James Marsters Confirms Sequel?

According to James Marsters, a sequel to Dragonball: Evolution isn’t just speculation, but reality. From Civilized James:

In Spring and Summer, I’m on tour in Europe. Check for dates and ticket on www.jamesmarsters.com. And then we’ll start shooting the second Dragonball movie. (grins) I’ve just heard that I can actually tell that there is going to be a sequel.

Of course, things can always change in Hollywood, so don’t take this as the final word. Let’s just hope that if true, they treat the sequel with a lot more respect.

    Zgirl: There will be a sequel the press allready knew it before James said anything. I’m guessing that Joon Park won’t be in the sequel hence why he didn’t knew about it.

    can anybody translate this???
    basically it says that there will be a second movie .. :lol:

    More news :P
    it says that because of the fury of the fans the script is beeing rewrited by james wong :( , that´s the reason of the delay of the shooting that will not be i the summer but in september, and that they are looking for a very build up body actor it says that maybe is for ten shin han but my guess it´s nappa. and 3 other actors with long hair .. and more but if some translate it´s better

    Thats pretty cool that he is rewriting it because the fans are pissed but hopefully its good enough

    @helioSSJ: Thanks for the news, but to be honest I’m more scared than ever before! lmao, The whole Wong thing has got me worried, not gonna lie. And of course the fact that Fox will most likely ruin it, even IF Wong steps up…really not liking the scenario. I wish I could read French (those articles are in french right? :P ), they look very informative lmao!

    and yes i can´t believe that wong is still in the project becuse is rewriting the story because of the fans but the fans dont want him…
    fox is a very strange company…..
    i don´t understand the only thing that i hope is that the next two movies are better done but 50 millions isn´t much..
    in the begining fox had put apart 300 millions for the dragon ball triology now they are spending half the original budget.. can´t understand that but……………… we will see…

    “Actor tough, with the expéricience in the trade, to play in a big Hollywood film. ” That could be early announcement by the director James Wong and scoiété production directs the film, Twentieth Century Fox. It is now a virtual certainty: the film live manga cult of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Evolution, will undergo a second adjustment. While James Marsters announced last week that would emerge later in 2010, today the South American newspaper El Siglo, said in its issue of the day as a result of the film by James Wong should undergo some changes. “Changes” as the newspaper announcement, expected as early as August. While the shooting will start in September …

    According to the same source, Eriko Tamura (Mai) and Joon Park (Yamcha) and students will not be renewed in this second opus. Thus, management is currently seeking a person of great size with a big build (Ten Shin Han?) And three other medium-sized with fairly long hair, the newspaper informs us. Research has already begun but no name has yet been mentioned in the premises of FOX.

    According to a close the file contacted by us, one of the employees working on the project, we said this. “I know that many fans are against this new direction. I respect that, but know that any team is to build on this project. This has always been a major concern of James Wong to make a trilogy, it’s just that we never thought that FOX would give us this opportunity. However, I can not tell you anything more, we expect to confirm this result. “We said one of the employees of the FOX”

    thats kind of what it says in english
    i used google to translate it so in some parts it may not make sence

    This is just a wish list. I want a Dragonball movie that is as fantastic as possible. I want to see Tien with three eyes! i dont care if it’s not believable. i want to see the Flying Nimbus dammit! Piccolo needs to stretch his arms when he fights, (not all the time…maybe once.) I want to see Krillin with those 6 monk dots on his fore-head. and krillin shouldn’t have a nose obviously. i want to see a giant Great Ape. Sky scraper size, mo fos. i want to see the blood. i want all the emotion the anime has. i want to see piccolo’s antennae. i want the fighters to get bigger when they power-up. i want the energy blasts and/or balls to look more like the anime. i want it to look exactly the same as the anime. the way the energy blasts and/or balls looked in the anime is perfect the way it is. i dont think anyone hates the way the energy blasts look in the anime. i know its too much to ask for. This is just a wish list. I WANT A DRAGONBALL MOVIE TO BE AS FANTASTIC AS POSSIBLE…TALKING ANIMALS AND ALL. I DONT CARE IF ITS UNBELEIVABLE. ITS SUPPOST TO BE UNBELEIVABLE…ITS A MOVIE. ITS ENTERTAINMENT!

