def going to purchase it on blu-ray to see what was left out. but i went back and re-read the interview with wong at http://www.mania.com/james-wong-exports-dragonball_article_114296.html

In retrospect you can see what it was about the manga that he chose to focus on, you can see what it was that captivated him. And its almost as if he was a little off from what captivated the general public with dragonball. So i don’t really expect the deleted scenes to add much to what was lacking in the film.

With manga there leaves a lot to be interperted, which lets your imagination fill in the blanks. That is what makes manga great, it allows you some room to project your interpertation based on your personality into how you precieve the characters, storyline, pace and feel of the story. It seems as if what was catching wongs eyes was the back ground. This unblieveable fantasy world with this over the top story in the forground. Since thats what he saw he just tried to water it down for the general public rather than just emphasising the character personalities and driving factors behind the story. I think that if he had watched the anime which had already been interperted and developed for the public instead of using the manga for his adaption the film would have turned out completely different.

Wow…thats fast. You can always tell if a movie is bad by how fast they release it. Dark Knight=6 months, Watchmen=5 months, Dragonball:Evolution=3 months

found the justin chatwin interview, and it shows alot of the deleted fight scenes with piccolo( one where they fight hand to hand on the ground, one were piccolo slams goku’s face into a wall and then slams him on the ground, and more). these scenes gotta be the deleted scenes and i hope that somehow this will be added to the whole movie somehow. its a lil obvious with some of the scenes in here, were the reshoots took place. the fighting is pretty violent. and justin hits on alota real good notes about the film, the characters, and his perspective on what the film is captivating.

@kaiocris: I just read that interview, and yes I do understand what he was doing, but I still think he missed the mark. And I agree with the things you said as well, minus the Anime part. It doesn’t matter if you do an adaptation from the anime or the manga (though I enjoyed the manga more so maybe i’m biased), Dragonball is still fantastic, and the whole “other worldly” ideas are what make the story so unique and quintessentially Dragonball. It just confirms to me that Wong really didn’t understand it. As much as he enjoyed it and researched the series, he just wasn’t the right guy for the job…I’m still buying the DVD though :P i’m a looser like that

@kame: PLEEAAAASE put it on youtube!!!!!!!! Begging you!

AAND random question, are the special features going to be available on the DVD or just the blu-ray?

It was a very good interview. You can tell that Chatwain was a bit skeptical himself about this movie. I wonder if he was talking about this site when he mentioned visiting a site full of fanatics….lol

alright guys, bad news. hulu has some sort of protection on downloading and saving ther videos, similar to netflix. ive used quite a few tools i have plus some new ones i downloaded and nothing seems be able to save the file. so in short, the only thing ill be able to do is literaly grab a video camera and record the episode for u guys. should have it up by tomorrow evening(pacific time) :D sry its takin so long.

@kame: So I watched the video you put the link up for…that was actually pretty cool. Justin seems like an alright guy and its good to know how dedicated he was to everything he did.

He did well for the role he was given, I can give him that. To be honest, I don’t think anyone could really do better with the situation Fox provided with everything it did. Here’s to a second film with the money to hopefully back a good story.

Apparently there will be no extended cut. Some new info was added here: http://www.fanboyreview.net/2009/05/13/dragonball-evolution-z/

“Having watched a screener of the “Z-Edition” film with two other staff members, I think it’s probably likely that “Z-Edition” is just what they will be calling the DVD instead of special edition, or any other name and not necessarily signifying a new cut of the movie. Will update if we get any more info on it.”

So much for an exteneded cut. :(
