end song was the shizzzzzz
    Good film i say.

uub here, despite no power pole extending & magical cloud flying, I loved the movie. It didn’t meet all of my expectations, but I had to remember this was an anime adaption, this is an older version of DB, but it was cool.

I loved it when Goku forcefully broke out of his oozaru ape state, it’s like when goku returned he became more like in the anime of DB & DBZ, including his hair, his kahmehameha wavewas phenomenal.

I know DBZ is only going to get better from here. Also, I hope they get Tom Welling to play Raditz, think about there bothe tall, strong, & have a good resembelance. & Goku’s ssj 3 hair was originally based on Raditz hair, without all the major detail of the blond look, check in the manga/anime. Oh, about Vegeta Your guess is as good as mine. I rated this movie a 9/10. thanks much your friend uub. :-)

    …I just watched it.
    It’s HORRIBLE.
Everything is just… not right. What the hell is with Goku and all this angst, all this EMO-iness? Goku was happy-go-lucky all the time. I can’t recognise Goku in him AT ALL.
Bulma was too sexy in my opinion. Of course, Bulma is sexy, ok, it’s fine she is sexy. But she was also a very immature girl. And all we have here is sex sex sex. And Yamcha? My god, he didn’t fight at all. And I loved his Roga Fu Fu Ken in anime. What a let down.
The only good character here was Piccolo. Really. And maybe Goku’s grandpa, Gohan. Roshi had his moments but…
…yes, the whole movie just sucked. Why? Because it was TOO SERIOUS. It was full of teen drama, endoftheworld drama and so on. And Dragon Ball, if anything, is COMEDY. I laughed maybe once there. And all this ‘meeting Gohan on the other side’ and Chatwin who smiled like Goku TWO TIMES (I don’t count these ‘almostsmiles’ who are just to reassure but cange quickly into a sad face, which seem to be a trademark smile of Chatwin) was just… too much. And all this Oozaru being a servant of Piccolo… what the hell.
Graphic was not really good but I wouldn’t complain if the movie had a good story. But it hadn’t and it only adds to my dissappointment. Sincerely, I wish they’d change all actors beside Roshi and Piccolo and make it a happy-go-lucky comedy, even if the Saiyan Saga lacks a bit of a DB feeling of it somewhat. Kuririn, I miss you so much.
I don’t dare to think what would they do of Raditz or Vegeta. I just… don’t.
And really, in all this seriousness, I wish the director watched DBZ Abridged. Maybe he would get that it’s not some epic drama like ‘Ghost in The Shell’.
    I’m so dissappointed. 1/5.

i loved the movie, hopeing you make a dragonball Z soon make the raditz or nappa and vegeta fight, that would be something everyone would want to see, i was surprised by some things in this movie there were alot more KI then i expected cause i know about the budget, but one thing i hated was the way goku made a Kamehameha wave your actor needs to see a lillte more dbz :P he should learn the fulle move and say it right, that would blow heads of, and you could have cut oozaru our cause you didn’t make him very good and he wasn’t that big like in the normal dragon ball,, but despite that great movie and it suprised me.

    thumps up from me (:

OKay, first off I havent seen it.. just seen a few clips..
I understand that everyone who hates this movie mainly hates it because its not entirely true to the show, but you have to look at it this way. They have to make it modern, and thats a hard thing to do. You want to be able to reach out to the non DB fans also. I hope they make a sequel just for the sake of knowing what it would be like to have the whole series looked at as a live action movie. Everyone loves a Batman movie right? But then again.. some arent so great. Theirs so many of them now you can choose which one you like best.. I say let them make as many movies as they want of dragonball.. that just gives someone else a platform to make one even better. So yes I would love for them to make as many movies as they want. Even though I havent seen this movie yet.. when I do i’ll know that its not the same as my fav. child hood show… but I know they made it for the fans and thats what counts… I hope to see multiple movies put out for this franchise. It just makes it stronger

Okay I know I haven’t seen every episode of Dragon Ball yet and I don’t every have every manga but I do know this from looking at the information giving on this site that this is a movie I won’t like at all. I’m not a big fan of all the fancy stuff put into this movie. And how the characters are presented I don’t like much either. Okay maybe they wanted to spice up the good ol’ anime but please not some american made action movie, this series is much more than that. It doesn’t look original at all. And where’s the humor all the characters look so serious. My thought about the cast: Roshi-sama looks like the typical martial arts master and Goku like your average unpopular teenager turned into super-hero (reminds me way too much of superman or spiderman). Sure Bulma doesn’t look like arrogant spoiled brat and Chichi like a nagging woman, still I kinda liked them that way. Akira Toriyama made a great series which I thought was very creative but to see it turned into this disaster,oh my. Just failed

    June 6th, 2009 at 03:43 | #25

Honestly even thou I haven’t watched or read the entire series yet,I can say this much about it.Not original at all, just looks like a typical american-like action,kung-fu movie gone wrong.

The fun and freshness of the characters dissapeared only leaving things like: Muten Roshi; weak looking perverted old man in casual clothing with massive power and fighting knowledge, turned into a cliché wise looking martial-arts master. Son Goku; naïve peace-making,food loving monkey boy who looks harmless but is one heck of fighter turned boring unpopular teenager who becomes a super-hero a la Spider Man. Bulma; a fiery arrogant smart and skilled technology expert turned into a pretty girl with brains,a tad boring I suppose. Chichi; a complaining house-wife who cares for her son a bit more than for her carefree husband (haha it just seems like that)with her fighting skills replaced for cooking and cleaning turned into a hot kung-fu babe. Yamcha a rough looking bandit who for me has a funny side as well and is a pretty relaxed dude, turned into a handsome muscled gangster looking type who looks more serious than the actual character. Not to mention that Akira Toriyama’s original work has more creativity and thought to it.

Such a shameless poor attempt of a movie which only goal was to perhaps make more money out of an already hugely popular anime. It looks more like a parody than an actual effort of spicing up the good ol’ anime series and bringing it to modern times.

No offense to the people who already watched it and liked it.

I have seen the anime more than 8times…all of it db,dbz, and dbgt…I dont blame them the did a cheap job….well there were changes for example the Eternal dragon made by the guardian of the earth kami…Dragonball’s are made from the namek’s..ozaru is a monster that each saiyan can transform to if he has a tail and the pluswaves from the moon or from artificial ways like Vegeta did to the fight with goku….Eternal dragon wasnt like the anime at all…it wasnt a giant green dragon with the endless tail..and ozaru was more like king kong,at anime ozaru was way bigger that this one…anyway…When i saw that the movie will be rebooted i was happy but not for long..the think i realised was that they didnt respected dragonball by making such a short and senseless movie… the movie was like it was incomplete…Dont mention the KI waves…the kamehameha wasnt nothing like the anime..anyway…For me the best of all was Master roshi, pervented as always.Goku at anime never tried to impress someone..The only thing he was interested with was with food and fighting…

    honest thought.
    it SUCKED !!!!
i was disappointed completely with the way it turned out, as some others said in their responses, its just another american kung fu wanna be gone all wrong!
Goku’s character didnt fit into the anime personality at all, but i have to say master roshi was my favorite through out the movie, but i dont see why goku didn’t have his tail??
or why if it is suppose to hold the name “DRAGONBALL”. why is goku a teen? he should be at the age of a toddler.

well anyways, the movie writer or whoever, should have done more research on this anime.

lets hope if they do plan on coming out with part 2, they get it right, and better. if not, they should consider leaving good animes alone