    June 18th, 2009 at 09:43 | #25

    @stephen: actually ben ramsey wrote about 5 drafts acording to him (i doubt he would publicly lie about this),, his original draft was way more faithful to dragonball than what was used, but was too budget prohibitive (those are his words) and james wong used one of his drafts and REWROTE it.. so the final script was done by wong,, not ben ramsey,, id love to see ben ramseys original script though

    anyway, i think wong already proved how mediocre he is,, he had the dragonball storyline served to him, and he translated it into a such a bad movie,, im not saying its easy, just saying he did a horrible job at it
    he doesnt deserve another chance,, let someone else, who is already a proven director-writer, have that chance

    @helioSSJ: I don’t feel like translating everything. Essenially, it states that Akira Toriyama must be very dissapointed because DBE bombed. The fans are up and arms at DBE destroying their beloved franchise. Also, Fox expected to rake in 300 million but the movie only made 56 million (so far anyway). Then they delve in Marster’s interview stating that a sequel should be out in 2010. Its a very hot topic and the fans seem split.

    17 June 2009
    CONFIRMED: DRAGON BALL WILL BE RESET AND NEW TRILOGY

    Agencies | El Bravo

    After the U.S. producers experienced a major failure with the signing of Dragon Ball: Evolution, we get information from our correspondents in Miami that Dragon Ball will be restarted and not only that, but also confirmed a forthcoming trilogy.

    Such confirmation said the spokesman for 20th Century Fox, Abraham Sullivan:

    “If we have another movie (Dragon Ball), we are currently discussing the resumption of the trilogy” Sullivan said our correspondent.

    “The only problems we have are the scripts are not finished yet and will be reviewed by our executives, as well as walk in the search for a new director to make such delivery” said the spokesman for the Fox

    Dragon Ball: Evolution was a big failure in 2009, so we are very slope of the next installment of this famous series. 8O

    June 18th, 2009 at 14:43 | #30

    @nanjiro

    It is confirmed by James “I have lied so much about this movie, no one will believe a word I say” Masters and in an interview conducted in april and released in may, so……. it reallly isn’t going to happen, this movie hasn’t managed to break even (let alone make a profit) and even Wong stated that the sequel depended on the American box office doing good which we all know was beyond horrible.

    So would you really believe someone that stated that Piccolo would begin old and decrepit and get younger (I’m sorry maybe if he had been in the movie longer than 8 minutes, they could have portrayed that better, or maybe Masters thinks that having a hood makes you old and decrepit and not having it makes you young), that the budget for the movie was 100 mill, that the fight between him and Chatwin had forced them to trust each other since it had been physically demanding for both of them, that the fans would enjoy it, etc, etc.

    In fact since Masters confirmed it, I’m positive it won’t happen.

    @The Seeker: Yeaa entertaining is one thing, but being unoriginal is something entirely different. Toriyama already did all the amazing things you can do for DB, so we need someone else to take it one step further…and if that means that Krillin has a friggin nose, or that the energy blasts are not EXACTLY the same, so be it. But your right, its not a stupid idea to add in some of the little details like the animal people or w/e. As long as the next one has AMAZING action and interesting character development (something you don’t see alot of in the anime) then I’ll be happy.

    @chago: Thanks for the translation! lol

  33. Zgirl
    June 18th, 2009 at 17:53 | #33

    @Son Goku: Yea thats exactly what I think. You can’t blame any of them, cuz they didn’t make any of the changes or crap like that.

    Just random thinking about the whole “to stay true or not stay true to the source” thing…I just feel that if I’m going to see a movie, I wanna see a kickass movie. Like for example, with Transformers…I don’t know the source material except through that 3D cartoon that was on a LONG time ago, “Beasties” (or “Beast Wars” if you’re American). So when I saw that, I only knew the basics aand some of the characters names, but I loved that movie cuz it kicked ass!! It was a good MOVIE and not because it was based off Transformers, it was just great on its own. I have NO idea if the die hard fans of Transformers would agree with me or not, and for all I know they could’ve hated what was done. But either way that movie was a good movie! SO my point is, that the treatment of DB should be no different. If you wanna change the story from the source material, FINE! Whatever, go nuts! But for christ sake, make it worth our while!! Cuz I will totally be willing to forget all the little things that I loved about DB when going to see this movie, so long as the favour is returned with a movie that will blow my mind!

