Fox Wants to Reboot Dragonball?

You know the drill. Take this with a grain of salt, Fox sucks, and so on.

After the U.S. producers experienced a major failure with the signing of Dragon Ball: Evolution, we get information from our correspondents in Miami that Dragon Ball will be restarted and not only that, but also confirmed a forthcoming trilogy.

Such confirmation said the spokesman for 20th Century Fox, Abraham Sullivan:

“If we have another movie (Dragon Ball), we are currently discussing the resumption of the trilogy” Sullivan said our correspondent.

“The only problems we have are the scripts are not finished yet and will be reviewed by our executives, as well as walk in the search for a new director to make such delivery” said the spokesman for the Fox.

So, Fox is (allegedly) discussing a reboot that would potentially kick start a trilogy. “…Cool.” This comes from a blog on HoyCinema, which is about as reliable as James Marsters.

UPDATE: It’s fake, folks.

I don’t think they should reboot the movie just make the next one bigger and better.

  13. June 18th, 2009 at 17:13 | #13

    FOX is going crazy :P
    Reboot already?

    I liked the actors :T

I think a spinf-off would be a better idea, but whatever, just want to see Dragonball on the big screen again

    June 18th, 2009 at 17:13 | #14

This to me is great news. It’s kind of like the hulk movie, they just had to make another one to do it right. They need to do the same with this. Also, Fox if you actually check this stuff out. Stay true to Akira Toriyama’s vision, you will truly get a good movie then. A new Director is a must. It just has to have the look and feel of DragonBall, and a really violent hardcore DBZ movie would be just awesome. I mean, DBZ is all about the fighting and violence and if it’s not there, it aint DragonBall. Give the people what they want! Please!!!!

What exactly do they mean by reboot? Cuz to me, that means disregarding the last one aand starting all over again…that just seems awkward and basically saying to the world “oh we f***d up…my baad, but here, enjoy a new one!” lmao…but w/e. We’ll see what happens.

  16. helioSSJ
    June 18th, 2009 at 17:27 | #16

@Zgirl: i think they will reeboot but this time start un dbz world
like they entended a few years ago

    June 18th, 2009 at 17:36 | #17

@helioSSJ: I just see it as a slap in their own face you know? lol Its kinda funny. I’ll be a little ticked (but not much really) if they changed the cast. I know they didn’t say that, but that’s what a reboot means to me. I really wanted to see what they could do under better circumstances…but oh well! I’m just glad someone from Fox finally said something. lol

    June 18th, 2009 at 17:40 | #18

Do the story/script right change the director and keep the same actors, the actors did there best with what they were given and with how they were directed so the fault is not theres.

    June 18th, 2009 at 17:42 | #19

i really think they are keepping some of the cast but like@Zgirl: said to me a reeboot is change all for fox i don´t know

    June 18th, 2009 at 17:55 | #21

Well, doesn’t “resumption” mean that they’re continuing the trilogy? I mean, I know I’m not the brightest bulb in the box, but the root word of resumption is resume… Am I wrong?

  22. Zgirl
    June 18th, 2009 at 17:58 | #22

@helioSSJ: Yea I guess you can assume they’re keeping some people considering that Marsters is going around telling everyone he’s Piccolo again, lmao! I dunno its so confusing and too soon to care. lol Besides my faith in Fox is lowering by the minute soo I don’t know what to think.

  23. Zgirl
    June 18th, 2009 at 18:00 | #23

@Elemdai: lmao these people just throw out big words to feel good! I wouldn’t read into it. I doubt they know what they’re doing at this point

Even though I loved DBE a reboot sounds really good!!! I just want to see Dragonball on the big screen again lol, well I live in miami, so I was wondering if maybe I can go to the headquarters of fox or something down here and ask them personally, and then we’ll have even more evidence, so if any of you know where Fox is located down here, please let me know, because I will stop by and ask them and if they don’t want to answer me I will harass them until they do :)

GOOD this movie sucked. we need at least a 15 year old to play goku and master roshi has to be old. and no more unintentionally funny last fight scenes. im glad fox got a taste of their own medicine.

