Dragonball Z is way more popular than Dragonball, so it would make sense to go to the Saiyan saga now. It’s so more popular that most complaints about DBE were about it not being like DBZ. He doesn’t have to do the “no balls “scene.
I don’t think your argument is valid, if a DB movie was produced with a decent budget north of 100 mil and only the DB fans showed up in the theaters, it would flop miserably.

You must feel stupid… look at the teaser trailer for avatar the last airbender released, they cast a child actor to paly Aang (I´m unsure but I know he’s not older than 16) that knows martial arts and so far it seems to remain faithful to the cartoon. So there you go, a studio did follow the path you said no one would and it seems to be faithful, let’s see how that does at the box office.

To be honest its different with The last Airbender. When I watched the show I honestly could see a good movie from a live action movie of Avatar it doesn’t have dumb things in the movie like dinosaurs and talking animals it was more toned down from DB. Avatar can appeal to everyone cause it’s more down to earth and not really “out there” like DB was when i heard that an Avatar movie was coming out I thought that I could see a good movie from it since it was down to earth and not every character wasn’t useless as the series went on the show was great because it was influenced by anime like (samurai shamploo and cowboy bebop like the creators said) but had an american feel to it.

Also when i heard that a DB movie was being made i couldn’t see it at all with all the talking animals and dinosaurs when there are humans living and goku acting like the dumbest person in the world (except when he’s fighting of course he a fighting genius) I love DB and DBZ but it depends on the source material on how a live action movie its not just simply just change stuff for no reason or dont change a thing cause they are changes for a reason on the movie from particular source materials. A DB movie copied and paste will simply NOT WORK it would be possibly the WORST movie that I’ve and anyone else will ever see. I was entertained by DBE yes I LIKE THE MOVIE in my opinion it was entertaining. But like ive said more people would appeal to Avatar than DB today cause its more down to earth and not in your face like DB but Avatar in its own right was awsome. DB was awsome but there were more cartoonish and cheesy things in that show than Avatar so its much easier to make an Avatar the Last Airbender Movie than a DB or DBZ movie. Also I can see a kid play Anng in the avatar movie cause in the cartoon he was mature for his age and also have a goofy side but a 16 year old playing goku whos an complete idiot except when hes fighting and doesn’t know how to count until later in the show wouldn’t be a smart thing to do in my opinion.

I totally agree with you. That’s why I believe the movie should be inspired by drgonball, keep the dragonball spirit, but by all means change stuff to make sense. DBE mostly succeeded in doing that, there are some things I’d rather they had taken a different approach, but really, when people start talking about a noseless Krillin, talking pigs etc. I’m amazed they don’t see that these stuff do not translate well on a live action film.

Using The Hulk is a stupid reference, to be honest, as the franchise is a dead one at that. Prior to its big-budget adaptations, The Hulk was practically a dead comic franchise with nearly no fanbase. This can also be said about most of the popular American comic adaptations that have become popular over the years.

Dragonball has a very solid fanbase, that continues to pay. This is why Dragonball merchandise (for its cartoon portion) is still cranked out in masses today. You can’t really compare other comic / cartoon properties (prior to film adaptation) to Dragonball, seeing as how before those big-budget adaptations the merchandise for such were non-existent.

If FOX, or anyone launched a big-budget film trilogy of Dragonball, using skilled and talented people, they’d open up a new door for the fandom to indulge itself in, and it would surely rake in that other % from non-comic/cartoon fans and casual fans, similar to how all of those other franchises do from the adaptations–and as I said, does not in the least justify the fanbase.

