Hobbit movie??? didnt hear about that

I skipped it in the movies, but decided to check it out on pay-per-view. Simply dreadful movie. Acting was lackluster, story was filled with plotholes and scenes seemed pasted in as filler. How this movie could be released under the dragonball name is disgraceful.

i saw the movie it was wack.it didnt make since.it was a whole diffrent story.his granpa didnt die when he turn 18 yrs old.thats a LIE.fox whow.the orphen was good bt dragonball nt good.u turn a master piece into crab.i didnt even see the endimg.

dont get me wrong man, i truly, deeply hate db evolution. but i was one of its biggest supporters up until i saw it.

i definitely want a dragonball movie reboot (or at least a sequel to this crap), but being realistic, that is nearly impossible. i still have a tiny little hope that there will be one though.

personally i think dragonball has lots of potential to be one of the greatest movies ever. even better than the star wars movies(which i love :p). thats how big dragonball evolution should have been. and thats why i hate so much db evolution, because i know how good a dragonball movie could have been

It’s all a lie, these stories are all made up, so they can be told in many different ways. It doesn’t matter when his grandpa dies, it doesn’t change the movie for the better or the worst!

If there making a sequel or remake for this movie, they should have a new director or someone that can make a decent great movie cause they made DBE look bad. I still like it despite it.

DragonBall Evolution was one of THE worst movies i’ve ever senn in my life…..I’m an avid DB, DBZ, and DBGT fan and this movie is a disgrace to all of human life…..if i had a dollar for every time something bad happened in this movie; i could buy the island Master Roshi was supposed to live on. It was so off….Piccollo had no antannae and yamcha looked more like a japanese Fabio….ChiChi was a whore and Goku was a white boy that had to weigh about ten pounds six ounces. I mean even Harry Potter was closer to the books…..And the Oozaru form was stupid….He grew about .5 inches and just looked like an ape in the Congo….Nimbus wasn’t in their, Ooblong? Staff? Kamehamaha used to heal? I spent 5 dollars on this piece of public hair…..can i at least get a poorly drawn black man like in the show? I will execute myself if i ever have to see this poopy movie again………SHAME ON YOU AKIRA TORIYAMA

i didnt know what to say about the tripe they turned this movie into ,,,did the guys that wrote the screenplay even see the cartoon before or was it just a best scene clip reel because they lost it so bad with this lame-o story line they should have had jackie chan playing some messed up version of Mr Satan ,,,,,i dunno i was speechless when i finished the movie because it was so far off from what it should have been i was very disappointed :{

It’s close enough. Complain that Goku was acting very differently to the one we know from the anime, that had an actual impact on the film. The date of his grandpa’s death is irrelevant to the quality of the movie. It doesn’t hurt to tell the story differently, as long as the movie is actually good. Do you know how different Spiderman is from the source material?

Just throwing my 2 cents in on the discussion b4 with t-moore, gram18 nd stephen:
I agree with what you guys are saying 100%. DB/Z never had a plot, and Akira never had a set plan for ANY of it (hence why I luv it), so the fact that people are over dramatic about the plot and call it the worst movie ever, is retarded. However, I would’ve personally preferred that the people who did this movie improved the randomness of DB/Z, instead of rolling with it. I think the DB/Z story can’t work as is for a movie, so the people in charge SHOULD’VE been a little creative and made it better. The most important part of DB/Z is the characters, NOT the plot, so who cares how different it is?

On a random note, I thought Chatwin played an awesome Goku…keep in mind the script was a baad and NOT his fault. I think the problem was that the director (or whoever) had a new idea for the character while Chatwin looked more to the source material and tried to bring that out, but it didn’t work because the character was doing things he would NEVER do, and saying things he’d NEVER say, so Chatwin just looked retarded half the time. But at those rare rare moments when the character was doing “Goku-like” things, I could see that Chatwin was the right guy. I just wish the character had been more consistent for others to notice it too.

I totally agree with you on that Justin Chatwin wasnt a bad idea to play as Goku. To be honest im very statisfied with that they did’nt choose an asian actor for the role since goku IS AN ALIEN not an asian. And h kinda look like goku his cheek his jaw his big eyes(except that it should have been brown), and he isnt a bad actor…

If they ever try to make a new movie i would pick Zac Efron as Trunks, this way it would be very puplar with the girls, too and they would watch the movie only for ther favourite filmstar.