Fox, Keep marsters but scrap the rest! James is the only person gung ho on being the actual character and skip DB, go straight to Z. I was 13 watching the us dbz replays and that was like 10 years ago. We all want a Matrix type movie ala action, cinema and story. I mean, it’s really not puzzling why it bombed. That PG crap was for kids who only know DBZ through the countless video games. We want balls to the wall action, Huge climatic battles and intense story lines. I’d settle, which would be a dream, if you went older such as hulk and iron man and got the perfect goku in Keanu Reeves. None of this wave my hands, idk what im doing bc im from canada bs, kamehameha! This trilogy, if rebooted and james kept, could be as big as the matrix with all the asian fans and 20 yoa plus US fans. Don’t f this up as this really appears to be the last chance you or anybody else will get to make this movie for the next 20 years!

    Sincerely,

Person speaking for 9/10 of everyone!

  30. June 18th, 2009 at 18:27 | #30

@townsend242003: I’m the 1/10 in that case, cuz Keanu Reeves? Seriously? LOL

    June 18th, 2009 at 18:30 | #31

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So they are already admitting that this one sucked? To quote Christian Bale, “GOOOOD FOR YOUUU!!!!!” IF this is true I’m not going to be buying the DVD of Evolution just to see if the new DB movie will be packaged with it when/if  it comes out.

    June 18th, 2009 at 18:31 | #32

just get a 15 year old unknown with some martial arts skills and black hair. thats it lol. i actually didnt mind gokus hair at the END of this movie. and if they happen to do a remake i dont want to laugh at unintentionally funny fight scenes especally if it is the climax of the movie. Chatwin was ridiculous and deserves to be castrated by a goat

Great news. They better do it good this time. Dragonball has so much potential to turn out to be a great movie. I’d like to see a 200-250mil budget for the first movie and a great storyline that shows off Dragonball the way it should be. I Don’t mind starting in DB and then continueing in DBZ, having the red ribbon army and piccolo with all the normal DB characters would be great but indeed difficult for it to turn out as a great movie.. it will require some talented workers. It may probably be easyer to start of at Z, or for them to wait and spectate how the Avatar movie turns out and then taking idea’s from there to work on DB. Hopefully the reboot will not take any longer than 3-4 years. Also I woulden’t mind having Stephen Chow taking the lead over the movie and inputting his idea’s a bit this time, but maybe also some (Japanese) writers that have knowledge about Dragonball.. James Wong worked too individually (and the budget was way too low), something like a Dragonball movie that wants to be close to it’s source material needs teamspirited thinking of people that know a lot about the genre and Dragonball itself.

    June 18th, 2009 at 18:39 | #34

i think Stephen Chow would be a great director for dragonball. i just watched cj7, kung fu hustle, and shaolin soccer this week and i LOVED them. it is clear that he was inspired by dragonball fighting so why not put him as director. he could play master roshi!! lol

I think if they decide to do a reboot that it should be completely unlike the manga to where the actual public can agree with, if you stick to the same story ideas it will be hard for people to understand, I think if they do this they need to make it way more different than the original storylines, I know everyone likes to stay to the facts but if they keep it that way people won’t come because of the storyline, they won’t come because of the complexity, you just have to understand that people are not very adaptable to long meaning and lengthy anime adaptation, if they do this it has to be understandable right from the get go and really there’s only two ways to make a reboot, exact to the story or far from it, the problem with DBE is that they tried to find some place in between which really is impossible, I really hope they just shoot this idea It’s probably going to do bad no matter what, it is an adaptation anyway…

I liked DBE and wanted a DBE sequel, but if this does happen and a reboot is done…well…SCOO
I like Hulk and want a sequel, BUT I like The Incredible Hulk a lot more so…if a reboot is done its fine but they need to kept some of the actors, mainly J-Mars

man, if this is true,, then this is the best news i could possibly get
but im not going to get hyped yet,,, this could be fake,, but i really, really hope its true,, dragonball deserves a reboot, a new director and script writer,, and a decent budget,, i hope they do it right this time around,, if they do it

but honestly, it doesnt make much sense for them to do this,, and so fast as well,,, its weird,, evolution is still in the theaters in some countries,,,

i still hope this is true,, that would be amazing,, a new hope :D