what they should do is keep what they have, but do another dragonball movie that tells the rest of the dragonball story(because if you notice dbe, they skipped alot of the material). another db movie is the best thing to do. they already have dbe, so they should fill in the blanks in the second movie. in the dragonball story piccolo comes back after goku defeats him for the first time, at that point goku was around 15 years old, around the age that goku was in dbe. make piccolo get young again and make him look like the piccolo we all recognize. like it did in the anime, goku and piccolo fight an incredible battle in the martial arts tournament. if they do it right they could put more db characters(like krillin and tien!). to make the characters more like the show, here are a few ideas:
-make master roshi go through a mid-life crisis and give him a bald spot on his head and give him a pet turtle.
-make piccolo get young
give yamcha a cat
- make a fat guy be oolong.lol

dbe was basically the basic story of a hero. like the forbidden kingdom on a low budget. in the end of dbe, goku was more like the goku we know. so in the second movie he should be like the goku we know and love. after that, then they could do dbz. if you notice, db and dbz are VERY different. dbz is a lot more serious and violent. so when they get to Z, it should be more serious. and who knows, with a decent crew, script, and buget, if it is a success and every loyal Dragonball fan supports it, they could even go though the whole series.

why wouldnt you guys want talking animals or krillin being short or even goku being young? its what made dragonball what it is, and if you dont want that then you obviously don want a real dragonball movie. im glad they are remaining faithful because M. Night Shamilan mustve heard about this movie and laughed and thaought to himself “not avatar fans, they wont have to sit through that crap” this movie gets me so pissed it was truly terrible. just make dragonball wat it is, a story about a monkey boy who gets caught up in a search for the 7 dragonballs. with the talking animals and short krillin.

Oh god, I don’t think I can take another one of these. The thing was so damn horrible and the experience of seeing it sucked so badly I don’t have the heart left for it > < The only thing that could get me back in the theatre for more American Dragonball is a guaranteed hour of mockery of Vegeta. Nothing short of that would convince me to waste more money and gas.

But if they do do this? Fire everyone. Keep Bulma, Muten and the costume designer and fire everyone else from the director to the publicist to the janitor.

@Destroyer: You should know its the FIRST airbinder trailer, if you compare it to DBE’s first trailer its GREAT!!! And the movie will come out in 2010 so it has plenty of time to make batter trailers.

I could totally beleive that FOX might reboot Dragonball. (They rebooted the Hulk movie, and it was way better than the first one too!) I just hope that they’ve actually paid attention to our suggestions for making it better. meaning:
-They find a different director, not some loser whos never made an action movie
-A better script without crappy dialogue but more character development
-NOT PG RATED!!! THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!!! Hell Id make DB rated R! People got holes punched through them and arms ripped off all the time! But its FOX so theyre going to push for a rating that kids can go to see, but Christ, its fucking dragonball! Its all about the fights!! And killing bad guys!
- More research! Its like none of DBE had anything to do with the Dragonball series. (Bulma had guns through out the whole DBE movie when in the show, she used guns once, and it was when she met Goku for the first time.) Not to mention the whole Piccolo and Oozaru team bullshit. How could Piccolo instantly tell that Goku was Oozaru?! And how the fuck could Piccolo control him. Hes a fuckin monster on a rampage WHENEVER THERE’S A FULL MOON!!!!! That lunar eclipse bullshit was so tacked on. All the changes fox made were so unnessisary. If they would have just read the comic and watched the show this would have been very easy to film. FUCK HOLLYWOOD!!!!

You know, I am glad that they are going to re-do it but I actually saw and liked the movie. I liked the fresh start of Dragonball, the effects were awesome and so was the plot. I admit the idea that Piccolo having no attenae and Goku not having a tail was wrong (major fan of DB and DBZ! so I can spot these things), but over all I did enjoy the movie. I am really looking forward to a MUCH BETTER, IMPROVED AND ADVERTISED movie and looking forward to the series. I know that if they are going to do it they have to get a really great and awesome set of people to portray Goku and Vegeta. And a guy who is a swordmaster, knows how to street fight and do martial arts, and look great with blue and green eyes, and purple and gold hair, to portray Future Trunks. Future Trunks is the third favorite character in the anime series so he has to be done extremely well. The Androids 17 and 18 have to be done extremely good too. No one less than perfect can pull off them, and if even one of these are done wrong the series will flop!