Zgirl I bow down to you hit it right on the head. DB is a character oriented anime which means that the story dont have to make a lot of sense,only one other anime that iv’e seen that does that was Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and that show makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER but it still kicked ass,enough about gurren lagann.And to me Chatwin was a great Goku and to me all of the actors did a nice job but you did say Chatwin looked retarded half the time isn’t the same with Goku?If they were faithful to the show 100% we could get the worst movie of all time cause nothing makes sense theres to many retarded things in the anime that would look beyond stupid for live action I dont get why people dont understand this its easy to understand, thats was the reason I was skepical in the first place cause i thought that it would look just like the show and that would be the worst thing ive seen for a live action experience.But as i kept up with it more i began to get more interested to the point that i know that i would like DBE.

A DB/Z movie can be made but they do need to take some time.

With another live action movie for example is The Last Airbender,Its eaiser to do cause it already has an established story you could practically copy 80% of the show and put in live action when i watch the show i could see a damn good movie out of it and cant see how M.Night Shamalan could mess it up since hes a nice director and the fact that its easy to tell that show story as a movie, If he does mess it up which i highly doubt then he sucks then lol.

DB/z is just TOO cartoonish like speed racer but SR didnt have outragious retarded looking stuff like animals running cities and dinosaurs in the future.Speed Racer (which a lot of people didnt give its credit) had to go that route cause it just works and if it was realistic it wouldn’t look right.But DBE had to be a little realistic or else it would be the Magic Begins again (which was the worst minute of my life) and im sure that nobody wants that.

@t-moore So many things you said I totally agree with. And yea, in a way when Chatwin had his “retard” moments, it’s technically true to the character, but I personally found it awkward only because they had Goku doing the wrong things. In the movie he wasn’t really being introduced to new things, it was more like he knew EXACTLY what was going on the whole time, so that naive look and actions didn’t match what the character was doing. That’s just what I felt, and that problem lies with the writers NOT Chatwin.

And I couldn’t agree with you more about the difficulty of DB/Z translating into a movie. Its difficult and a sensitive subject for half the fans out there (which is kinda dumb but w/e). When I first found out there was going to be a movie I thought if this is in the hands of good writers and these people take the time to break the story down to it’s core, then this will be a kickass movie…but if this movie is being made just as the anime, not only will it suck for me, but no one outside the fanbase will want to see it.

I personally thought Speed Racer was fun because the show had that exact same feel, but with DB, you can’t capture its feel in a movie because half the fans out there prefer DBZ (not me but don’t deny you’re out there). So you’re gonna get people going in, expecting this dark super saiyan type movie, and that’s not what happened. Had they taken the time to balance out the two plots, and understand the important parts of each series, then you’d end up with a great movie, not just a DBZ adaptation. But either way, I think this could still have a chance of being a good movie franchise (IF IN THE RIGHT HANDS) because now they could try to appeal to the close minded fans by giving them their Freeza and other bull. But even so, you can’t expect a copy nd paste sort of deal.

Why hollywood!! Why! did you make a movie, that crapped on such an awesome series, no Krillin WTF!!! i meen you couldn’t even give king Piccolo antennas. DON’T CHANGE A GOOD STORY, F*** YOU HOLLYWOOD.

I disagree with this movie still having a chance. For us fans of Dbz it was a given we would go so it. We wanted to see what we love reborn into something else. I was excited but I knew I wouldn’t see it until on dvd. But I was disappointed. I felt like a poorly told memory of how someone else seen dbz. It left no great impact on me and if I never saw dbz I wouldn’t want to see a sequel. You only have one time to get it right and create a fan base. I think they screwed this one.

I cant wait to watch it on bluray. I liked the movie no matter what anybody says. I have my own reasons to hate and to love something. I can’t wait for the sequel. Hopefully they just make it atleast 2 hours long. If they do that then it will definitely be epic since they got out all of the beginning introduction crap. I honestly thought the only downfall for this movie was the length of it. If they made it atleast 2 hours i would have loved it.

Good news for cheap bastards and bad news for the DVD sales, Dragonball: Evolution is selling for $10 in Best Buy! Some Wal-Mart’s have it on sale for $15. Even though it didn’t make much of a profit, this movie DESERVES a sequel. Look at The Pink Panther and it’s *sigh* sequel, which both bombed in theaters and actually lost money, it still got a sequel and an unmentionable part 3 in the works. I’ll repeat myself and get to the point once again, movies that lose money in theaters get sequels, and movies that make a slight profit do not. THIS MOVIE DESERVES A SEQUEL, AND POSSIBLY A SLIM CHANCE AT A TRILOGY.