  34. gram18
    June 19th, 2009 at 08:17 | #34

    @Zgirl:
    Though I hated Transformers, I agree with the point you are trying to make. It doesn’t matter if the movie is faithful to the little details, as long as they nail the basics and go out and make a good action movie.
    @The Seeker:
    I never like the talking animals in DBZ, I think it’s a distraction from the tone of the series, plus in DBZ they don’t do much apart from hanging around.
    In any case, I think talking animals, a noseless Krillin or a 3 eyed Tien (I’d love if they could find a way to have a 3-eyed Tien actually without it looking weird and distracting) would look downright creepy in a live-action film and alienate anyone not familiar with the series.

    @Zgirl:
    I don’t hate everything he’s done, but I do think his movies are really flawed. My favorite Bay movie is by far the Rock, it’s not as uneven as the rest. I guess the island was also passable, despite the universal beating it got.
    I just don’t like that so many fans suggest that Bay would be a good director for Dragonball. He’s no Cameron, Spielberg, Fincher etc. I don’t think he would be able to offer much more than pyrotechnics and to me Dragonball is so much more than just pyrotechnics.

    June 22nd, 2009 at 01:17 | #41

    the reason i dont want bay doing a db or dbz movie is because he’ll just skip the development and story and just add special effects. and one of the reason we love db and dbz is the story and characters the fighting is just basically a plus. so yea no bay and its also not his style, i rather have GULLMEO DEL TORRO. and yea zgirl your right he defiently gave dbe a way better treatment to transformers than db

    i say for a db movie nail the story and main characters personality and have some cool action scenes and when you get to z(espically frieza saga) go all out on the fighting and energy blast. and add little cameos and details for the fans. but for me no talking animals i mean people would just be like oh great more cgi talking animals i mean it would be great to have oolong and bulma saying piggy piggy lol but it just wouldnt go great for a movie but theres more fanisty in dragonball then just talking animals

    June 22nd, 2009 at 05:53 | #43

    @gram18: Yea I would agree with you on that, he’s obviously not the most spectacular director out there. Although the DB/Z series are action cartoons, there is still a lot more to them than that, so we could definitely use someone who can find a balance between action and compelling plots.
    @DB/Z/GT FAN: Yea that’s honestly all i care about as well, the characters and the story. The fighting was great, but as its been stated DB is much more than a bunch of muscle heads beating on each other. lol

    the first one was good, but as any one can tell with all other sequels, this next one is going to be a fuck of a lot better, in the end it is hard enough to make a live action movie out of a cartoon like dragonball z, it takes a lot of time and money, but its about time they did, and there is already talk of a third one coming out, sweeeeeeeeeeeet! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

    July 9th, 2009 at 17:53 | #45

    If the sequel does in fact happen, I hope they do the World Tournament that happens at the end of DB before moving on to the Saiyan Saga. Perfect chance to introduce Tien, the Crane Hermit, make Yamcha look some kind of competant, and do much better fight scenes!
    As for the Saiyan Saga, anyone else notice at the beginning of the movie, they said that Piccolo AND an Oozaru attacked Earth 1000 years in teh past? That puts Saiyans on Earth WAY before Goku! If they do the Saiyan Saga, let it be Nappa (Nathan Jones) and Vegeta (anyone BUT Robert Patinson) from the start, and play it off as Goku being sent to Earth to see why Raditz hadn’t got the job done.
    As for directing, Guillermo del-Toro would be alright, but I want a movie that’s not just cool-looking makeup and sets. The producer of DBE was Stephen Chow, director of Kung-Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer. Just have Stephen and James Wong switch roles and the fighting’ll be squared off. As well, Stephen’s style of directing is very anime-style, with the characters’ mannerisms and style of storytelling.
    And I want DRAGONBALL fights, not DRAGONBALL Z fights. DBZ fights rely on flying around, energy blasts and burst-zone fighting for the awesomez. DB fights were more martial-art oriented, having a lot more fighting and a lot less light-speed filler-fighting. The Goku-Piccolo fight in DBE: DBZ fight. Mai vs Chi Chi: DB fight.