I’m sorry to say…. My family grew up watching Dragonball from the beginning to the end where they defeated cell and beyond. I have seen the transitions from a little lost boy to a grown man for both Goku, his friends, family and his enemies. The movie runs from the truth of what or how Dragonball really is suppose to be… How can you pick a guy who only played small parts in other films to play the main roll of Goku? No offense, good actor just starting out kind of, but this film was junk. My bf n I started collecting these movies or episodes to keep our minds at peace with our childhood. You may think because I’m a girl I might not know what I am talking about but let me tell you I do. Goku’s grandfather wasn’t alive when he met Bulma. The grandfather didn’t die because of Piccolo he died so it says in one of his earlier films that a great monster destroyed their home and trampled on him …. The monkey they created was horrible in the cartoon episodes the monkey that destroyed everything was huge, the dragon also didn’t portray that of the dragon in the cartoon.
Why couldn’t you folks make this movie seem so real and actually captivate that of the audience that really loves the cartoons? What i mean is that take a look at Street Fighter how you it turned out even for The legend of Chun-Li? That movie I didn’t expect to come out the way it did but it is a great movie and it does portray Chun-Li’s life as to what we see in the video games and in the cartoons. What about Superman, X-Men, all those fun and interesting movies? They were on the dot and they really brought out the real humanly side of the cartoon epics.

so i just read everything sorry for the late late late responses. and z girl your so freakin right. chatwin is the perfect choice. it was just the script. if we get a reboot or number 2 i really want that cast to stay. that was a great group everyone did their parts. HOWEVER i did love the fact that they kept goku and chichi’s first date as a fight. sure it was hella different but they kept that original part from the anime which was cool.

Personally, I found Goku’s and Chi-chi’s interaction was very disappointing in the movie. Although Goku’s awkward moments were really funny, I missed his ignorance on anything having to do with love and marriage from the anime. Him trying to get the girl and her being the popular girl of the school (the bully’s girlfriend???), made them look really different from what we know and love. It’s this differences that actually annoyed me because they have to do with character development, not Goku’s age when his grandpa died, or if goku is asian etc.

Chi-chi also guides him in a scene as if she is his mentor. I prefer the chichi from the anime who while really tough, cannot fully understand or appreciate Goku’s extraordinary powers.

I liked Justin as Goku as well, with a better script I believe he can be a very convincing one. I didn’t like some of his fighting, like his first air kick on the wires, he looked really stiff, there was no dynamics to convey force in his movement, he posed and moved with the same pose in the air, but that’s not the actors fault (or mostly not).

I mean hell i have the movie and i do watch it from time to time. yes yes the popular girl and goku trying to get her was really really…Ok To the EXTREME cliche and i hate that no one can be original these days and yeah i missed the ignorance that goku had in DB. i guess the main thing we can say is that the reasons we really liked the movie because of the random moments that really brought out the character. The last fight was great. it could have been so much better but i really liked how they had justin moving you know with the constant flips and what not. sure i really really wish there were more hand to hand combat and not just a light show but Holy hell seeing that Kamehameha wave on big screen and now on blu ray where they really put a hell of alot more work into how it looks was just plan beautiful. that wave looked amazing lol.

@gram18 Yea those differences from their original characters were disappointing, no question. The whole point is that Goku’s not supposed to pursue the girl, and good things just sort of come to him, and changing that did suck but for the most part I felt it had the same light hearted feeling. It wasn’t perfect but it was better than I expected. But you’re right it was certainly not as original as the original.

I saw this movie, and I couldn’t believe how wrong it was. They left out major story parts. For one Goku was the one who killed his grand father, and he was much younger with a tail. He turns into a giant ape and destroys the entire village along with his grandfather. And the begining should have included Goku arriving on earth in a capsule. Maybe even show how that happened with his father doing everything to keep his infant son alive. And Master Roshi should have been older, smaller, and with a beard and sun glasses at all times. If I could rate it 1-10, I would rate this movie a -100.

Please don’t take this the wrong way but I’ve grown tired of repeating that how\when his friggin grandpa died has nothing to do with the quality of the movie. Check the most popular comic\toon based movies and you’ll find huge discrepancies to their source material. they are highly regarded by their fans nevertheless. This is a myth, it can be told many different ways.

I disagree with almost everything you said on the quality of Dragonball’s sagas. I think the android\Cell saga is by far the best saga as far as character design, atmosphere and plot and from discussions with other fans I know I’m not the only one who believes that. I also think it was a great idea to detach the storyline from the dragonballs at some point.

To me, the Frieza Saga got really boring at the climax with half a season of staring\talking\trash talking\fighting\pause\staring\talking\trash talking\fighting\pause…
The Buu saga was awesome in the beginning but got sidetracked by too much silly comedy and some really bad random ideas (worse than the usual bad dragonball ideas) such as “lets scream so loud we’ll open a portal”, Buu’s ultimate weapon turning ppl to candy\chocolate bar, the fighting candy etc.

I dunno about this dragonball online, sounds interesting but who knows. I have never actually played a DB game before, as I hate consoles and only play games on my PC. Are there any plans to turn it into a show, or is it just gonna be an MMO game? At least I’m happy Akira chose to ignore the horrific DBGT!
